We put the tree up last light. Just the lights and we are/were? going to decorate today. Kids are going nuts over waiting for DH to get back from work. I decided to water the tree. I was very surprised at the amount of water it was taking.
Okay I am just an idiot. I was taking so much water because on the other side of the stand there ia a hole for you to put water in. All the water I was putting in was going out the hole. THe carpet in soaked! 2 bath towels and it not even slightly dry. I can't move the tree myself and of course there is still too much water in the tree stand. hey by the way, the is the first year I forgot to lay down a plastic sheet under the tree stand in case water spills. WHen DH gets home we are going to have to move the tree to attend to the wet carpet -- I can't put the tree back on the wet spot so I will either have to find a new spot for the tree or tell the kids we can't decorate today.
We just have the worst luck with trees. One year our tree was so dead within 3 days we had to undecorate, throw it out and get a new one. We no longer buy the $24 trees. Another year before we had kids, I was in a rush and ran out the house without locking the door. DH was asleep. The door blew open. It was a really cold night. The heat turned on and the wind from the open door blew it at the tree -- one side of the 9ft tree turned brown and my gas bill was astronomical that month.
I think these are all signs that I should stop with the live trees and go artificial.
