Am I allowed to cry?

My DSis always killed my fish - she thought a pinch of fish food was not enough so fed them a whole tub:headache: We also used to have regular falling tree drama - each year mum thought we were "old enough" not to pull it over, each year down it came with another couple of casualties:rolleyes1

OT - what's the recipe for chocolate martini? I have vermouth!

ok now i'm feeling bad that i said that it was funny. it's really not. it was the way you said it that was funny to me.
so sorry!

Holly, don't feel bad!!! I was honestly trying to find humor in the situation!!! DD took it all in stride, no tears at all! In fact, she's already moved on and is asking for a guinea pig. On that note, anybody have any advice, thoughts on guinea pigs? DD had them in her kindergarten class and loved them then.

No vermouth. Over ice --2 oz vodka, 4 oz creme de cacoa, dash of half and half or milk or cream -- enough to make it look like chocolate milk. Shake it up vigorously. Drizzle the glass with chocolate syrup before you pour. It is a huge drink and I can only drink one or I'd have to be carried to bed.

YUMMM-OOOOO!!! That sounds really good....sign me up for one.

We put the tree up last light. Just the lights and we are/were? going to decorate today. Kids are going nuts over waiting for DH to get back from work. I decided to water the tree. I was very surprised at the amount of water it was taking.

Okay I am just an idiot. I was taking so much water because on the other side of the stand there ia a hole for you to put water in. All the water I was putting in was going out the hole. THe carpet in soaked! 2 bath towels and it not even slightly dry. I can't move the tree myself and of course there is still too much water in the tree stand. hey by the way, the is the first year I forgot to lay down a plastic sheet under the tree stand in case water spills. WHen DH gets home we are going to have to move the tree to attend to the wet carpet -- I can't put the tree back on the wet spot so I will either have to find a new spot for the tree or tell the kids we can't decorate today.:sad2:

We just have the worst luck with trees. One year our tree was so dead within 3 days we had to undecorate, throw it out and get a new one. We no longer buy the $24 trees. Another year before we had kids, I was in a rush and ran out the house without locking the door. DH was asleep. The door blew open. It was a really cold night. The heat turned on and the wind from the open door blew it at the tree -- one side of the 9ft tree turned brown and my gas bill was astronomical that month.

I think these are all signs that I should stop with the live trees and go artificial.

I'm sorry...that just sucks. Though I hope you can laugh about it later :)

We had a somewhat similar situation this year. We put up the tree in our new house (a 100 year old house with a couple creaky spots in the floor)...well, one of those creaky spots in just in front of the tree. We set the tree up one night, and left it undecorated for the branches to settle during the night. The next morning, our dog was downstairs, and just came flying up the stairs. We figured the blanket fell on him on the couch and scared him. A half hour later my husband went downstairs and started calling me to come quick...apparently, our dog was sniffing at the tree and stepped on the creaky board in front of the tree, which was just enough to tip the tree just a bit (which we didn't realize but wasn't centered in the stand to begin with). The tree fell over, the water ran out and soaked the carpet, and seeped through the subfloor into the basement onto the boxes down there. Now the tree is wired to the wall.

It took about 4 days for the carpet to dry.

Do you have a shop vac? They can help suck up the water (just remember to take out the dry filter and empty it first or you'll have a mucky mess).

I've heard they don't like to be alone, but you can't have two males together because they fight, like those beta fish. You don't want one of each, because then, well, you know, you have to find homes for all the little ones.
Maybe they just need to see each other?
They are nocturnal. They talk and are most active at night. So don't keep them in a bedroom.

Really? The pet store said they were awake and active during the day unlike hamsters. Darn, that was one of the selling points for me.

Wikipia says they don't have a preferred cycle and are active/resting at all times. So don't worry about the sleeping thing. And Wikipia says you can have more than one male if the cage is big enough and they are introduced at an early age. Shows how much misinformation can be spread. The person who gave me the wrong information raises them for 4-H.:confused3 Maybe I just don't want any of her piggies.

I actually do not have a table top I could put a tree on. I have slowly been throwing out my very old livingroom furniture, and just not replacing it. That is my plan until the kids are big enough to stop jumping, climbing, flopping, putting sticky hands, germy hands, dirty feet and every other gross thing that kids do on or to the furniture.

By the time that happens, you 'll have grandkids!!!:rotfl2:

If you have a shop vac, it is perfect for sucking up water. They make small ones now, I think.
