Altered Paint Can Swap - Progress Thread Deadline 10/31

I like the idea of getting ornaments in the cans I'll be getting. I don't have a problem with a can decorated with fabric instead of paper. Would ModPodge hold fabric on too? As opposed to knotting all that fabric.
I was going to just get some post-it notes and try to make a "file folder" type cover for them. But if the album isn't too hard, I'm okay with spending time.

It looks like I'm making 5, since that's how many cans the local Home Depot had in stock. It feels like a reasonable number to make. As for 20 minutes to make one, I don't know about that. But then, I know that I'm a very slow scrapper. Just takes me more time to get everything the way I like it.

Could you put little Christmas ornaments in for the Christmas ones???
I've got many ideas going through my head for gifts this year... I figured I'd try them out first before I swap anything! I'm such a chicken! :0

I made cookies for a cookie swap for the family and altered oatmeal containers. I covered them with heavy wrapping paper from Target. They turned out really cute!
I like the ornament idea. I have tons of cross stitched ornaments. HMMM I need to find some Disney holiday cross stitch ornaments.

You're not a chicken! :rotfl2:

I learned how to make the albums at the convention in Valley Forge last year. Essentially, (that is totally spelled wrong, isn't it?), youtake a number of paint chip card things from Lowe's (since that is where I got my cans) and adhere them back to back to make pages. Then bind them together! Instant album for pictures or phone numbers or whatever. They are neat because of the stripes of color. I picked ones that are in the shades that Ariel would have and they match the outside.

I'm having a rough day. Did that make sense?

That sounds cool!

That paint chip book does sound really cool. Maybe I should wait until after Valley Forge next weekend to see if I can learn something new and cool that would work.

I was going to try to use Bazzill Accordian Cardstock and make a mini book with that. I ordered a few in princess-ey colors the other day, so when I get them I'll see if they'll work.

What do you guys think of altered book books. You know like the ones for toddlers? I was thinking of a small picture book or autograph book for that particular character. Oriental trading had them, of course it's just my luck, I can't find them but I will keep looking.

Do you mean board books? Will they fit in the can? I have to cut my paint chip down quite a bit to fit. If they fit, I love that idea!

I can't believe we're going to have to wait intil NOVEMBER to see these!! Torture!

Yes I meant board books, see what happens when you stay up past your bed time 5 days in a row!!! :rotfl2: I'm not sure if the 3x3 will fit so I'm taking one of the kids books to HD today.

Here are some other ideas I came up with, feel free to lift them:
tag book
picture frame
mini composition books(thanks Sharon)
primas in baby food jars
xmas- ornaments (Thanks Nancy)
accordion albums (Oriental trading)
bookmark
file folder album

Any other ideas???

Hi everybody,
I just got back from a 24-hour wihrilwind trip form Philly to Maine...and back...to get my DD from camp. I love all of your goodie ideas! They all sound wonderful!

Welcome back. Phew. How was it? We went to Maine at the end of June to see my sister. She lives in Portland. Where were you and your DD? :confused3

Well the 3x3 board book is a wash. They are about 1/4 inch to wide. Darn!
But I thought of some new ideas,
a slide mount accordion book and a slash pocket swap calendar, oh and an altered envelope book. I wonder if the small envelopes will fit. I clean out my Lowes today of cans, they only had 5. So I'm off to HD later this week....

Watch out for HD!! When I went on Friday, I asked a gentleman who WORKS in the PAINT section where I could find the emmpty pain cans for sale and he replied they don't sell those, would I be interested in a bucket? I said no thanks and kept walking. 5 feet away from where the sales clerk was standing, BAM! A TON of empty paint cans!!! I bought 9, 1. because they came 9 in a box, LOL and 2. I'm HOPING to be able to do all 9. We shall see! My quart cans don't have handles tho, is this ok?! Only the gallon sized did. Please advise!!!

Mine don't have handles either. I guess because a quart is easier to carry than a heavy gallon.

Wow! He must have been a fool! You should have walked back up to him...and asked him what these cans are called! :confused3
I sent DH to check prices around here for me.. I'm going to challenge myself to do these as Christmas presents... I'm too chicken to do the swap until I guinea pig my kids on this first!

Try Michael's $1 section for lots of stuffer ideas. I was there yesterday and got some matchbook notepads to alter, some journals, notecards, etc.

I had to pick up DD in Portsmouth, NH after an oceanography camp. Some great shopping in Kittery, ME and a rubber stamp/scrapbooking store there. :thumbsup2 I also managed to snag a Cricut with a 40% off coupon at Michael's. WoohooooO!
