We're booked for May 2014. No discounts or special offers have been released yet.

In reading other threads, with the for dining offers, some people are having trouble having it applied to their stay, having to change rooms or resorts, as only so many free dining rooms are available.

Now, from what I've read, May is traditionally a room discount month. With being booked already, is the room discount offer more likely able to be applied to all reservations? Or will it be like the free dining where only so many rooms are eligible for it?

We're budgeting for the rack rate and paying for dining anyway, so a discount (any kind of one) will be a bonus, were not counting on it to be able to afford the trip.

All of the discounts that Disney offers will have limited availability. Whether it is free dining or room only. If a discount comes out for the resort and room category that you have already booked, the discount can be applied to your exsisting reservation. If not you would have to change your booking. Depending on the timing there could be a change fee involved, but if you call to make that change sometimes Disney will waive that fee. I would watch for the announcements vigilantly and call as soon as possible because as you have heard, some of the eligible rooms sell out pretty fast. If you aren't able to watch that closely you may want to give your reservation over to a travel agent that will automatically check when special offers are released and advise you what is available for your dates. Then you make your decision and they will handle it for you. I don't use a TA because when I have a pending ressie, I am always chaecking on everything obessively. Good luck on the discounts and have a great trip!:)

We changed our reservation 3 times last year as discounts were released. We were originally booked at POFQ, and when details of the Jan 3rd discount (which applied to our may stay, 30% off Mods) it was also revealed POFQ was only getting 5%. So made a new reservation at POR. Then on Jan 3rd when the discount was released, coulding get through on the phone, so I made another reservation online with the discount, then had to call in to cancel the original POR. Later on we ended up extending our stay a couple days, but our discount still applied to those days.

So, the discount details will be what they are, and are essentially blocks of rooms and room types at specific resorts which qualify. When a discount is applied to your room/package, its really more like your room/package is applied to the discount :)

You may have to consider changing resorts or room types in order to qualify, OR, you may be lucky and have your resort, and room type, be available when you call in to apply the discount :)

I think there is still limited availability on the room only discounts. We were booked for a package deal for POFQ for our trip next month. Our package included the room, dining plan, and tickets, and I booked it back in January. When the room-only specials were released in August, I called in to see if we could apply the room discount to our package. POFQ was slotted for a 5% room discount. The CM checked but told me the discounted rooms for POFQ were already gone. (I called first thing in the morning of the release day but there were only a limited number of rooms available for the % off. However, there were still rooms available at that resort by paying full price.)
We ended up switching to Wilderness Lodge for our upcoming trip. We're actually spending a little bit more but we were able to get 30% off at WL and I felt like it was worth a shot since we were able to get a discount this time.

So, I guess if I'm reading your question correctly - it sounds like you want to know if you'll qualify for a room only discount and be able to apply it, no matter what, since you're already booked. I would say it will all come down to availability at the time the specials are released and how many rooms they allot for the special discount. Just because you have a reservation and a discount comes out, doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to get it. It still depends on what is available.

I really hope that all makes sense. If not, let me know! ;)

Thanks everybody!

We did use a travel agent this time out, and yay for us, she's a former CM with Disney. She worked at the Canadian pavilion. So not only is she constantly checking the travel agent emails & releases, she has a few good friends who send her info direct from Disney.

I think my bases are covered!

It sounds like you're in good shape as far as someone being on top of discounts if/when they are released :thumbsup2. However, as others have said, there has to be availability at the resort you have booked in order to get a discount applied. Booking early gets you exactly what you want, but having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied, so sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort/room type in order to take advantage of a discount.

Oh for sure! We plan on paying for what we booked as is, no discount offered. But if one comes up that we are eligible for without switching things, then bonus!
