There's been a bit of talk about pricing on this board recently. So for interest, just went on to Alton Towers website to cost up a holiday at the same time we're going to DLP.

For 4 nights B&B at the Alton Towers Hotel with Theme and water park entry its a hundred quid more expensive than staying at the Disneyland Hotel. I've only seen Alton Towers Hotel from the outside but it doesn't look in the same league as DLH.

Also, not been to DLP yet, but living only 20 mins from Alton Towers we know how much better WDW is in terms of quality, cleanliness etc. - so our DLP break is seeming very good value.

Unbelievable, isn't it?!! :earseek:

I was just talking about this last night. It's definitely cheaper to go to DLP than Alton Towers, though I didn't realise that you could stay at the Disneyland Hotel for less than the ones at AT!!! :faint:

Granted, Alton Towers does have some good rides, but it's the wonderful, detailed theming at DLP (indeed any Disney park ) that makes them stand out for me. :tink:

Erm yes I somehow choose Disneyland Resort Paris, after having spending what seemed like half my life last year queueing for Nemesis and Air at Alton Towers (I'm a coaster enthusiast ;) ), I think I'll choose DLRP. Also I've stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel, fun, though I think the theme is not consistant throughout the hotel and also the water park to me is the only which has the advantage over DLRP. I am however thinking of trying out the Alton Towers Hotel this year since I've heard it's nice, but also some people saying it's just meh average. Also one thing wrong with Alton Towers, the ride ops can be really annoying sometimes and always look so down and like they don't want to be there, and would it kill them to clean up some of their themeing in areas once in a while. So yes Disneyland Resort Paris much more worth it and you get value for money.

Air is fun and the river rapids.

But the whole place has a lot less atmosphere. I'm sure some of the kids were swigging vokda in coke bottles etc.

I think I would actualy be bored for 4 days there, where I have previously spent 5 days in disney.

2 days would be my limit in Alton Towers.

I had a wonderful one night break in the Alton Towers Hotel. It's a very nice hotel, not quite up to Disney standards, but has a lot of nice touches, a very nice restaurant, and the water park's fantastic.

I don't think it's more than a 2 night trip, but it's a lovely place to go to for a quick break!

We visit Alton Towers every year, just for the day with friends & they just don't get our Disney Obsession!

Love the rides at Alton Towers but thats it & like Chrismoo we spent 5 days last June at DLP but couldn't imagine managing more than 2 days at Alton Towers!

Saying all the above haven't ever stayed at AT the cost has always put us off.

I priced up a two night stay in Sept but it was ridiculous how much more expensive it was over DLRP, DLRP obviously won out! Superior parks & better price!

Im a huge Alton Towers enthusiaist. And yes Alton Towers and Splash Landings hotel is highly overpriced...but its in the middle of no-where so the hotels have no competition!

We loved Alton Towers hotel. We had a two night stay there
it was great. We also love DLP, we are staying at the disneyland hotel this April it will be our forth visit to DLP, we have also been to WDW a few times. WDW in my opinion the best, DLP second and Alton towers a poor third.

What I am trying to say is that you can have a great time at any of these places and unless you can only choose one, enjoy them all.

I think Alton Towers is great but its been a while since Ive been there - almost 9 years,Ive been to DLRP 5 times since & DLRP is tops for me.Alton Towers has great rides - Nemesis,Air,Oblivion,Log Flume,Water Park & the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory Ride coming soon,The Alton Towers Hotel is indeed very nice & I think the theming is quite good. They have themed rooms in the hotels also.

However as good & all as Alton Towers is I think DLRP will always be my favourite, the attractions are better themed & have more depth, the parks are beautifully decorated & tidier, there are more entertainment options/parades in DLRP,I also think the Hotels in DLRP are fantastic - especially Newport Bay Club & Disneyland Hotel. And that magical Disney feeling is hard to beat.Yes DLRP for me. :smooth: :smooth:

I think Alton Towers is a fun place for a day trip, every once in a while. And I remember the hotel room we stayed in for one night, quite a few years ago, was very nice. But if I was to start thinking about staying there now, the money it would cost me would go on an DLP trip everytime. :smickey:

The last time I went to Alton Towers was back in 1988 BC (before children)!!! Don't think I would recognise the place now! :lmao: Its too far for us to do in a day, otherwise we would go because I did like it there but by the time we have priced an overnight stay, we always decide against it and put the money towards a Disney trip instead.

Went to Alton Towers for the first time last year, funny enough Elaine, since 1988 and yes didn't recognise a thing. You can dodge the queues a bit by buying tickets a bit like a fast pass.
Never stayed in the hotels because of price but got to agree that the park needs some TLC in places but have some fantastic rides, think I read something on the rumours board that it made top 10 theme parks in the world!
AT or DLP....hmmmm I wonder :rolleyes1

i always *thought* a trip to DLRP was cheaper... and better!.... but i actually just looked into it... now, we were kinda planning for four of us to go away to DLRP for my birthday (which, blah, is 25th july, 1st week of the school summer holidays... argh!) so... classic 2/3 in Santa Fe is £530 for 4 ppl.... and alton towers goes from £735, (and that's only inc. water park tickets, not theme park tickets.. with them it's like closer to £1000!)..... now, santa fe *IS* a cheaper hotel... but, duh, it's disney so who cares! i know where i'd rather be...

plus... yeah, Alton Towers is closer... but i don't drive, and jet2 fly from Leeds/Bradford (which is so close... i can see it, and i work on the southside of the site anyways... 13mins on the bus!) to CDG for like £50... so yeah....
