We have an OKW resale that has the benefits of the Blue Card. Is there anyway to buy more points resale and keep the benefits of that Blue Card? We really want BWV. We just can't justify buying direct from Disney at the prices they are advertising. Thanks all for any advice.

So, if we buy BWV while we own OKW, we're good - if I'm understanding. What is in turn, we then sell OKW - does the BWV go to the white card then? Thank you!

If you have a contract that qualifies for a blue card, you are a blue card member. If you don’t have a contract that qualifies, you are a white card member.

My understanding is yes, the membership will lose the blue card status if all qualifying contracts are gone in the membership. Keeping the resale contract purchases in the same membership (by keeping same UY and deed owner/s recording) with that qualifying OKW contract, maintains your blue card identification.

If you had a OKW with blue card. got BWV resale and then sold OKW then yes, you would lose the Blue card.

It would revert to the White Card. You need to keep whichever contract has the Blue card in order to keep benefits. Or buy some points direct with Disney.

But if you kept both OKW and BWV, then you would keep the Blue card.

But, keep in mind that any resale points purchased now cannot be used to book RIV or any new resorts going forward. Your OKW points can be used for RIV because they are grandfathered in, but the BWV points will not be.

This is incorrect. The new resale purchase will have nothing to do with maintaining your blue card status. It does not matter what UY and/or deed recording for the new resale contract. The only thing that matters in this case is keeping the original resale purchase that qualified for the blue card.

However, it will be easier to manage if your contracts are the same UY and deed recording (one membership number).

The PP is partly correct. If the contracts are not titled the same or have different UYs, they will be separate memberships. Only the membership(s) that have qualifying points will have blue card status. So if the OP buys BWV in a different UY from the OKW contract, that new membership (the one with BWV points) would be a white card membership.

This actually matters when it comes to reserving things like Moonlight Magic. If you have a stay which has been booked under your white card membership, you won’t be able to book MM during the window which is open only to blue card members with a confirmed reservation. But if you have both contracts under one membership, you can book during that window even if the points used for the reservation were from the non-qualified contract.

Sorry, but I believe this is incorrect. According to the DVC site, as long as you are a "qualified member" (blue card holder) with an existing reservation at ANY Disney owned and operated WDW resort hotel in Florida or Vero Beach (the lists includes budget and moderate resorts) you can reserve Moonlight Magic. I have stayed on rented points and was able to have access to all of the blue card benefits. As long as you have the blue card, how you book the reservation is irrelevant.

This is specific to Moonlight Magic:3D07851D-0F39-4B65-9427-54824B993630_4_5005_c.jpeg

I respectfully disagree on the “this is incorrect” after quoting me. I don’t believe I said it maintains your blue card “status”. I wrote it maintains your blue card “identification”. The membership won’t have a white card and a blue card in it. The whole membership will be identified as a blue card membership in the system with that qualifying OKW contract.

The status for a blue card is based on owning qualified points in a membership. You can have a mix of resale bought prior to 2016...when this restriction happened..resale bought after...or direct owned points at whatever minimum was required after 2016 when you bought.

If any of those contracts are then sold, and you don’t own other points that are qualified, you will no longer have the blue card,

So, if OKW contract is what qualifies you, then you must keep that if you want a blue card benefit, If you sell, the only way back is 125 direct...or more if that goes up,

In terms of having a mix of points used to be eligible for things like MM, it doesn’t matter what points you stay on...you are eligible to go. I have a white card membership...because I sold the BWV contract that made that membership eligible...and a blue card membership which holds my RIV points.

I attended MM in Jan 2020 while staying on points from my white card membership. It was noted that I had both so it was not an issue.

Of course, any new points bought resale...in addition of not being eligible for blue card...can’t be used with your other points to reserve RIV or future resorts.

So, if you want BWV, and blue card, you have to keep OKW...or buy direct points if you want to sell that.

I guess I'm confused what the difference is between "status" and "identification" (none, really). My point is that once you have a blue card, every other purchase is irrelevant with respect to that status/identification. I will have 10 contracts, 3 different UY, one contract that gives me blue card id/status. Regardless of which contract I use, I still have blue card status/id that I can use for benefits. The only benefit I can see for having one membership is ease of use. It has no impact on your blue card status/identification.

If memory serves me correctly there used to be a lot of issues with people reserving Moonlight Magic tickets, even when they were blue card members, if they were staying on a white card membership. This happened when people were trying to get a reservation online as the system did not recognize their blue card status. Many events, other than the MK ones, sold out so quickly that by the time people contacted MS to sort it out the events were full. Some people would contact MS in advance to ensure that they were noted in the system as qualifying. So yes they would qualify but the booking system didn't recognize it and people got blocked out.

We've gone to quite a few MMs while staying on our white card Membership (we also have 3 Blue Card Memberships).
Each & every time, we received the MM sign-up email.
Just like staying at a non-DVC resort paying cash, the system just verifies that you have a valid Blue Membership & are staying on-site. Not once did I have to call MS.

As long as you own a membership with blue card perks you will have blue card perks. If you see the membership that has the perks you loose blue card perks. Keep OKW contract.
