Am I buying too many points?

You'd be better off investing that money.
Every time I look, the after-tax ROI of renting DVC is usually comparable to (or not as attractive as) the long-term post-tax IRR for the SP500 index. This is true even for resale, and it doesn't much matter which resort.

There’s many strategies and circumstances. We chose to buy less than our current average needs, with the intention of not having our contract dictate our travel. I never want to pass up a cool trip elsewhere because we already committed to WDW. I’d love to have the time and money to do it all, but we don’t personally.

So we bought on the low side. We were visiting yearly, now we own enough points to go 2 out of every 3 years. That leaves open the option to skip a year, or still take advantage with a cash deal like Free Dining or ticket package (if they ever come back lol), or rent transferred points to get a different home resort advantage in the gap year, etc.

WDW is relatively expensive. It is awesome, we love it and still want to go. But at the same time travel abroad seems to be in our favor near term. Things fluctuate. I preferred leaving myself the most flexibility possible. If WDW decides to double ticket prices over the next 3 years, not much sweat off my nose if I don’t want to play along. We can patiently pick and choose what works best for us as time goes on.
