Am I crazy for considering this?

We will be going to WDW for 3 days in May. We will be spending 1 day at Mk, 1 day at Epcot, and 1 day at DHS. It will be me, DH, DS7 and DD2 1/2.

When we go to MK I'm considering skipping going back to Pop for an afternoon break and staying at MK until after Wishes. I figure we could hit some shows, spend some time at Tom Sawyer Island and take a few hours to just hang out in the park. DD is tiny and will take a nap on my back in a baby carrier.

I just feel like since we only have 1 day at MK, I want to make the most of it and going back and forth to Pop takes a lot of time.

Would it be completely insane to not take a mid day break in our room?

We never take a mid day break in our room. My DD has been every year since she was 1 and DS every year since he was 1 as well. Nap in the stroller was how we handled it.

We don't go on vacation to take a break, lol. My DD sometimes gets tired, but there are places to relax in the park (Hall of Presidents is my family's favorite rest spot)

Only you can know if you think your DS7 will need to take a break back at the room. The earliest trip that I can remember to WDW was in 1985 and us kids were 12, 7, 5. We stayed from opening to fireworks with no breaks and we were fine. We were used to doing the same thing at our local amusement park.

I would just suggest that when you stop to eat, take your time eating and sit for a bit to relax before going on your way. I'm sure you've had days with your son where you were going practically nonstop from the time you got up until late at time. How did he do?

We tour commando so I don't think you are crazy at all. I was fortunate that both of my children would nap in a stroller. Have fun!

You can certainly consider it all you want BUT, the only way you will know for sure if it's feasible is on that day. So consider your plan, then consider the plan with a break. Consider lots of different options because you will really have to go with the flow. There are so many ways you can be disappointed so be prepared for everything. Your youngest could be fussy. Your oldest could be whiny. You could be tired. It could rain. It could be too hot. It could be too cold. Just be prepared for anything.

Not crazy at all! At age 2 on her first trip, my DD let us know loudly and in no uncertain terms for a period of approximately 3 hours as we dragged her out of MK and made her stay in the room and attempted to get her to nap, that she was genetically a commando and was not standing for this mid-afternoon break thing that we were enforcing on her. We have had 4 trips with her (she is now 5) and since that first day, we almost always stay in MK and Epcot from open to close. Stroller naps work fine for her, and at age 4, she didn't really even do that any more. DHS and AK aren't full day parks for her so we aren't there from open to close, BUT, more often than not, when she gets tired of those we either move back to MK or Epcot, or go to DTD for the evening.

It really just depends on your kids. I would plan on not taking break, and then just play it by ear. If the day isn't going well, take a break, or there are always little places your DS could take a catnap in the parks. Carousel of Progress works for me! We didn't believe DD when she said she really wasn't interested in seeing Country Bear Jamboree again since she loved it when she was 2. We found out she meant it when she slept through the whole thing! Once she woke up from her nap she was ready to go, go, go again!

If your little one will nap, I wouldn't worry about a break. When we are only going to be at the parks for 3 or 4 days, we do the same thing! You can rest at home! :rotfl: Have some Fastpasses for your DS to enjoy some big kids rides with you or your DH while your DD naps. The shops on Main Street are often a quiet and cool place to wonder around with a sleeping child!

Have fun! :goodvibes

I always nap in Country Bear Jamboree with the aid of my DH's shoulder. And I've yet to see anything except the first 2 minutes of Muppets 3D at DHS, another great place to nap! :thumbsup2

In order to share an opinion I would need some more info:

What is DD2.5's general disposition?

How does she handle a lot of stimulus?

what is her diet like? Is she a picky eater? Will she have good food options at MK? because many times hungry = crabby

What is her current nap schedule? how long has she been on it? if she is napping, how long is the average nap?

have you skipped naps for other reasons/events in the recent past (i.e. experiences more than 6 months ago are not relavant for a child that young)? how did she handle those situations?

how about your DS7? how does he handle the diet, stimulus questions?

how does your DH feel about it? Is he a relaxed type that will go with what you want? or does he want a break at the hotel?

do you own a pool? or is swimming a big deal for you? sometimes swimming is a mjor source of enjoyment and that might be more fun than a show or extra ride.

will you have a stroller for DS7?

Cosmic Rays mid afternoon is a favorite rest place as well as the others mentioned. It's usually almost empty, cool, and very large seating so nobody really notices if you're ordering or not. Although I am usually ready for coffee and a snack.

Well, we usually go for 10 days and never take a mid day break.

16 hour death march every day in August ... :lmao:

Saying we do "Commando" is an under statement.

We have to rest after we vacation.

I have never been at Disney for an entire day but i recently did it at Universal. We decided to do both Universal park's in one day, so we ended up staying until closing, 9am-9pm, it was a lot easier than i thought :)

My kids are both the kind of kids that are busy all day long. The only time they ever rest is when they're sleeping. So I think they'll be ok. It's our first day of our vacation so I think the adrenaline and excitement will kick in. Plus the last 4 days of our vacation in FL will be at the beach so plenty of time for R&R then.

In order to share an opinion I would need some more info:

What is DD2.5's general disposition? She's pretty easy going. More so than the 7yo.

How does she handle a lot of stimulus? Fine. Not worried about that at all. She was at WDW at 8 wks and 13 mos and was a trooper each time.

what is her diet like? Is she a picky eater? Will she have good food options at MK? because many times hungry = crabby Good thoughts. Eating with her is hit or miss. Sometimes she eats great, other times not so much. And she does "melt down" when she's hungry. So we'll have to be sure to pack snacks.

What is her current nap schedule? how long has she been on it? if she is napping, how long is the average nap? She naps from 12:30-2:00, sometimes as late as 3:00. She's been on this schedule for 4 months. Before she also took a morning nap. She wakes at 7am and goes to bed at 10pm (I know-that's pretty late for a kid her age but that's when I go to bed and we co-sleep).She CANNOT go a day without a nap or she's extremely crabby by 5pm. But she is use to napping in the Mei Tai on my back when we are out an about. If she's tired and I put her on my back she WILL sleep. And I can carry her for hours like that without it bothering me.

have you skipped naps for other reasons/events in the recent past (i.e. experiences more than 6 months ago are not relavant for a child that young)? how did she handle those situations? Not well. Naps are a must but like I said she has always napped on my back in the past and we are out an about.

how about your DS7? how does he handle the diet, stimulus questions? He is high strung. He goes from 0-10 in seconds. He loves WDW and has been there many times. Last time we went he was 5 and when we went back to the room for a mid-day break he'd usually swim. He napped once. He eats great.

how does your DH feel about it? Is he a relaxed type that will go with what you want? or does he want a break at the hotel? This will probably depend on the heat. If it's really hot he'll probably want a break. So I guess we should play it by ear? Only problem with that is if we decide to go back to Pop for a break we need to do it by a certain time. Because Wishes are a MUST do and I don't want to leave the park early.

do you own a pool? or is swimming a big deal for you? sometimes swimming is a mjor source of enjoyment and that might be more fun than a show or extra ride. No we don't own a pool. DS likes the water but he's terrified (to an extent) of it. He doesn't even like getting his face wet. So swimming vs rides, he'd pick rides any day.

will you have a stroller for DS7?
I have a Mac Volo that he could use. I was planning on only bringing one stroller instead of a double. I figure DD can be on my back in the carrier and DH can push DS if need be.

I think it absolutely can be done and you have a lot of great advice here. But have a "plan b" just in case someone has a melt down. Once you put it in your mind that "plan b" exists, it won't be as frustrating if it happens.

My only advice is to put this day as your first full day at WDW. They will be excited and ready to go and not too tired from all the other park days yet.

Okay, one more piece of advice....if you can afford it, plan a sit-down, table service meal (NOT a buffet, character meal) inside the park. Everyone will get to rest for about an hour. Just don't plan it around DDs nap time!

well given all you wrote...I'd say you aren't CRAZY exactly....but you may be a little on the edge here :scared1:.....which I guess is why you posted in the first place!!!!

in a way it is good you aren't pool lovers because you don't have that conflict. before we got a pool my kids thought that was trip highlight! they still love it....but it isn't as unique as it was.

having the goodsnacks and ensuring the mei tai nap...even if it means finding a quiet spot to hang for an hour and just read or people watch....like your TOm Sawyer Island time.....seem to me to be your keys to success. and anticipating how you may handle a melt down/crabby time period.

so yeah...go for it! what's the worst that can happen? sleep can always be made up.

I really enjoyed thinking about this btw. I have 5 kids but they are 8,10,12,13,16. Haven't had to think about this stuff in a couple of years....nostalgic...at first I was SO HAPPY to ditch the stroller/diaper bag/nap type stuff.....but with a little time...now I sort of miss it.... :sad1::goodvibes

Wow. I would not want to have a kid napping on my back. What if I needed to go to the bathroom or if I wanted to ride a ride? LOL I don't think I could do that.
We went for the first time last Septmeber and took DD who had recently turned 3. We had planned on going back to the hotel (part of the reason we chose deluxe was because we thought we would go back for breaks), but DD napped in the stroller just fine! We were out of our room from about 7/8 am until about 10/11 pm every day of our 5 night trip.

Eh it's pretty easy for me. With a nice carrier (I have several) it's a piece of cake. I could go to the bathroom with her on my back but not a ride. I'd put her in the stroller but she WILL NOT nap in it.

My plan is to be around Tom Sawyer Island when she's tired. That way DS can explore there while I sit in one of the rocking chairs and relax while DD naps. I'll have to move her from back to front for this but that shouldn't be too hard with DH's help.

But we'll see. Like the other posters suggested I'm going to try to plan for several different scenarios. The weather will be a big factor too. If it's super hot and humid we'll probably end up back at the room for a few hours.
