Am I crazy? Or just Disney-crazed?

We just got back from Disneyworld on December 11 and while there I realized how much I truly miss Disneyland. Our whole family wants to go again but, of course, we can't afford it right now.

On the other hand, it's tax return season and DH and I always allow ourselves "fun money" out of it... the one time of the year we actually do stuff for ourselves. He's buying a new helmet, stuff for his motorcycle and some fancy new flashlight he wants. I'm thinking about spending mine on Disney!

My best friend moved to Arizona 2 years ago and I've seen her just once in those 2 years. She has agreed to meet me in Disneyland! We're going to share a room at the Hojo and spend some days together in the Happiest Place on Earth. I can't wait!

Now, I've never been anywhere without my family, except for a weekend away at a scrapbooking retreat (which does not, at all, compare to Disneyland). Is it still fun "alone" when you know your family is at home missing it all?

I'm also looking for ways to make this trip cheap, cheap, cheap. I'm flying down ($200 from PDX, unless I can find some good sale) and splitting a room for 3 nights ($120 for my half). Then I need to upgrade my GAD ticket to a 3-day park hopper ($132 extra). I'm not much of a breakfast eater so will just munch something in the room. She'll have her car so we can drive somewhere to eat or hit the outlet store for deals. Anything I'm missing???

Of course you're Crazy - I won't move out of Southern Cal because I would go nuts not being able to go anytime I want. Well, I would consider Paris since DLP is there....

So yes, but you're not alone.
There are some big airfare sales right now. check fast!

Sounds like it will be really fun, but I have to admit that one time when dh and I went to a hotel with a waterpark for our anniversary I felt guilty because I knew the kids would have enjoyed it so much.

Chances are you will be thinking about the family while you're there! But just think of it as a pre-planning trip for when you do take the fam again ;) Depending on what season and days you are going, you may not even need to get a 3 day hopper. DL is sooooo much smaller, you will get through the parks a lot faster. Is this a leisurely trip or a fast paced do as much as you can?

Your not crazy. My family just went to WDW in Dec and I'm going to DL without the family in March. I can't wait to do DL on my own. I used to when I was single and looking forward to it again.
As a family, We are also hoping to go back to WDW in Oct.

Disney is just such a great vacation. I would go 3 or 4 times a year if I could.

:)

Have you done your taxes yet? A lot of people are getting unpleasantly surprised this year....(including us) :scared1:

We have done ours and it wasn't so bad. Nothing too different than what we're used to.

You're not crazy. :) We went to DLParis in December and now we're going to DLR on Tuesday. :):):):) I think we're crazy, but crazy is SO much fun!!!

At least you can know you're not the only one. :goodvibes

No you are not crazy, I am. Crazy is planning a surprise trip for the kids in early Feb/11 (I'm evil, not telling them until the day that we leave!). Then 6 weeks after we return from the mouse, head back there for a 8 day solo trip without kids and hubby. If that isn't crazy I don't know what is, and I'm also seriously considering getting an AP, since it makes more sense to help defray the costs of both trips.

Actually you would be crazy to NOT get an AP since you are going for that long and that close together. :woohoo:

And I love, love, love surprise trips. We've done a couple of surprise trips and it was fun to wake our kids up and head to the airport! :thumbsup2

My Older DS is a worrier, and hates major change. Last time we told him months in advance, and he worried the entire time that something would go wrong with the trip. So I think it's going to be alot easier for him if he didn't know until the last possible moment. As far as the kids know we are going to DL in Aug/11. Will be pulling the kids out of school for 2 wks, but it shouldn't be a problem, since by then they will be in grades 1 & 2. We usually drive down for around 15 days, catching the I-5 on the way down, and meandering out way home. Last year we drove the California coast from Santa Monica to Crescent city, so this time we want to drive the Oregon/Washington coast. When I go solo will be flying down (a 3 hr flight). I could have gone anywhere for my solo trip, but when I factored in flight times, and the costs of anywhere else, it made more sense for me to head to DL.

I don't think you are crazy! Every mom deserves some fun time and keeping your friends is important. I just went to Seattle for the weekend for a concert/day spa kind of trip and I admit to thinking of the kids often but tried to keep the guilt at bay! It was fun and wonderful and you will have a fun and wonderful time in Disneyland! (Bringing them a souvenier might help too!)
