Am I crazy to plan a visit only 2 months out?

:goodvibes YAY I am excited. I have been online all day...not good lol

Mostly I have found hotel rooms to be the hardest part. POR is not even offered with dining for the dates I have put in. But that is ok :)

Thanks so much for all of the information. I think this is doable!

Now if I can get decent airfare!

I know this is a planning board but many people get way too wrapped up in it.

I decided the middle of March to take 6 of my nieces and nephews to FL the end of June. My daughter is all ready in Orlando. We are staying at our condo so I did not have to get room reservations. I also have an AP and the kids are getting tickets so we could only get FPs 30 days out.

That said, I was still able to get Cinderella's Royal table for 9 for a breakfast (10am) ADR, 50s Prime Time (for 9), just about two weeks ago I decided to add 1900 Park Fare for dinner and got that. I also have FPs for everything we wanted including Ana and Elsa (that happened because they opened up evening times) and the Mine Train (not sure how that happened but got it for all of us.

Oh and we are there the week of July 4th so I managed quite well for a last minute trip.

Not crazy at all. I have booked some with such a short lead-time we couldn't even get Magical Express tickets sent to us in time.

With the new policy on having to cancel ADRs 24 hours prior to avoid the fee, I have found that its easier to get last minute ressies. We even snagged Be Our Guest dinner for 2 last minute on our last trip (about 30 hours before the reservation).

Have fun!

Nope, nope, and yep! We've planned a July trip just 2 weeks ahead (this was a couple of years ago) and still managed to snag a reservation for Ohana. You never know who will be canceling stuff last minute and leave you an opening. I wouldn't count on that kind of stuff, but it's nice added magic!

No not crazy at all. One of the best trips I had I planned less than 4 months out. Have fun!! The trip I planned was an all girls trip. My Mom, me, my best friend and her daughter my Goddaughter. My goddaughter did not know her mom was going until she was in the car with me and her mom drove out behind us.

I booked and planned a trip in about a month this past January and it turned out wonderful! Granted it was just DH and I and was for a long weekend but I wouldn't have traded if for the world.

With going when you want to go I would be mindful of free dining and your possible lack of dining choices and resort choices, but if you are going to be with your day to celebrate and enjoy time together go for it and make wonderful memories!

We usually plan our trip about three months out, but we don't do the dining plan so that makes it easier. We tend get the hotel/room type we want ;)

Booked our trip in may 45 days out. We had fp to all the attractions we wanted to see at times we liked- and normally got four additional passes after those once we used them in park and we ate everywhere we wanted.....getting ohana and bog dinner was hard but i constantly checked the app and scored a 5:05 for it and a 4:30 bog dinner! You just have to keep checking! Overall we did everything we wanted to do and had a blast! We did go in May and crowds are better but I say go for it!

There are many of us Floridians who go on a whim for a long weekend or even a week since it's just a few hours away for us. Don't worry about it. Go and have fun. By the way congratulations to your daughter :goodvibes

I just booked my room at All Stars at the end of last week for a mid-August visit. I was able to get the current discount on the room. I'm not quite in my fastpass+ window (tomorrow I think) so I'll think about that then.

So obviously I don't think planning a trip two months out is a bad thing. I've done Disney trips, as well as cruises, around two months out. I find I can get better pricing that way.

Yep! That's what we do too!
I say go and have a great time!

That's how we always roll. No worries. I planned next week's visit 6 weeks out and that is unusually long. I've done an Easter week Disney trip planned the week before. It's always ok. More planning just leads to bigger expectations.

Roll with it.......:cool1:

We booked our early August trip 6 weeks out last year.

There was plenty of ADR availability and it was probably the best trip we ever had :) I didn't feel like there wasn't time to plan, and we got everything done and more :)

Not crazy. I booked a trip about a week, not even, before going. Just decided I was going and went for eight days. I went with no expectations and had one of the best vacations of my life.

I am the planner and I plan months out...and then DH's leave dates get changed. Repeatedly. And I end up planning a trip at less than two months out every time. It's always fun but I do spend a fair amount of time making and changing ADRs to get what we want. We have missed out on some awesome things like Ohana but we also really have fun. It is absolutely doable.

Not crazy although I probably am. I fantasize about getting up one morning and just heading to the airport. Any disney trip is a good one.

I would LOVE to do this but know I am far too cheap not to have reserved a room with a discount, and not to have stacked codes and coupons to get a cheap rental car. Of course, in the right time window, one COULD catch a room discount and use DME/bus system and not need a car… hmmm… ;)

I usually plan on very short notice. One year, we bought plane tickets on Tuesday night and were in Florida on Sunday afternoon. No, we didn't stay onsite, we stayed at a 3 bedroom vacation villa for $222 for the week (for 3 of us!) and I found a great deal on a car. Tickets from AAA, picked up at discount here in town before heading south. What more does one need? This was in the days when the only ADR you really needed to plan for was CRT (remember the 6:59:55 redial phonathon days?), so we were happy to eat most anyplace- as long as we got into Boma, which we did. It was a wonderful vacation!!

Right now, I am not enjoying my trip planning. It's too far away. We are going to Disney in October to celebrate DD's 21st birthday at the Food and Wine festival, and as we want to stay at BWV I rented DVC points back in January. SO FAR IN ADVANCE!!! It's making me crazy, all the waiting and worrying about FP+!!

Last year we booked a trip in October in early September and went with pretty low expectations. We had no ADRs (at the time, did end up getting some day-of while there), no plans really, but it was actually one of the best trips we had. Honestly the more spontaneous the trip is, and the less you expect, the more fun you'll have! Go for it.
