Am I crazy - waitlist and no back-up?

We have a 2br l/o booked for AKV-Kidani June 1 - 6, 2009. Due to a change in plans we now have waitlisted for for a 2br l/o for Jun 6 - 11, 2009 (been on the waitlist since early Nov.) We have enough points to try and book somewhere else for the 6th thru the 11th. We could go with a 1-BR or even 2 studios for those dates but I just want to wait it out.

I can't help but wonder if I should I make another reservation and then just cancel if the waitlist comes thru? I guess it is just the optomist in me (or maybe the pssimist when it comes to the economy) that there are going to be lots of cancellations and that I really won't have a problem in getting my 2-BR l/o.

So I am I totally off my rocker in just sticking with my waitlist and not booking something else?

Is there availability anywhere else? Personally we always have a back up - unless your back up is staying home

Kidani is just opening in May, and I think maybe your waitlist won't come through. I am on a waitlist for a savannah view studio instead of the standard view studio in Kidani for one night in May and that's not coming through either. There were savannah view studios in Jambo when I made the Kidani reservation, so I think Kidani may be the reason that your waitlist doesn't come through. IF they open more inventory, well, that's different. I would have a back up reservation, since you have the points to use for that purpose.

Good point! I thought of that as well. I really wanted to get that AKV room because my mom will be joining us for that second half and having that balcony overlooking the savannah would just be the ultimate gift for her.

Maybe I will see what else is available for AKV (Kidani or Jambo) and go from there.

I think I am going to hold off on any decision until after the 1st of the year. I think once people get over the Holiday haze and take a look at reality, alot of WDW vacations are going to be put on hold!

I think you are very brave. Unfortunately, I am no where near that brave. With our limited experience with waitlists, I never rely on it. Most of the time, it never goes through. However, I have heard many who's waitlist has gone through after a week or so of being on it. That is amazing to me. I would get to panicky if I didn't have a back plan. I am so neurotic that way.

Unless you are prepared to not make the trip, I think you're nuts for not getting some type of back up plan.

Why wouldn't you do a back up ressie and why wait if you're going to? Your options may only decline. Your waitlist can be set up to cancel the ressie if it comes thru so you're out nothing to have a back-up. And it doesn't sound like you're waiting b/c you have to borrow points or something similar. As Dean said the only other option is to be prepared to not go.

I'm going to have to vote that yes, you are crazy to not have a backup!

I would definitely have a back up plan! We were on the waitlist for one night in Nov at BCV and it never came through. We were very disappointed, it is the first time our wait did not come through

OK - you all convinced me. I booked VWL just in case. Hopefully, AKV will still come thru but at least we will have 5 nights at the start of the trip if it doesn't.

BTW, the only thing that wasn't available for that time was AKV (Kidani & Jambo) and BCV.
