Hello...

We have a trip planned for the end of August and I am due at the begining of July, so we will have 7 or 8 week old baby with us.

We're staying at CSR and will have our almost 5ds with us as well. I'm not all that bothered about doing tonnes of stuff, will be happy to sit in the shade by the pool or wait out the rides that dh and ds go on and take in the shows.

I'll be nursing so I don't have to worry about formula.

My question is...am I nuts? Has anyone done a trip to wdw with such a small baby and how did it work? I already bought her first wdw onesie when I was at the outlet in March... :p

Thanks for your opinons!

We took DS when he was 8wks old and he was a perfect angel! He slept pretty much the whole time, nursed without a complaint and when he was awake, he just took in the view. I'm sure your new DD will enjoy the view from her stroller without too much complaint ;)

I went by myself as a "vacation" before I went back to work after DD was born with DD who was 10 weeks and DS who was 20 months. We had a great time.

My biggest concern would be getting sleep at night. Sharing a room with a newborn doesn't make for good sleep for anyone in the room! All I can remember of those early days with my girls was getting up at all hours for feedings, changes, etc.

If it were me, I wouldn't be going with an infant that young. I would wait until 5-6 mos old when they are more stable and can play a bit. But that's just me... I'm sure you'll do fine as long as you know ahead of time what to expect and take it easy. :)

Congrats on your upcoming arrival!

I went to Disney last March "05 with my DD 3 and new baby DD 8 weeks. She was wonderful. I carried her in a sling and nursed her whenever she wanted. I would recommend a nursing cape. (you probably all ready have one) I found mine at Babies R us. It has a loop and snap closure that goes around your neck and a mesh opening at the top so you can see the baby. (Well you're supposed to be able to see her in there anyway.) But because it snaps on I didn't have to worry about a blanket slipping off. I had tons of people come up to me asking me where I got it. It worked great as a a sun shield too. And kept her from sweating because it wasn't directly on her. As far as sleeping... I made my husband sleep in one bed with the 3 yr old and I slept with the baby.

We went again this past January and she was much more difficult to deal with. Wanting to get out of the carriage and walk. Or crawl really. Licking things when I wasn't looking. I would take the tiny baby stage over the squirmy toddler any day. You'll be fine. My only real concern at that age is germs. And not wanting a baby that little to get sick. So she was in the sling all the time and covered so noone could share too much with her.

Have fun. You'll be tired but you'll be at Disney. Just try to have a slower trip. And hopefully you have a nice calm peaceful baby!! Congrats.

It may be easier than when we brought our 8 month old for his first visit to the world. There are pro's and con's to everything. My thought would be sleeping through the night. However, if he's/she's not sleeping (which he/she probably won't be), you may as well be at the happiest place on earth!

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks!

The nursing cape sounds good especially for the sun. That's one thing I'm a bit worried about b/c she'll be too young for sunscreen. :)

I'm hoping I'll have strap her to my front and nurse her when she's hungry and it'll be all good.

I think I'll take youra dvice about making ds sleep with dh. We've got an Amby Baby that we'll take with us and see if she'll sleep in that. Ds slept with us until he was about 3 anyways. :)

Thanks again!

The other thing to consider is yourself. If anything untoward (God forbid) should occur during labor and delivery; you may not feel up to walking the parks. I am saying this because I had an emergent C-Section with my first a week before Christmas. Boy did it change everything. :rolleyes2

One note on sunscreen - our pedi has always told us to put some on him even under 6 months. Worst it can do is cause a little skin irritation and he said much better to have that than to have a sunburn--however you need to be really careful around their eyes. We did use it sparingly on our DS when he was under 6 months. He did get a few little skin bumps - esp. on his cheeks. I think they are changing their stance on no sunscreen for babies nowadays.

Just passing along what our Dr. told us...You might want to ask your own pedi to see what they say.

Get a solarveil sling. You can wear the babe, so she can nurse and nap and be protected from the sun at the same time. :thumbsup2

With my kids being who they are, I would definitely take an infant over an older baby since they sleep so much. However, I don't think I would take an infant to Florida in August - too hot!

We took our DD last August when she was 11 weeks old. It was a little more difficult than previous trips because we had a newborn to deal with but it wasn't that hard really. I had a solarveil sling, nursed all over WDW, and took frequent breaks in the baby care centers. Those places were fabulous! I would go in while my DH and other DD were busy in the park. We had a great time!

I would take frequent breaks and watch the heat around the baby. It's very very hot out in August in Florida.

an older baby. Go and have fun! I would have a sling and a stroller at all times, and just go slowly as needed. You'll probably have an easier time of it than me, with my just 2-year-old!

My only worry for you is sleep. Of course you have no idea now if you'll be blessed with a "good" sleeper or not, but any baby that age will have at least a few sleep issues. I just worry your other child and rest of the family will have their sleep disturbed, not to mention you. Just something to be prepared for and think through. Have fun!

I have travelled often with my children, all of them from a very young age. Our last trip to WDW my youngest was 8 weeks. (Others were 6,4 & 3) we had a blast and really had no problems, even after a 12 hr delay in the airport. I say if you are comfortable with it then do it.
Just don't expect to "do it all" and schedule afternoon naps & you won't be disappointed.

Definitely bring a baby sling, since there are some places that you can't bring a stroller. The Baby Centers are a good place to unwind and the best place to change diapers; the nursing rooms have comfy chairs. :cool1:

Where can I get the solarveil sling? that sounds like a good idea. I"ll have to check about the sunscreen. :)

We took our little girl at 4 months and our DS who just turned 4 years old that trip. It was WONDERFUL!!! I was nursing, so no formula to worry about. I did bring a bottle of powder with me to the parks every day to make an emergency bottle "JUST IN CASE", but we never needed it! I used the baby care stations in all the parks. They are GREAT! If I was too far from the center, I would go into a bathroom stall to nurse. I feel funny about doing it in public, ONLY because DD pushes my shirt ALL THE WAY UP TO MY NECK and I am uncomfortable having everyone see EVERYTHING!!!! :lmao: We had a GREAT time! Oh, and I did use a LITTLE bit of sunscreen on her arms and legs (not on her face or hands).

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!!

BTW, I SEE YOU'RE GOING WHEN THE DINING PLAN IS OFFERED FOR FREE!!! ARE YOU TAKING ADVANTAGE??? CHANGE YOUR RESSIE NOW!!!!! :Pinkbounc

We went in September and my dd was 3 weeks old, we also took ds who was 20 mos and my two dnephews who were 5 & 8, and my brother and sil and my mom and husband.
My dd was the easiest, she slept almost the entire time, of course we have been pretty lucky because she has always been a baby who wakes up once during the night at most.
It was really hot in September but other than that, it was an awesome trip and she was a great baby, I would definately do it again, princess:

:) Sounds like I'm not SO crazy... :)

I have emailed my ta to ask her to change our room-only to a MYW with dining plan. We were going to get APs but this is too good! I have to make my ADRs this week.

Beth :)
