Hello All. This is our 5th DCL cruise. I see Judy is also on this cruise and sharing her experiences, so I'll try not to duplicate. Last night we could have used a light jacket, and it was breezy on deck today, but I was in shorts and a t-shirt all day and never got really cold. Plus, it should only get warmer. We arrived around 10:30am this morning and were handed a Group 4 boarding pass, so we got to sit around till a bit after 1pm. When we checked in the CC line was longer than the regular line and had less agents working...somewhat annoying. But, I'm on vacation so no biggie. As I mentioned in a prior post, we got an upgrade from a cat10 to a cat7, and did a happy dance when the clerk confirmed it. I had signed DD up online for Oceaneer's, but we still had to queue up to get a beeper, not that we're likely to use it (she's 12 now). Anyway, the pre-registered line was longer than the regular line, also a tad annoying, although I noticed that changed as the morning went on. I will say that the cruise terminal buidling is quite nice...not Canaveral, but also not the New Orleans dump I sailed out of last Thanksgiving. We boarded and got our Palo reservation because none were available online before I left. No problems, got the date and time we wanted. Then we ate at Topsiders, which was decidedly uncrowded because, as Judy says, they were steering folks to Parrots. We did the lifeboat drill, unpacked and danced a bit at the deck party. Always fun. Let me say that LA has one ugly port. Lots of cargo containers and boom crains. We did see a few palm-tree lined housing sections on the way out. Also, some dolphins in the port, and some seals on channel buoys on the way out. And, DW and I watched the pilot ship come alongside and take off the channel pilots; something we'd never seen before...pretty cool. The show tonight was a variety show, a bit of dancing, a comedian magician (quite funny), and a singing comedian (only moderate funny). Not the best show I'ver ever seen, but not bad and I know they'll get better. Golden Mickeys is tomorrow! We had dinner at Lumiere's (Judy we're at table 19, come say hi) and for our first time ever had the late sitting. We all agreed we enjoyed being less in a hurry to get to dinner. After dinner we watched Match Your Mate and now I'm typing this for you good folks. So, if you've got any questions, I'll try and be your answer man.
All you can eat internet is $90 for the week. There seemed to be 2 drinks of the day: the old faithful Bon Voyage (yummy) and Bahama Mamas.
Movies this week are: Around the World in 80 days, Ice Princess, Incredibles, National Treasure, A Lot Like Love, Pirates of the Carrib, Taxi, Princess Diaries II, Nemo, Pacifier, Pooh's Heffalump Movie, and Hitchhiker's guide. I think the latter is playing in the Disney Theater later this week, although you couldn't pay me to watch it again. (me, opionated?...naaaa).
We cruised the shops just briefly and I saw a few 50th anniversary items - a nice jacket, a few shirts, etc. They had a nice DCL Mexican Riviera shirt that I'll pick up tomorrow.
The CC gift is a maroon blanket with 2005 DCL on it. We like it. Our cabin steward is Maricar, and she's particularly outgoing; we like her alot already.
Brought a case of diet coke on board in our luggage, no problems or questions. DD spent some time e-mailing friends and in Oceaneer's tonight.
What can I say, it's like being home, we love it here. Got to set the clocks forward 1 hour tonight, the first of several time changes I'm told. I'm going to take a stroll on deck 4 and go to bed.
