alternative to ponchos?

Just remember - it will be a gajillion degrees out - so whatever you choose to keep you dry, keep it super lightweight. We used what we thought would be a lightweight pullover rain coat in May and we felt like we were being steamed.

This^^

I would stick with the poncho if going in the summer.

just found a bunch of dollar store ponchos from trips past but think I might invest in the Disney ones. I don't have waterproof sandals, planned on wearing sneakers. Maybe I should get sandals, I just really like good sneakers when there's a lot of walking.

What annoys me is people who say don't use a poncho. It won't rain long and you'll be dry before you know it. Oh yeah - the rain is warm and it'll be lovely.

Really?

Clearly these people have never done Florida in February! We've done it the last 4 years. The last couple of years it's actually been cold and when it rains, boy it's freezing rain!

I've got a Disney one, OH has a Universal one (bought for the Jurassic Park ride), and DD had a red Walgreens one. Both our ponchos got damaged this year and Disney kindly gave us two new ones so now all three of us have good quality ponchos.

I just wish you could get something with sealed sides and sleeves!

I use an umbrella. They both have there pros and cons. People with ponchos can be just as rude as umbrella users.

If it starts to rain, you could race for the closest shelter. That's what we've done even with sandals. It can rain hard! Of course, that didn't help when it started pouring as we got out of the car in the Epcot parking lot...by the time we reached the front gates it had nearly stopped raining, but boy did we get wet getting from the car to the gates!

I tend to bring a backpack with things I need, including sandals and poncho, when I think I might need them.

The ponchos do cover more, but a few years ago I invested in an Adidas pull over water-resistant jacket that I love. I bought it in one size bigger so that my cross body bag fits comfortably underneath it and its a bit longer covering most of my shorts. The jacket has a very good sized kangaroo sized pocket on the front that I would keep my KTTW card & phone in during the rain, and now the pocket is only for my phone since the introduction of MB's.

The jacket folds up nicely to go in my bag and its durable enough that I've been able to use it for multiple trips, including the one I've got coming up in October.

Terrific idea! If only I'd run into something like that. :)
