Hi

I was so upset today to hear that David Beckham is no longer in the squad. David said he understands but will fight for his place. I am so shocked. I sort of knew this would happen after he quit or shall I say advised to step down. I am mad at the moment. As you can probably tell I am a big David Beckham fan

after the poor showing at the world cup he had no choice but to make changes no-one should be gauranteed a place

He did play very disappointing games,but lets not forget that wonderful goal from the corner!!
But ,yes,he must prove himself.
I myself would kick out Wayne Rooney if he cant control his temper!!!

I, for one, am very pleased. For a long time now, whenever Beckham has played England have played poorly. If injured, or taken off part the way through the game our performance has improved. Granted, he does score the odd wonder goal every now and then, but I just wonder how many goals we would have scored without him.

Oh course, if England now flop I'll have to go and eat that old straw hat I have!

It was the right decision based on performances which is the way any team should be selected.

I hope that David will respond by showing everybody why he has 94 caps and was picked as captain in the first place, by putting 110% into his football over the next few months. I still think there is a place for him in the England squad if he ups his game to the level it was at up until after Euro 2004.

Beckham was the most consistent player for Real Madrid last season - it wasn't his fault that Sven played stupid formations that stifled players like him. To drop him but leave in the likes of "can't hit a barn door" Lampard and "rich boy but really I'm a thug that belongs on jail" Rooney is contemptable.

Quite agree, might improve the behaviour of other football players if they were thrown off the squad for losing their temper.

It would be a sad way to finish his international career. I'm glad Venables is back though - I always thought he was alright. I wonder if Rooney has enrolled for his anger management lessons yet!

I don't know if he has done the right thing dropping Becks, but i really do feel for him. He puts so much into his football and his country and he did score a great goal in the world cup. I do hope hes gets his 6 games to get 100 caps

Even though I'm a huge Beckham fan I'm glad Maclaren has taken this decision even if it just proves to the other players that no one is guaranteed a place and they'll all have to work to retain it. There are so many promising young players out there now Maclaren has a huge choice, Rooney watch out!

I think the real reason Beckham isnt in the squad is more to do with his injury(or comeback from injury), he has played only part of a game since the world cup and would be no use unfit. he will be back in the squad for the next game, if hes injury free.
