I'm not following any diets in specific , what has worked for me so far has been watching what I eat and exercising a little bit more.
I still eat chocolate every now and then , I still drink my coffee in the mornings with sugar ( God knows I need that ) but I don't drink anywhere near as much soda as I used to.
Right now my weight is down to 198 lbs from 224 last year , I feel great, but I'm a large boned person and I'm 5'11".
I'm going to try to incorporate some atkins recipes into my menu because I like them but I will also continue to do what I have been doing all along. Is this wrong or should I stick only to one thing?

I don't think there is a right or wong thing to do! You have to do what feels right to you. And if what you are doing now is working, then keep it up!!! :) Exercise is always a good thing! Sodas offer no nutritional value, so cutting back on them up is awesome! :) Chocolate is great because it's yummy and I have read there is scientific proof that it's a mood enhancer (or something like that!) :)

I think you are doing a wonderful job!!!! You are in control, making decisions, experimenting with different recipes and ideas, learning more, feeling good about yourself, getting extra oxygen to your organs, etc. That all sounds good to me!

Gold star on your forehead today!!!! :)

((((hugs)))) and have a great weekend! xo

Losing 26 pounds in one year and keeping it off is a great success!!
I say pick a food plan that works for you over the long haul, and stick with it. Good luck!:D

I too am not following any plan in specific. I am trying to eat better and trying to increase my protrein (something that can be a challange being vegetarian). You need to do whatever works for you. And since you are not following any plan, you can add a little Atkins, a little of wieght watchers, a little of whatever you want. Do whatever works for you.

Well, Mskanga, I can only tell you this. At school, I teach the kids as many different ways to attack a problem.

Think math: counters, fingers, numberline, doubles facts, doubles + one, pictures, dots. . . .) Then I let them explore what works best for themselves. And they will use that one. If it fails them at one point, they have the skills to try another method. And sometimes combine the methods!

So....(long way to get there :p ) That is what is wonderful about this board. We're all doing our own thing. No judgements, or trying to convert others to another system. We do what works for us. And, it sounds like you have found what works for you! Adding the low-carb is something to try! I'll do that when I plateau, I think. It can't hurt and it might help. So, congratulations on your weight loss! Keep us up to date!

You can try it... you'll just want to watch just how you do it.

You can low-fat/high-carb, or you can high-fat/low-carb, but you CAN'T high-fat/high-carb... it would be TERRIBLE for your blood pressure, cholesterol, you name it.

Low-fat and low-carb is OK, you just won't get the benefits you'd get strictly low-carbing.

Whatever your decision, cutting out nutrional junk (sugar, refined flour, starches... think white...) can't be bad for you! :)

Mskanga, Congratulations on your loss and keeping it off. That is a great accomplishment.

I don't think you are doing the wrong thing. Sounds like you are doing the same thing I am doing. I am trying to eat healthier but I don't want to have to give up certain foods. (I want to be able to have a piece of cake at my brothers wedding.) I think if you are excercising and eating healthy than the weight will come off.

What you are doing must be working for you to have lost that much weight in a year. You want to be able to stick with your plan when you have reached you goal. I can't see any reason not do different diet plans together.

Keep up the great work. :D

Have a great weekend.:Pinkbounc

Mskanga, as everyone has already said, there is no right or wrong way. It is important to find something that works for you. You have lost a lot of weight! I am thinking we should be asking you for weight loss tips, and not the other way around:)!

Like all have said: if it's working for you, why would you change?

Two things common to all successful weight loss plans:
1) Burn more calories than you take in
You can choose low-carb, low-fat, Weight Watchers, or define it yourself, whatever is the easiest and fits into your lifestyle.

2) Get appropriate nutritional elements
You've got to feed your body the healthy stuff it needs, in high enough quantities to properly fuel it. If your body thinks it's starving, your metabolism will slow down.

Atkins and Weight Watchers both define how to do these things for us, but you can certainly work it out on your own or combine elements of the two programs. It sounds like you've been pretty successful so far, so I'd say you've found a nice balance that's effective for you!

I do better with a formal plan to follow. I need lots of structure.

If what you are doing is working then why change? Unless you want to lose weight a little faster. I think you're doing great :)

It's so great to see you here on WISH, my friend.
