GO 4 replies down and I tried to analyze Regular Gas & Pump Nozzles.

I have been thinking about this for a month.

'I try my best to respect the environment. Find it, use it, but leave it the way you found it'.

Over 30 days ago, we stopped at the top of IA and just short of MN, at a rest stop. "HOLY COW" ! ! ! that trucker is carrying an Atlas missle. Actually I don't know one missle from another. The trucker came by and I asked, "what's that thing' ??? Close to 100 ft long, it was the base for a Wind Turbine to generate power.

I said to the trucker, coming up from RT 80 they are all over the place, but less than 1/2 are turning. They seemed lined up good enough to catch the wind. What am I missing ???????

The following is only one persons opinion. He told me they have a storage problem, they work but they lack the technology to store what is generated, so they shut them down. This causes problems when shut down ; the seals harden, the lubricant and hydraulics leak and it may need a motor replacement, plus you got a great big mess to clean up.

Again this was one persons opinion, but have we in haste put the cart before the horse one more time ?????????

i believe that. we have a lot of them in wisconsin and many times they aren't turning. when the presses at work haven't ran in a while i always have to call maintenance out to repair stuff before i can get the press up and running.

pretty sad we can't bottle that energy. ;)

At the beginning of this thread, I talked about a truckers opinion on Wind Turbines.

In IA & MN there were zillions, well maybe have a zillion. The trucker said 'they have a storage problem for what is generated. That is why they were not all spinning / turning (+ or - 50 to 60%), whatever.

Between Laramie WY and Cheyenne WY, we saw groups of about 25. 80+ % were spinning.

Is this an example of 'storage is not problematic'. I am not an engineer, I have a lowly BS in Accounting, but I analyze toooooooooooo much.
My DW "I analyze analyzing".

Maybe----STOP john----you will be hitting the couch and be analyzed by Doctor Strangeglove.

This confused ICON is definetly me.

Going through Ellsworth Kansas, the Turbines were really turning. In this case maybe they don't have a storage problem. Now onto the next thing to analyze ! ! !

Octane (grade) of gas. In PA regular is 87. In Wyoming, Colorado, Utah amd Idaho there is an 85.

85 ????? must be for lawnmowers. I kept using 87. At one gas station a tanker truck and driver were filling up the underground tanks.

I asked the driver, what do you use 85 in. "You can use it in your truck, it is regular gas" Hold on. If 85 is regular and 87 is regular, what's the difference. I believe (but not sure)he said the amount of ethanol. :confused3:confused3

Also, in PA on the pump handles we have these rubber 'whatevers' on the nozzle. Out in the Mountain States hey just have a nozzle. Plain & simple, but our rubber covered 'whatevers' keep the, the , the---A guess, keeps the air clean.

I now have analyzed: 85 vs 87 and no rubber 'whatever' nozzle and in PA, our rubber 'whatever' nozzle. CONCLUSION: State A is allowed to 'Dirty', but State B is not allowed to 'Dirty'. Now I am stuck. I ask WHY ??????????

Maybe I do not have both oars in the water, but somebody set me straight. I am john :confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3
