Am I doing something wrong?

2 years ago when we went to WDW, I made everyone shirts. I used the Avery transfer paper. They all came out wonderful, but as the day went on when we were wearing them, they started craking and tearing.

We are going back in Aug. and I want to make more shirts. Am I doing something wrong? How can I avoid the transfer from tearing?

Thanks!
Stacy

Suggestions:

1: make sure you wash the shirt and dry through before you do the transfer
2: stretch the fabric (break it in) a bit before AND immediately after you apply the transfer
3: Use hottest setting on your iron but no steam and keep the pressure on and make sure to use a HARD surface. (if possible, use a wooden cutting board inside the shirt)

I still have my custom shirt from 2008 and it's holding up very nice!!!

The real problem is with the transfer paper - Avery just doesn't last. AmyMickey sells transfers on her website that are easy to use and last wash after wash. I made 8 shirts for each of my boys in January for our February trip, and they are still wearing them (today, in fact :rotfl:). They haven't cracked, peeled or faded and I have been washing them for months. :goodvibes

Here is a link to her site.

I made some shirts last Aug. and they still look like brand new. My kids wear there shirts on a regular basis.
