Am I Crazy? Could this even work?

Okay--we've got our 7 nights at the BCV for Aug/Sept. For the same exact dates we have a MYW w/ free dining at All Star Sports. We are doing the dining plan (because it works for my family). If I pay for the dining plan and stay at the BCV it is $916. The package at All Star Sports is $956. The package includes the same dining plan I'd be paying for, a one-day ticket for all of my family members (3A, 1C), the discount for renting boats, arcade card, etc.

However, I absolutely cannot bring myself to stay at the All Stars for a week. We have to have the pool at BCV to make this summer vacation work for us.

Is it even possible to keep both reservations and stay at the BCV? Is it against any rules or anything? I know it would be strange to have two sets of KTTW keys...

Should I just cancel the All Star reservation, and pay for the dining?

People have reported doing this in the past - I never saw a thread where anyone had a problem doing it. I gather they just checked into the AS resort or wherever and then stayed at their DVC villa using the AS room keys to pay for meals.

It sounds odd, but no reason why you can't do this. All Disney should care about is that you pay for your reservation & treat the room & neighbors well. My bet is you'll be amongst the quietest, cleanest guests the All Stars have ever had.

Now the big question - what do you tip mousekeeping?

at Pop they even changed mydinning plan to OKW without my permission and wanted to stay with Pop, too.

so no disney nor DVC has a problem with you doing this.

Maybe its just me? But I don't get it. Isn't DCV actually cheaper? Why would you want to keep the All-Star reservation if your not using it? Is there more to the package that I don't know?

For $40 we are getting nearly $300 in park tickets (3A, 1C--one day tickets), a discount on boat rentals, a 30 minute arcade card, $15 Planet Hollywood voucher, a 5x7 Photopass Photo, and some other things that I can't remember that are part of the MYW package.

Just be aware that there have been sporatic reports that when housekeeping finds a room to be unused, it has been reported to the front desk, who then may assume an early check-out and the reservation (along with the DDP credits) cancelled.

The only thing I don't agree on is that you are not using the room, there for there is an empty room sitting there that a non DVC member that has saved and pinched pennies to be able to go during free dining and they can't because the resort is booked. Don't get me wrong I am all about saving money and getting something for next to nothing. But that's just me.

I did consider this, but there is still a ton of availability for the week we are going to be in WDW. Most schools across the country have just gone back into session, and we are leaving on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, so we aren't there during a holiday weekend. I'm suspecting that the Free Dining isn't getting as many people for late August and Early September as Disney had hoped since they've extended the booking for this into late July and the dates for Free Dining now begin on August 20th instead of the 16th.

Anyhow, this whole point is now mute since my mother has decided to join us and she was going to get a room, and I can just "give" her this one. So there you go--I am almost subletting!

OP - a betterr plan would be to send the kids to the AS with your mother and you and your wife enjoy the BC with just the 2 of you. Keep the kids names on the reservation though so they can use SAB but ship them off the to the AS when its time to turn in and give you and the wife some alone time.

I have had guests stay at my DVC resort on a whim for multiple nights and when I informed the front desk staff of this, I was told as long as I do not exceed occupancy limits (which I didnt) and only if the person was to be parking a vehicle did they need contact information, otherwise they didnt need/want the persons name or any other info.

DVC may be different as a time share then a regular hotel though so maybe that is the where this differs?

Yes, a hotel falls under different rules and laws than a timeshare. And under Disney rules, you are supposed to list everyone in the room, even for DVC...you did your part by informing the front desk, what they do with the info is then up to them. Remember, that cash resorts are different than DVC, in that they charge extra for additional adults over 18yo, AND under the rules for DDP, ALL occupants of the room need to be on the the DDP.

If she occupies the cash room, she needs to be registered.

She is listed on the reservation, there is no additional fee for her, and the DDP is free. There are 2A and 2C in total traveling (11 & 3). She will have her own room to sleep in at night, but will also be registered with us at the BCV so she can spend the days at the pool with us.

In your first post you list 3 adults and 1 child, and then later you add that Mom decided to join you. If that is the case, you'll have 4 adults, and 1 child traveling in your party. Is it you, a spouse, an 11 yo and 3yo plus Mom?

You will ALL need to be listed on the All Stars reservation, if you plan to get free dining for everyone, and the credits can not be shared by those not on the DDP reservation, or you'll need to pay out of pocket for someone's dining.

You may not use your Key to the World to redeem meals or snack for Guests who are not Disney Dining Plan.
