Am I asking too Much?

There are just simply too many visitors for them to follow up with everyone that gets ill or has an incident there - it happens way too often (more than most people think!). They would have to hire a staff of FT people that do nothing but make phonecalls and write cards to those people! I wouldn't expect them to do anything more than they did - direct you to medical options and call an ambulance.

I'm glad your insurance is going to cover part of that cost and that your daughter is okay. Hope you have a great next visit!

I think it was great that a physician came to the hotel. Normally a hotel would just call 911 or send you to an ER. I would not expect Disney to follow up with you. I'm a nurse and we don't always have enough time to follow up with patients after treatment.

I think you are asking too much. Although it would have be nice to receive a phone call, post card, email or some other type of correspondence from the staff at the BC to show they cared, I think it is unrealistic to expect that their staff or even management has an obligation to follow up with your situation. My suggestion to you is to be aware of how in life you can act the way you wish the resort had acted toward you, you know “do unto others”, the golden rule. Instead of being upset over being treated unfairly, or just wanting that extra step of kindness, you should instead reciprocate love, kindness and go the extra step for not just people you care about but for strangers and even those you really don’t like.
Sorry if this post got kind of preachy, it is in no way intended solely for the OP but for all who may read it, I just had this in my head thinking about the situation.
I pray your daughter is well now and hope your next trip to WDW will be full of more magic. :wizard: :wave2:

I am just glad that your daughter was fine. I am sure that was a scary experience for her and you. Especially since you were at the "World". But I to feel that you should not expect anything more from them at this point.

Not that you're asking too much, just expecting too much. I've worked in numerous resort hotels, you really wouldn't get a follow up response, and not that they don't care, just way too much happening on a daily basis.
I agree. As long as she is o.k., then nothing else matters.

A real professional doctor would have followed up on your daughter. I am sure he will follow up if you dont pay the bill. 250 freaking bucks? Just to tell you to go where you were going - I wouldnt pay it. That is not reasonable and customary - I would negotiate that rip off way down. 50 bucks maybe.

50 bucks? i wonder how much a tech specialist would charge for a house call to diagnose a problem. not that the two are even remotely comparable. the doc came to the hotel room. one reason why medicine is so expensive is because people are expecting these docs to sacrifice their lives and free time and then not appreciate it and try to chisel down a bill or not pay it. nice,

Why will they only pay half - as oppposed to you simply having to pay a normal co-pay? :confused3

When a Dr. came to our room our insurance paid Nada! They tell you that upfront and you must pay up front. It's considered a "service" because you have other options like the ER, Urgent Care, etc. That's if I am understanding the OP correctly when she mentioned they paid 1/2. I am assuming it was for the Dr. coming to the room portion.

I never even submitted the bill cause I knew it was for convenience. My son and I had an infection which required antibiotics and didn't feel like sitting in the ER for hours or searching for a Dr's office that was covered under our insurance.

This service of a Dr visiting your room isn't just for Disney hotels and has nothing to do with Disney.

My advice for future guests and visits...have a cab company phone number handy if your without car or call bell services depending on resort and take a cab to the Celebration ER.

The Urgent Care that transports Disney guests and CM's is a service I believe you can still find in the checking in materials resort info newsletter.

Turner's Drugs delivers to resort for prescriptions etc. also...

With my family...we always locate the closest ER whenever traveling and bring all pertinent Dr. phone numbers!! :teeth:

I am a tech specialist for one... hotels have tech specialist that dont charge a dime for a visit to your room to help with connection problems because they are *on staff*. An on staff doctor at disney is like the on staff doctor on a ship. She called saying she was going to a clinic and asked where to go. They sent a doctor that told her to go to the clinic. I pay for services rendered but 250$ for telling her to go to a clinic? And we wonder why medical insurance is so costly? I was as once charged 150$ because a doctor walked into my hospitol room - I never asked to see this person, and they did nothing for me, yet they charged my insurance. My insurance paid them. I made them refund the insurance company - took 6 months and many phone calls - but I am not accpeting of things like that. I would definately question such a charge. I am left only to wonder why this doctor couldnt do more then send her to where she was going in the first place at that price.

While on our last vacation we were staying at AKL. I had a little cold before we took off. Well flying just made the matter worse. I have a problem w/ my ears anyway and when I have a cold I get infections. Well anyway about 6 days into the vacation I took my temp. (w/ dd's ear therm.) and it was 104.9. I was freezing I couldn't get warm I tried taking a shower then bath and nothing was working. My DH called the front desk. They sent a DR. which in return sent me to the ER. All I could think about was my 78yy DGM arriving to join us on vacation in 2 days I had to go and get her at the airport. The hotel was great and arranged for a town car to go and get her. I spent a day and a half in the hospital. When I returned to our room the DR had left a message asking if I were doing OK. He left his number if I had any problems.
I think it's all in who handles your case. I know we lucked out the people who were taking care of us were definately having a Magical Day I think that has a lot to do w/ it! Not that it should!

They may actually have specific direction NOT to follow up when medical issues are involved.

There is a whole legal can of worms that can be opened involving the HIPPA laws.

Discussing medical conditions in any way without specific permission from the patient to divulge information can get one in a lot of trouble/huge fines.

I know this sounds silly, but working as a nurse (especially in psych as I do) we run in to this all of the time.

I am not allowed to tell ANYONE a patient is in our hospital without permission from the patient, even family.

We are also told NOT to follow up on patients unless there is a specific medical reason, as information about the patient should not be released to us unless we have a "need to know".

I have had the in-room Dr.'s come for us on at least 3 different trips, and been to the Celebration ER.

I have a child with special needs and their service has been top notch.

Would I expect a phone call though no, did I get a phone call, yes, from the concierge staff at the BWI. They know my son from many trips there and that's why I was not surprised they called, those CM's are great.

I am so glad your daughter is O.K. my DD had a terrible stomach virus while in Cal. at Disneyland and it was very scary.

My daughter is doing the college program in the fall (we are from jersey too) and I worry myself to death about her getting sick while being so far away, I really hope she makes some nice friends who look out for each other..... She doesnt go until August but I miss her already - Worry more.

My daughter is doing the college program right now and she loves it :)
She has made the most wonderful friends while there ~ friends that I know she will keep for life. Her group of CPs at work are extremely close ~ they all watch out for and take care of one another.
She has a little group of 5 who spend basically all their time with one another, both working and playing.

I hope your daughter has a great CP experience too. You'll have fun visiting her and her new friends :)

Thanks! I am very upset about her leaving - its not the same as her being away at college. I know this is a great thing for her - I am one of those people that have god awful nightmares... Its all anxiety about the unknown.

Are you going down with her when she checks in? (If I had to guess, I'd say you are :) ) You'll have a chance to see where she'll be living, probably meet some of her roommates, etc. The apartment complexes do have good security ~ the guards check on every car & occupants to make sure they have ID. No non-resident is allowed after 1am.
I've been to visit my daughter and met many of her friends (both CPs and some of the 'regular' CMs she works with) ~ like I said, they do all take care of one another.

Feel free to ask any questions you might be wondering about ... maybe I can answer them (or find out the answer from my daughter).
