Alternate things for autographs?

My dd is going to do a pillowcase and I am going to have an apron signed. I bought small embroidery hoops so we can move the signatures around and have them placed where we would like them to go. For our next trip in 2016 I am going to prepare 4x4 white or cream quilt squares and have the characters sign those. I plan on having my aunt make a quilt for my daughter with signatures squares and squares from some old Disney T-shirts that no longer fit her. We may even throw in a few squares with pictures imprinted on them too. You could do lots of things like MataHari22 did with the mug on shutterfly. They have have pillows and blankets you can customize too.

I think the Art Canvas is a great idea. You can get them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby cheap and they come in white, black of denim. You could always add pins to the canvas around the signatures to finish it off.Sounds pretty cute!
Fun idea! To expand, Sharpie makes gold and silver metallic pens. They may look really good on the dark denim. I had a black paper book on one trip and we used the silver Sharpie. Looks great.

That is a pretty genius idea!

I think we got our last big Vinylmation at the Pin store at DTD. We try to keep it in the box as much as possible, and a ziplock bag, inside my giant bagallini purse. We used just black sharpie on the first one, and all different colors on the second. The characters like signing it- Stitch signed on the booty, Gaston wanted to be on top so he signed the top of Mickey's head, and Ariel said she wanted to be the first thing Mickey saw so she signed over his eyes. We like them a lot.

We have done:
Picture Mat to put in a frame, pillowcase in a sewing hoop to keep the fabric tight, my son got one of the large Mickey Vinylmations that was all white and had them sign that, my daughter had her graduation cap signed since she decorated it with a theme from UP, and pictures we had drawn of that particular character from the old animation classes at Studios.
I also made a hardcover book on Shutterfly. Each page was dedicated to all the pictures we had over the years with that character and a square spot for them to sign.
The characters had so much fun with us looking through it as they would sign.
I have seen people getting canvas bags signed, hats, t shirts and the autograph stuffed animals you find at party stores.

Yep, no autographs with shirt on. Had to buy another shirt and have her change on her 7th birthday (9 years ago). Then, she left the shirt with all the princesses autographs in the AAA story time. She had tucked it and her hat and some other things in the tube they had given us with the lithograph from CRT and left the whole thing behind. When we realized, the park was closing so I stayed behind to deal with lost and found and wait around. Husband took the kids to the resort. Low and behold, by the magical pixie dust that only Disney has, her stuff was waiting in our room when she got there along with a AAA duffle bag, a birthday card, and a stuffed animal. AAA rocks!! I am sure it would have been lost in the bowels of Disney forever if they had just sent it to lost and found. That shirt was her prized possession for years. I had to sharpie over the autographs several times since they kept wearing off in the wash.
Off topic... But what is AAA story time??

She's talking about something that was 9 years ago. Disney and AAA used to have an agreement and offer special things. They severed their contract at the end of 2014. So no more AAA specials like parking, though most have been gone for way longer than that.

Slightly off topic but I'm thinking of buying a 16x20 autograph mat that holds an 8x10 picture. On our first night we are going to Epcot for the afternoon/evening. We have a dinner at Akershus and I was thinking of taking that autograph mat there and getting it signed and then putting one of the pics from there in it. But I don't really want to carry that around the parks before dinner. So I was thinking of renting a locker and then just getting it out before dinner. Does that sound like an okay plan? Where are the Epcot lockers located and how much do they cost?

Not sure about the cost but to make that feasible you would want to rent a locker on the international gateway entrance. At least I'm fairly certain I have seen them there. It is a long walk from the main entrance to Norway

Do you think the 16x20 frame would fit in the locker? I'm not sure how big they are

Burlap is too bumpy. What about a cheap art canvas? That would be easy to sign, and you could just hang it up?

This is what we did last year. I got a 12x12 Canvas and painted a Mickey head on it. Then had the characters sign on the inside. We had a double stroker, so it was easy to carry. Our next trip, we are taking 8x8 canvases and I am going to do a Cinderella silhouette, a Minnie Mouse, and Mickey.

We have done baseball caps, vinylmations, index cards and the Disney Jr Encyclopedia.

That's so cute!

Just remembered something I saw used for autographs recently. White canvas shoes. May could even use a solid color like yellow or red too

I am afraid I don't know. I have never used one.

We've had them sign the back of a sweatshirt (WDW with the year on the front) then I embroidered over the signatures so they wouldn't ever wash away.

I'm planning on buying a new pair of mickey classic ears and bringing metallic sharpies the silver ones that write on metal and have characters sign the hat!

That's great! :)

Do characters still sign the 9" vinylmation? I had read somewhere that they stopped a year or so ago. We are leaving for WDW in a couple of weeks, and while the kids would much rather these than another autograph book, I'm leery of buying only to have the characters reject them like the Soup Nazi. What a disney memory that would be for a little kid. Although I realize some don't sign any autographs and will prepare them for that.

I'd like to know too if characters still sign these. Seems like such a great idea! We have autograph books just sitting around that the kids have no interest in- I'd love to have something to display. But, are these even still sold? I can't find them online beside ebay and the price is ridiculous!

Yes they are still sold
ETA - checked and they are sold right from the park's shopping app
No idea if a characters will sign them but why wouldn't they? What did the post that reported that say as why they refused?
I've never seen them refuse to sign anything that wasn't being worn. What about a Vinylmation would be different than say a shoe or a hat? Or even a stuffed autograph dog
