I want to camp at the fort for aug. trip next year and we have a large family and want to stay on site but I don't want to get two rooms. In order to afford this trip with how big our family is we can't buy an rv or tt or pop up just isn't in the budget....
I have been doing research and came across somewhere where tent camping in aug. is bad...now I love tent camping and love the summer always have. but my dh thinks anything above 70 is too hot...

thanks:goodvibes

I think if you use a Portable/Small A/C you might make it ok. But it is very, very hot in Aug. and high humidity. You can rent a RV cheaper than a Cabin but more than the campsite and they set up for you. Tina on this site does this..

Visiting parks in heat and humidity and trying to sleep in heat and humidity are two totally different things, IMO. I would have to use some kind of A/C setup.

The trick for me from my PUP days was getting a good shower after the sun went down, relaxation between then and bedtime, a quickie wipe-down with a fresh damp cloth before bed and most importantly...FANS

Nice fans with tilt swivels.

While we are talking tents, for me there is only one. It is based on the pop-up canopies sold a Dick's Sporting Goods under the Quest brand. they come in 10X10 and 12X12. There is a kit they sell to convert it to a real tent. It hangs under the canopy, and is 1 ft smaller than the canopy. NOT a simple wall kit! Real screened windows with zippered covers, real tent doors and heavy duty floor, all in one piece. On sale, the canopy and tent kit could be had for about $170. Room to stand and do jumping jacks!

I saw your thread over on the Community Board and I'm glad you stopped by here. The people here LOVE to camp, and they can give you the best advice about ways to make tent camping in August work for you and your family. Fans, or a small portable AC seem to be the thing that makes it bearable. And if you haven't stayed at the Fort before, you will find that it is Disney's Hidden Gem.

We will be at WDW in two weeks, but we are staying at CBR this time....I wish we were going to the Fort.

I can tell you unless you have a/c in your tent which is possible you will be cranky and HOT!
I love camping anytime of the year but living in FL I need a/c which to me mean a place to cool down (especially when I'm sleeping).
When this question is asked about tent camping in Aug. I think back to our Hurricanes of 2004. Charley, Frances and Jeanne took our electricity everytime. Not for hrs. but for days. It was like camping in a tent. No power=cranky & hot irritated people.;)
If the heat doesn't bother you after being in the parks all day and attending to small children-then go for it.:thumbsup2
there are many posts on how to make tent camping here in Aug. bearable. I hope it works out for you!:)

thanks so much everyone - we have a 16x14 cabin tent three rooms and a closet plus another 4 man tent we are using for us, then our friend and daughter have a 4 man tent for them. our kids are not young they are all teens expect one but he will be 10 when we go and our friend's dd will be 8 when we go but she is not mine ;)...

I have been talking to dh and we are going to get an AC....:goodvibes

Don't do it. We get so hot and tired in the parks that we go to the room just to lay in the air condition. Too risky.

No, you're not crazy! :3dglasses We had tent camped in June, July and August, but the AC is a must. :flower3:

I always thought A/C in the tent was for sissies, until we spent a couple nights this summer in Georgia in a tent. We'd brought a fan, but it didn't do diddly. We just lay there and sweated. I'd have given anything for A/C at that point -- so much for me being a camping purist! :rotfl:

Go for the A/C!

Ohh and Georgia is not as hot and humid like central Florida, you're hot and sweaty 24/7 :rotfl:

We have found that a couple fans makes sleeping quite comfortable without A/C. We live two hours away from WDW and have done many nights in the summer with just tents and fans.

The real trick is the days and the sun. Either be away from the site during the middle of the day (parks, pools, shopping) or have a nice screen room to hang out in, again with some fans. DW and I are both Northern escapees and find it really isn't that bad. I will take a tent at 3pm over the middle of fantasyland for heat tolerance.

My Frank, you sure are sassy today. What kinda fruit loops did you eat this mornin? LOL

:rotfl2:
