This is our 6th trip to WDW since 2005. We're going the week of/after MLK. We're staying offsite at a 3BR condo for the first time because we're sick of being in one room (Me, DH, DS9, DD6) and not sleeping well.

I'm usually a commando. We get there at rope drop, take an afternoon break, and know exactly where to be when for lowest lines. I subscribe to TGM and UOG.

This trip, I'm considering touring like a lazy person. We'll be there for 7 nights and I'm thinking of getting up when we get up. I really like the lack of lines in the morning, but I HATE rope drop. The crowds, the waiting for the gates to open, the mad rush to the headliners. It's almost like torture. They payoff rocks, however. I would miss the shortest lines of the day, but could lower my expectations a little, utilize fastpass for the headliners, and slow down and enjoy the little things more this trip.

Am I nuts?

No, you just healed from being commando.;) We do not do rope drop, we sleep in late, spend time at pool and get to parks around 1-2PM to stay late. We use FP and sometimes get in line for TT or MS(they are short). Yes, maybe we do not do absolutely everything but it works for us, we know what we want to do and go for it. I used to be commando like you, scheduling everything including bathroom breaks, then I needed 2-3 days to recover from vacation, now we actually relax and enjoy. Guess you will do the same.

I think I asked myself the exact same question last year. I happened to rent a condo for a trip last year and could not believe the difference!! It was so wonderful! We all had our own space and could spread out. We typically stay at the Poly, there are 5 of us so we have had to stay at the resorts that can accomadte that in one room. I NEVER NEVER thought I would stay off property but I loved it, we have our next trip booked the same week as you in a 2 BR condo. On our last trip we did find oureselves much more relaxed, and when we got back to our room we could spread out and relax, after a long day of walking and heat, it was nice to chill in a large room, rather than all crammed into one space. :goodvibes I think you will love your choice!!

I guess that's it. We're always exhausted from our vacation and we're looking for ways to enjoy it without being frazzled at the end. I guess I can always try it for a few days, and if it doesn't work, go back to commando style.

Sure go for it. Relax and enjoy and see how it feels compared to being a commando. It may even feel like a vacation. :goodvibes

We are going the same week also for 7 days. This time we have allotted a few "late mornings" and "no park" mornings where we will sleep in and not HAVE to be anywhere except our dinner reservations.
We have an alomost 3yo and an 8yo with us so we need to come back mid-day for a break. I think the combo of "commando" planners with a few relaxing mornings will wok out well for us.

I think as long as everyone is happy with what you are doing your vacation will be fantastic! :goodvibes

Cam&Phoebe's mom, that sounds like a good idea. Mix and match a few commando with a few get up whenever we want days.

The kids really love the boneyard at AK, so I guess it doesn't much matter when we get there. Otherwise the Kilimanjaro Safaris and EE can be fastpassed. We don't like Dino and we can show up early for whatever LK show we want to do.

At HS, we fastpass RnR, and we can fastpass TSM. Otherwise, the rest are pretty easy to get into, and the kids can spend a couple of happy hours at HISTK playground.

I guess we can just be happy riding the big headliners 1X instead of 2X per day at those parks and do rope drop at epcot and MK.

Thanks for the ideas.

We don't go commando and we always enjoy our trips. We get to do everything we want and enjoy our slow pace. We decided that it just is no fun to run and zig zag across the parks just to hit the shorter lines. You will be amazed at how much more you actually take in when going at a slower pace.

Trip #16- DH and I- Oct 2010. 9 slow paced days @ BCV.

No alarms, wake up whenever- lay at the pool most of the day- have some drinks- go back to the room- shower- nap and parks later on.

We are doing to DP however, only 2TS credit restaurants every other day for dinner so we are not running to ADRs every night!

Do a water park one day, one night we will do Universal's Halloween Horror Nights no MNSSHP, been there done that, a little boring.

I can't WAIT!:woohoo:

Sounds like you are Commando'd Out :lmao:
It really just needs to be what works for your family.....I find that when we "take it easy" like sleep in and eat breakfast and maybe swim then go to parks, they close too early for us to get all the things in and THAT is too disappointing for me.............Parks used to be 1am and now we are lucky to get a midnight that works into our visit....so, again, I say, that whatever works is what you should do......Our last trip was 12 nights and it was NOT enough....I did not want to come home this year.............THAT was unusual actually.....but I am so disney addicted it is insane..........its why I am on the DIS, getting my daily "fix" :rotfl2:

We are doing rope drop at AK and will do the safari first, but we like the little show at the beginning and to be honest the only "rides" we do there are Kali River Rapids and the Safari. This year my son says he will do Dinosaur but we will see! We just want to be able to leave by noon, LOL.

At DHS I think we will be splitting up so I can do Playhouse Disney and Mermaid show while me DH and son do Star Wars, the Great Movie Ride, and Lights, Camera, Action. The only thing we will probably do all together there is TSM and the playground.

The days we will be more commando are really the EPCOT and MK days. But even then we are planning a bunch of 1/2 days at both of those parks so we don't feel like we "have" to get it all in at once.

Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes
