Am I Crazy/Stupid Or What? Disney Trip This Easter?

I can't believe I'm even considering this and, honestly, I don't know why I'm even posting here because you people here aren't the most OBJECTIVE when it comes to going to Disney. :teeth: Maybe I'm looking for someone to either talk me out of this or talk me into it? :confused3

Here's the deal. My DS's (11) spring break starts on Good Friday and goes all the way through the week of Easter. DD (14) is in public school--her break is the week before Easter but she will be in New York. Since DS is on his own, my mom (who also works) agreed to help out with the "daycare" aspect of my son's spring break. Now, my mom is not one to sit around, so she's been trying to figure out what to do for some of that week. She was thinking about visiting Philadelphia for 2-days or so but when we looked it up on the 'net it looks so, um, BORING....

I then said "why don't you two just fly down to Florida and hit Orlando?" We checked the airfare and Airtran actually has a decent price. She then said "I don't want to go all the way down there alone, deal with the airport/flight, etc. without another adult." Okay. I told her I wished I could go.

But here is the thing. My mom is taking off to help me out so I can GO TO WORK!! We aren't really accomplishing much if I go on this trip, now are we.

Also, my leave is not unlimited. I have to have a thyroid scan this summer (1 week off), plus my kids are home for the summer and I need to take a day off here and there to keep them occupied.

But....it sure would be nice to go to Disney with a smaller group. No DD (a rolling-her-eye teenage), no DH (who likes to spend too much $$$$). It would just be me, my mom, and DS who is still at that great age where everything is wonderful. I know these moments are "not to be missed."

And then, the biggie--EASTER BREAK!! :scared1: I've said more than once "I will NEVER go at Easter and NEVER go at Christmas." Never say Never, right?

So, anyone care to hash this out with me? I guess the point that is getting me is "my leave" and running out of it or going into the hole.

Well, it is going to be bad. But, since the spring breaks are staggered around the country, it won't be as bad as if everyone's spring break was at the same time. And at least it shouldn't be hot, hot, hot like in the summer.

Well, we will be there right after Easter - April 18th - 25th - and i know it will be crowded but I don't care! (well, I do, but...) We have gone in April the last couple of years and we have always had real nice weather. We are fortunate that we go twice a year so we never feel the need to see it all and do it all each trip. Hey, we go in AUGUST in the extreme heat and humidity and i don't think it's so bad! It is still Disney after all and we do need our fix..

GO! And maybe we will see you there! :wave2:

We were originally going April 12 - 18 . . .until my DH and kids had discussed going after Thanksgiving instead . . .we have never seen the Christmas decorations and DH felt that we always go in April . . .blah blah blah . . .

The weather is gorgeous in April! The crowds are another story in itself. That was most of DH's point with "do you really want to get off the monorail and look down and see a sea of people?" "do you really want to walk up to HM and POTC and every other attraction and see 120 minute or longer wait?"

We've done Easter before there and it is extremely crowded and long wait times to boot. But, on the other hand, the parks are open later and you can't beat the weather.

Have a great time if you do decide to go! :wizard:

Easter has always been my FAVORITE time to go. When the kids were little we went every Easter. I love the parades, the extended hours, the weather. I still say that it is the very best time to go to Disney and we have been in October, Thanksgiving, February, March and summer time. Easter wins hands down!!!

Hmmmm...well, Dawn, you just threw me for a loop there.

I know the crowds will be bad. We've been there so many times before, I figured that I would just "fastpass" the must do's and just kind of enjoy things. I went during Easter once before, but I was 12, and in was 1976 (or maybe before) and the only park was the Magic Kingdom. I've loved going in May--think the weather's perfect.

The only problem I'm running into now is accomodations. Dreams Unlimited found nothing for me. Disney.com came up with a few things. I can't call Shades of Green until Monday, but I'm betting they are full.

Oh well, I think I'll just see how it goes and see if my mom "pushes" it anymore.

I had friends who went one year at Easter and they said never again! I would not go myself There I said it, don't GO at Easter! :teeth:

I know...I've said it myself and to other people a few hundred times. And my boss is the one who told me "don't ever go over Christmas break." Eeergggghhhh. Why do they have to make everyone's time off at the SAME time.

I was there at Easter break last year. My suggestion is to go early and fast pass. At least you won't have to deal with a major time change  and will likely have more success at the go early part than I did. ;)

Who said you'd need a whole week off for a thyroid scan?

If someone wanted me to go at Easter... I would probably go!! I went two years ago and it was BUSY, but I would go again. Fast pass and go early. Rest midday and go extended hours..... It wasn't THAT bad!

Have a great time if you decide to go.

From past experience, I know I need a whole week off.

On Monday and Tuesday, I receive Thyrogen shots that make me feel queasy, flu-like, etc. Then on Wednesday, I have to go to the hospital and have bloodwork drawn and am given my radioactive tracer dose. On Thursday, I do nothing (and supposed I could go to work). On Friday, I scan, which takes about 2 hours. And it's all "not close" to my office.

Wow. That's a scan!
I have only had the one day kind. Inject, scan, done.
I can see why you need the week off.

If that was the only time I could go to Disney I would go. Better crowds at disney than at work.

I've been to WDW several times now over either Spring Break or Winter Break. Yes, it gets crowded, but I'd do it. I agree with going early to the parks and getting fastpasses. If you ended up not getting into one of the Disney hotels, make sure you avoid the parks with early opening.

I've been at WDW during April vacation break ( for N.E. it usually falls around Easter ), and it's crowded, but the weather is beautiful :sunny: Enjoy your trip!

We were there last Spring break and it hit right on Easter. We had a blast. The crowd was manageable. Didn't bother us. They even had a mini Easter parade. I wouldn't let that stop me. Yes, I would go again on Easter Sunday. :thumbsup2

We used to go Feb vacation but the weather here can be dicey and flights get delayed etc so we began going Easter week a few years ago. It can get crowded but because of early and late hours, fast pass and advanced planning we have been able to enjoy the parks. I also like that this period coincides with the Epcot flower festival so there are really neat displays, extra events, topiary and concerts. There is an Easter Parade at MK and we have been collecting the free Earth Day pins they give out every year. The weather is nice but not so humid as the summer but definitely warm enough to hit the pool and water parks. we are going late on Good Friday and coming home the 23rd. I decided a few years ago I could either do what my grandparents and parents did and save everything for "some day" and save things "for best or for company" or we could start living every day like you might not get another one. Life is much more fulfilling now.I would say go, enjoy the time with your family and create some wonderful memories.

Well, I guess I'm not going. There is no room at the inn!!! I waited until today so I could call Shades of Green (why they aren't open on the weekend is crazy to me). They have been booked for awhile, which is no shock. But they hardly even had any overflow. All they could offer me was 3 nights at the Yacht Club. I would love to stay there but at $332.00 per night, YIKES.

I don't even have the stomach to look off-site. Nothing against off-site, I just don't have much experience with it and don't feel like spending the day on the phone. So, I guess I don't really want to go, huh? And, the available flights have drastically changed since Saturday evening. Geez, you gotta be fast these days.
