Am I crazy? Disney with a 10 month old?

No, you're not crazy! I don't believe in leaving my kids out of anything. My oldest was 18 mths on her first trip, my middle child was 14 mths on his first, and my youngest was 9 mths on her first. We even drive down from NJ on every trip and never had an issue with them. Kids are very portable if you get them used to it early on. They learn through every experience, whether it be going to the grocery store or taking a trip to disney. Of course they won't remember, but parents do. And, many of us don't remember things that happened at a young age. Personally, I don't remember much before 3rd grade, but I know I still learned through experiences I had before that! There is no "magic" age for kids to start enjoying disney.

So, go and have fun! Life is too short to not enjoy every minute with your little one!

Do it!!! You won't regret it!!

We just took our son, and he's 6 months! We are going back again in Sept when he'll be 10 months, and I can't wait!

The pictures are priceless, and although your little one won't remember, you always will!! I saw WDW in a whole new light! On every ride, I just watched his expression and didn't pay attention to the ride itself...it was amazing!!!

Those are adorable pictures of your son. He looks so happy in front of Cinderella's castle.

I'm really concerned about bringing my 16 month old ds. I'm not worried about him remembering the trip or anything like that. I'm worried that he'll scream through the park at naptime. Last weekend we were out and he would not nap in the stroller or the car. He screamed for an hour and a half until we could get him in his crib for his morning nap. It only took seconds for him to stop crying and go to sleep once he was in his bed. He takes a morning and afternoon nap so I can't stay behind in the hotel or I would miss most of the vacation. Does anyone have any tips on getting them to sleep in the stroller?

How perfectly adorable! (My littlest one is Jack, too)

Ours get younger and younger on their first trips... DS was 7. DD1 was 3. DD2 will be 14mo and would have been younger if we hadn't had to postpone. I wish we'd have been able to take DS sooner. He had fun, but at 7 he was already past really believing. :(

I don't think there is a such thing as too young unless we're talking days-old newborns. Sure they won't remember, but unless you're only going once, who cares? Kids don't remember anything from their first few years, but we do, and the whole family has fun at the time. DD9mo won't remember her first trips to the zoo or parks or fireworks or county fair this summer either, but we'll have lots of precious pictures and lots of memories to share with her as she gets older.

those pics are the cutest. that just makes our decision to go even better! i can wait to see her face and excitement. yeah!:flower3:

two my kids first trips were at 11 months old, my middle went when she was 4 months old, no you aren't crazy!

We took DD at 11 months, 16 months, and 26 months. DS went at 6 months. We're going again in December when DD will be almost 3 and DS will be 15 months. I hate, hate, HATE the argument that little ones shouldn't to because they won't remember it and it's a waste of money. I think that puts a lot of pressure on everyone to have a good time when the trip finally happens every minute...or else. Every trip with the kids has had moments of bad and crazy, but most of the moments have been wonderful and magical. I don't regret taking my kids as babies for one second. As someone else mentioned, life is uncertain. I want to live it to the fullest with my family.

we are definatelt going then, going to get the 10 day water park no expiration so we can use them over a few years.

now i just need my condo trade to come through!!

Our DD was 8 months old when we went last Fall. We also stayed on our DVC points which was wonderful. We got up, gave DD breakfast, ate ours while she played, put her down for a nap and headed to the parks when she woke up around 10:30am.

We went at her pace, rode some rides that we could take her on and went on some without her (left her with grandparents or aunt & uncle while we rode). She even came down with an ear infection the day we left and still did so well the entire week. She was amazed at the sights and sounds - she LOVED the Buzz Lightyear and Spaceship Earth rides. It was great to see Disney through her eyes! Enjoy your trip!

Could I ask a quick question? Our DS will be 8 months when we arrive in June. (Along with our 6 year old daughter who has been before).

How did you handle feeding? His primary diet is, and probably still will be milk. (Breastfed), but he does eat a bit of solids, yogurt, typical baby foods etc. Did you just carry foods with you in a small cooler etc.? Dumb question I know, but we have not really travelled with an infant, and even when our daughter was that age, we never really went anywhere other than a few quick day trips, and she primarily nursed till nearly a year, unlike our son.

Thanks for any tips!

Not a dumb question at all! Our DD was on bottles of formula and jarred baby food at the time. We used a small soft-sided lunch bag that fit nicely in a backpack - see pic of a similar bag below. We kept the water for bottles in this so that it would stay cool. We used a small ice-pack from the dollar store to keep the lunch bag cool. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to tote yogurt around in the June heat though - maybe you could save that for when you're in the room.

As for jarred food, we just kept that in the backpack, but in June, you may want to put it in a small cooler. We had a small ziploc with a jar of food, a disposable bib & a disposable spoon for each meal. We kept the spoons and washed them at night in the room. Sometimes we'd reuse the bib if it didn't get dirty. We also brought cheerios and puffies! They were great for snacks while in lines or on some of the rides if it was getting close to meal time. DD was also using a sippy for water at that time so we brought 2 with us each day (in case one got left somewhere).

Hope that helps!

Cool, and thanks. :thumbsup2 We are kind of thinking along those lines already, so it's nice to know were heading in a good direction, LOL.

I'm guessing if nothing else, it's going to be one heck of a family adventure this time around....what that we are really looking forward too!

Thanks again!

We took our boys when they were very little. DS5 first trip was 15 months. DS1 first trip was 9 months old (he's already made a 2nd trip too, when he was 13 months). Both boys did fantastic! It was A LOT easier than I anticipated. Of course with the 2nd DS we already had experience with taking a little one so that helped. Just go at their pace. Don't rush them and let them nap when they can. One of my favorite photos of our last trip my DS1 is napping in his stroller right next to Test Track. Now if you've ever been standing by Test Track's exit you'll know its NOT quiet by any stretch of the imagination. But there's DS1, napping away. I people watched while DH and DS5 rode it.

It also makes for a nice trip for me because I get more downtime too since DS1 needs it. :thumbsup2 And take advantage of the Child Swap on attractions that offer them. It worked great for my DH and I.

Both boys' first trips were full of characters as neither of our boys have ever been afraid of characters. Guess we're lucky there. They both LOVE meeting characters. DS1 especially loved meeting Handy Manny as that's his favorite.

And as far as them remembering...no, they don't remember the first trip. But DS5 remembers all the other ones we've taken. He recalls events and incidents frequently on trips that we thought he'd never remember. But he does. At least right now. He knows which restaurants he likes and which attractions he loves and which ones he doesn't. And he LOVES to go to Disney World. Keeps asking me when we are going back. I keep telling him he has to wait until next year but he doesn't like that answer.

I do keep eyeballing another October trip this year but I keep telling myself, "No. No. No. Save the money! Save the money!" Its so hard to be an adult. Especially with the great airfares the airlines are offering right now!!

All three of our kids were at Disney World and on a Disney Cruise when they were 8 months old. Expect some extra crying when they get too hot or just tired, but it wasn't a huge hurdle for us.

Enjoy it because before you know it, they'll be asking whether they are nuts for taking their 80 yr old mom!

YES!!!!!

I guess you could take him or her and use it as an excuse for a vacation!
They will NEVER remember it, wait until they get older, out of diapers, potty trained, walking, talking at least!

The wait till they are older will be worth every penny saved, the look on their faces and being able to interact with them and have them somewhat understand is AWESOME! As a rule I NEVER took my kids until they were at least 5, I have 2 grandsons that are 1 and I cant wait till they are older!!!!

If this isn't a regular trip for you, then I would say wait. But you mentioned DVC, so I'm assuming there is a chance you are members. If so, and Disney World is a yearly event like it is for us, then GO!!!
