Am I doing this wrong? renting points question

I'm looking to rent points or rent a reservation (not sure of the proper wording) the last week of November. I've responded to "points for rent" threads. Two of them responded back to me, that the week I am looking for has no 1 bedrooms left in the resorts we're interested in.

I understand that DVCers can at times cancel their ressies. So, do I continue to respond to "points for rent" giving them these same dates hoping that someone has cancelled their ressie, a 1 bedroom has opened up and I might be able to get it? Is this wasting your time? Or, do I just keep watching the boards for a confirmed reservation for rent. Or, do I just keep bumping up my request for a "reservation wanted".

I really want to go about this the proper way. I don't want to make anyone mad.

Thanks for your advice.

Keep bumping your thread up, but keep your eyes open for reservations for rent for you time period. You might even make your offer more inviting , up your price you are offering. Or go with any WDW DVC resort, not just a select few.

Deb is so right about keeping your options open. So many people want BWV std view, not realizing that are very few of those and they are pretty much rented immediately by DVC/BWV owners with the 11 month window. I would just keep looking for the res to pop up, if it is a specific resort you really want, though. Some folks just can't cancel, borrowed or banked points (been there, done that), so there is always a chance.
Good luck.

Hi, neighbor!

The only thing you are doing wrong is starting too late - and how could you know that the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is so popular with DVC members? So don't feel bad about that. As you found out, there are already waitlists for at least some of the days during your time frame. That's especially true for the 3 smaller resorts - BWV, VWL & BCV. (I made my reservation for a 1 bedroom standard view at the BWV as soon as I could - in December, 2005. There were waitlists for that well before the 7 month window even opened for non-BWV owners to try to book those rooms).

Your plan (keep bumping up your request and looking for someone with a confirmed reservation who decides to rent it rather than just cancel it) is about all you can do at this point.

If you haven't already, my advice is to make a back up reservation for cash somewhere else on site so you know you have a place to stay.

If you want to talk Disney in person sometime, send me a PM - we can't be too far apart. Shoreview isn't all that big! Looks like we are going at the same time too, although we're arriving a few days earlier than you.

Best wishes -

Maybe we can make a mini DIS/DVC meet out of it! :thumbsup2
Would love to - but Diane! Lakeville is half way to Texas from Shoreview! ;):teeth: :rotfl2:

Thanks for your advice, I'll keep plugging along. I do have cash reservations so I won't be homeless.

On a personal note....Was transferred here last year for DH's job. I'm glad to know I'm not the only mouse lover around here. I feel right at home now!! :goodvibes

Hey, it's not THAT far! :rotfl2: We are used to driving everywhere anyway. If Lakeville is Texas, then Shoreview must be Canada! :teeth:

Maplewood (heading up to my parents today in Lino), and I think I still owe the three of you a drink for Disney giving DVCers the dining plan.....

magicaldisney, with waitlists already in place for most of the resorts for that time period, I don't think you'll have a lot of luck. Most owners won't tie up points on a waitlist for a renter (too much risk) - and I think the waitlist is pretty long most places (in some cases, there was a waitlist for that time period months ago). Your hope is that someone rents an existing reservation. Next time, you want to start looking about a year in advance to be sure to get what you want.
