Hello All. This is our 5th DCL cruise. I see Judy is also on this cruise and sharing her experiences, so I'll try not to duplicate. Last night we could have used a light jacket, and it was breezy on deck today, but I was in shorts and a t-shirt all day and never got really cold. Plus, it should only get warmer. We arrived around 10:30am this morning and were handed a Group 4 boarding pass, so we got to sit around till a bit after 1pm. When we checked in the CC line was longer than the regular line and had less agents working...somewhat annoying. But, I'm on vacation so no biggie. As I mentioned in a prior post, we got an upgrade from a cat10 to a cat7, and did a happy dance when the clerk confirmed it. I had signed DD up online for Oceaneer's, but we still had to queue up to get a beeper, not that we're likely to use it (she's 12 now). Anyway, the pre-registered line was longer than the regular line, also a tad annoying, although I noticed that changed as the morning went on. I will say that the cruise terminal buidling is quite nice...not Canaveral, but also not the New Orleans dump I sailed out of last Thanksgiving. We boarded and got our Palo reservation because none were available online before I left. No problems, got the date and time we wanted. Then we ate at Topsiders, which was decidedly uncrowded because, as Judy says, they were steering folks to Parrots. We did the lifeboat drill, unpacked and danced a bit at the deck party. Always fun. Let me say that LA has one ugly port. Lots of cargo containers and boom crains. We did see a few palm-tree lined housing sections on the way out. Also, some dolphins in the port, and some seals on channel buoys on the way out. And, DW and I watched the pilot ship come alongside and take off the channel pilots; something we'd never seen before...pretty cool. The show tonight was a variety show, a bit of dancing, a comedian magician (quite funny), and a singing comedian (only moderate funny). Not the best show I'ver ever seen, but not bad and I know they'll get better. Golden Mickeys is tomorrow! We had dinner at Lumiere's (Judy we're at table 19, come say hi) and for our first time ever had the late sitting. We all agreed we enjoyed being less in a hurry to get to dinner. After dinner we watched Match Your Mate and now I'm typing this for you good folks. So, if you've got any questions, I'll try and be your answer man.

All you can eat internet is $90 for the week. There seemed to be 2 drinks of the day: the old faithful Bon Voyage (yummy) and Bahama Mamas.

Movies this week are: Around the World in 80 days, Ice Princess, Incredibles, National Treasure, A Lot Like Love, Pirates of the Carrib, Taxi, Princess Diaries II, Nemo, Pacifier, Pooh's Heffalump Movie, and Hitchhiker's guide. I think the latter is playing in the Disney Theater later this week, although you couldn't pay me to watch it again. (me, opionated?...naaaa).

We cruised the shops just briefly and I saw a few 50th anniversary items - a nice jacket, a few shirts, etc. They had a nice DCL Mexican Riviera shirt that I'll pick up tomorrow.

The CC gift is a maroon blanket with 2005 DCL on it. We like it. Our cabin steward is Maricar, and she's particularly outgoing; we like her alot already.

Brought a case of diet coke on board in our luggage, no problems or questions. DD spent some time e-mailing friends and in Oceaneer's tonight.

What can I say, it's like being home, we love it here. Got to set the clocks forward 1 hour tonight, the first of several time changes I'm told. I'm going to take a stroll on deck 4 and go to bed.

Thanks for the post! I definitely don't want to sit in the terminal and wait to board. What time do you recommend folks arrive at the port?

I'd be interested to know if you tried to book a second night at Palo on board and if you were successful.

What is in this? Big Fan of the umbrella drink here! :umbrella:

I agree, I want the 2 hours of my life back that I wasted watching "Hitchhikers Guide..."

I thought it was dreadful....

thanks for posting and if you let us know what is happen a little each day that will be great. I know the port is nothing to get excited about but the -party disney puts on is like no other. When I leave out of LA I don't even to up on deck on most cruise ships for the sail away. I spend that time unpacking but disney has a wonderful sail off party. The shows seem to be the same as last weeks and I hope that they will add Herbie by the time we cruise we don't leave till JUNE 25.

I hope they add Herbie to the movie list too! We sail June 18th!

Thanks for the post! Sounds like it's NOT a good idea to be at the port early.

Yes, LA does have an ugly port area. It's one of the busiest cargo ports around, so hence, there's no beauty in cargo! Such is life.

Can't wait to hear your next post!

Hello All. About 1pm on the high seas.

What time to get to the terminal? Well, you still have to get checked in, and the lines did get longer as the day went on. So, I'd still probably get there before 11 and just bring a book.

A Bon Voyage is a stawberry smoothie thing with rum and whipped cream. Got one "with" for me, and one "without" for DD. Today's drink of the day is the Panama Hat. Haven't tried it yet.

Yes, the port isn't much to look at, but DCL does a nice deck party. Wish it lasted a bit longer, everybody was dancing and happy.

Pretty overcast and breezy today, although a few hearty souls are swimming. I woke up about 8:30am and went to the fitness center for a workout, and I got to see the last two sets of the French Open final. Then, I enjoyed the rain forest for 45 minutes or so. Then I rejoined the family for lunch at Lumiere's. We hardly ever do the sit down lunch or breakfast, so that was a nice treat. We all had fish and chips and a brownie sundae! Vacation? You bet!

We're going to the matinee show of Golden Mickeys at 2pm today, so we can see The Incredibles at 6pm tonight. Seen both before, but they are family faves.

FYI, I did book a 2nd dinner at Palo just to see if I could. No questions, no problems. They didn't seem to check or care.

We gain another hour tonight so I'll be back on Central time.

Can anyone on here anwser theses two questions

I heard Que left DCL, is that true or did her just leave for vacation time? because I know when I went on my Cruise Western April 23-30 2005, Travis started his vacation time. So I was just wondering because I didn't know and how could DCL let Que go :confused3

Also, I read that someone said that Doug said he was going to work for another cruise line, know what one?

  :earsgirl: :earsboy: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :wizard: princess: :mickeybar

Que is still on the ship. He is still running the Bingo sessions. One of the girls that work with him was leaving after the Repo cruise, but Que is staying.

During our big time Disney Repo Cruise FIRST EVER SLEEP OVER (re: pins) - stretching from Session (aft) to Parrot Cay Restaurant (stern) - from 10:20 pm until 8:00 a.m. - Que gave out free bingo cards for everyone for the next morning.

It was a big hit with everyone

Don't know about Doug

Can you help me out with our Palo reservations? I've never been on Disney Cruise and wanted to experience Palo since everyone said how nice it is. I was told we should do brunch instead of dinner b/c the dinner rotations is something to also experience and not to miss every night.

Should we bring snacks if we arrive early? Was there any places to get something to eat? Can you eat in the terminal?

Thanks

I need a Disney coloring book and would be more than happy to pay for it plus the ship/hand it would take to get it to TX. If you can help let me know how much it is in a PM or an email. This is the one thing i wanted and didn't get on my last trip. Thanks for looking and have a great cruise.

i'm confused :confused3 Our tickets say boarding begins at 1 but many people mention getting there early - my DD wants to arrive by 10 am. Can we check in and then come back (we have family in the area). I'm thinking check in and then go for brunch and come back at Noon or is there a chance we could board early????

Mexcruiser - I saw nothing that would stop you from checking in, going away, and coming back, provided you've got some transportation. The only advantage of arriving early is to curb your excitement by doing something, and getting an early boarding "group". Depends how desperate you are to get on ahead of everyone else. Now that you can do your ressies beforehand, there's less urgency to me. They may well start moving up boarding time, but they also might not --- there's only been 2 cruises and it's anybody's guess at this point.

mhelsely, I'll look for the coloring book today. I measured a door for someone yesterday!

Yesterday I hit the Rainforest twice and steamed my brains out. We saw the Golden Mickey's matinee, then the Incredibles, then dinner, then a comedian, then National Treasure. Golden Mickeys is one of our favorites; love the tunes. The strawberry sundae smoothie combo dessert last night was a hit. We've got our character breakfast in just a minute, so I've got to run. More later.

If they have a question and answer session, could you ask them what the new children's area will be used for after drydock (when the conference rooms are taken out). Some of us are wondering if a possible new 'tween' group will be formed (12-14 year olds) like on the RCCL. If not, which age group will be using the new area?

Thanks!
DJ

Is there still the rusul bath offered at the spa? If so, could you tell me the price? Thanks.

Don't know about Doug

I think Marla was refering to this post on the Live from June 4th Magic:

"After dinner they had Bingo. A one game $300 thing. I took down goodies we had brought to Que but I was told that Que has left DCL-------WHAT?????????? How could they let him go? Doug said he took a job with another cruise line for a huge promotion. We were heartbroken. Had the opening variety show with Freddy Fusion who my kids love and Gary Delena (what is the deal--he seems to be on every cruise thus far) not very funny. Have seen him before and unfortunately saw him again tonight. Kids are at midnight pizza party in lab so I guess I'll go get a Baileys Colada. We will keep you updated. Not a lot of familiar staff faces----makes me worry. Rachel is cruise director. Captain is ?(not Thord)

So far my best advice is don't show up early. We really did not enjoy our 3 1/2 hour wait. We did have fun getting to know our other DIS friends. We have about 10 families on board.

Out for tonight
Judy"

OH MY - QUE IS REALLY GONE??? Just last evening (Sunday) I talked to a CM at DCL re: another matter and Que came up in the conversation.

Apparently they did not know yet that Que is gone. She said that "of course, Que, is still with us. Guess this info. didn't didn't get around too fast. I wish him luck.

The Pacifier was a cute movie, but I got up and left during the Hitchhiker movie, I thought it was stupid. My DH fell asleep during it, and my boys, 13, 15, said, it was kinda stupid too, but they like pacifier... They need to change that movie, it doesn't measure up the the rest of the good shows, they are performing in the Walt Disney Theater
