I can't remember if I posted this earlier, but while at the Poly in Nov/Dec my husband questioned a staff member about future possibilities of a hot tub. The staff member told him that there were discussions of hot tubs being placed along the beach so you could enjoy the view, but due to the economy that wasn't going to happen. However, he told him that by April 2010 the children's fountain play area was going to be taken away and a hot tub put in it's place. We are going back in Nov/Dec 2010 and are excited to get this confirmed. Anyone going soon that can check to see if this is true?

Wow, that would be great!! About the only thing I can think of that could actually improve on the Poly - a hot tub!!

Hey everyone! i stayed at the Poly last July and we just booked another trip for the end of july! Im so excited! we requested tokelau (spelling?) but i may change it to figi because it seems like you either get a view of the marina or the gf.

This is such a wonderful thread! :flower3: I just booked the Polynesian for May and I am so excited! Last year with the 4/3 deal we stayed at the Beach Club and love, love, loved it! But it has always been my dream to stay at the Polynesian. I pretty much grew up at Disneyland (my grandfather retired from there). When we first visited WDW in 2004, our day at MK followed by the monorail ride to the Polynesian for dinner made me sooo happy! For some reason it just reminded me of the magic of my childhood at DL riding the Monorail to DL Hotel! It took some convincing to get the DH to stay here because he loved the BC, was wanting to wait until Christmas to go, and was wanting to try a moderate! But with the special offer, he finally said o.k.! My daughter thinks we are staying at the POR. Not sure if I should tell her or surprise her! My boys will love, love this resort!

Well I hope to keep reading about others TR's at the Poly and any PTR.

I do have a few questions for Poly veterans:

1) I am still undecided on requesting a room. I booked standard GV. The only room I don't think I would "love" would be one without a balcony or patio. Other than that, I am so undecided. Any suggestions? Is third floor better than 1rst? I would love to have a beach or marina view with a walkway very close by. Is one beach better than another?

2) I really, really want to try those macadamia nut pancakes but we don't plan on eating at Kona Cafe. Can you order them as room service or to go?

3) I LOVE Stitch and I am sooooo excited for our breakfast with Lilo & Stitch. How is the character interaction? I have booked Ohana AGAIN for dinner. We vowed to try all different restaurants every time we go, except this one!

4) Does anyone know how late the boat rentals stay open?

Thanks for the all great info. on this thread!

:sunny:

Sunshine,

If a balcony or patio is your first priority, I suggest that you make that your request. Hopefully you'll get what you want that way. :)

I know that Fiji has lovely marina views -- Breezysmom posted some a while back on this thread.

As for 1st vs. 3rd floor, it really is a matter of personal preference. Many people with little kids prefer the first floor since they don't need to bother with the elevator with their strollers. Also, you can open the patio door and the kids can play in the grassy area in front of your room, thereby "extending" the size of your room. Some prefer a balcony for privacy and views. Just depends on what you are comfortable with.:goodvibes

They do, but they are for the luggage (unless you get lucky). We just walk around the beautiful gardens and enjoy it!:goodvibes

If you are staying CL they will take you to the Hawaii building with/without your luggage-otherwise you have to walk-but really the walk isn't as bad as the map looks-maybe an 8 minute walk from TTC to GCH-I love the walkways-stop & smell the flowers & take pictures!

Thanx :goodvibes Was just checking as I clicked on the map yesterday just for funsies and pointed to Fiji, DF commented "oh thats a long way from T&TC" so I said I would ask you guys. I don't mind the walk, I'll bet there are so many different routes you can take, that you will see something new everyday maybe :)

:yay: to all those that have booked and :wizard: to all those thinking of booking, hope you get to go :goodvibes

Just made my ADR's. We got everything we wanted, woohoo!! Trying Jiko and Kouzzina for something new this time and DD talked me into doing the Luau again! We're so excited!!!

This has become my favorite new dining experience in WDW! The Filet Mignon with Mac N Cheese was fantastic - don't change a thing if you order it. I almost subbed out the Mac N Cheese, but went with Chef's choice and stuffed myself. I hope you enjoy!

Even though some of the buildings don't have balconies on the second floor, the doors do still open for you to look out. We requested a 3rd floor for our up coming trip. We have 2 little ones and didn't want them escaping too easily...they have been know to just open doors and go! Guess it's all about preference.

Happy Planning!

Thanks! We're pretty excited to try it! :cool1:

I have a two part question:

I read that there were Ipod docking stations in all the rooms to charge your Ipods...can you also play music through this (do they act as speakers?)

The reason I'm asking, is, I ordered the Wishes soundtrack through Disney, and uploaded it on my Ipod so I could listen to it while we're watching the fireworks from our room. If not, we'll just listen with headphones :)

Second question is, when do you start the soundtrack? Is there a way to tell by looking at the castle when to start the music?

TIA if you can help :thumbsup2

As mmmears posted, it really depends on you. I liked having a first floor room when my DD was little because I just felt panicked about being on the 3rd floor with a child so young at the time. Now that she's older (10), I prefer the 3rd floor. Both beaches are very nice but I prefer the quiet beach next to Tuvalu and in front of Aotearoa. Folks seem to forget it's there and it's a great place to watch the fireworks while sitting in the hammocks.

You can definitely order these as room service. As for being ordered 'to go', that's a good question! Anyone else know?

All of the times we've been to 'Ohana for breakfast (which is about 6) there was only one time character interaction wasn't that great. It was busy and Mickey hardly spent any time at our table. The other times (and the other characters, Stitch, Pluto and Lilo) were AWESOME!

4) Does anyone know how late the boat rentals stay open?

The rule of thumb is until dusk. However, the exact hours are printed on the Island Times (?) newsletter you're given when you check in. I think someone has a picture that shows the actual hours for the Mikala Boat Club.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

We might be going to WDW/Polynesian in July for our anniversary trip!!:yay::woohoo:

OMG, this is AWESOME! Sending lots of pixie dust your way that this happens! :wizard:

Congrats! If you're on the marina side of Fiji, all the views are great! However, and someone will correct me if I'm wrong, you need to either be on the far end of Fiji and on the top level to see the GF. I know when we stayed in Tuvalu I wasn't impressed much with the garden view side of Fiji. It wasn't *bad* at all, just not something personally I'd prefer. :goodvibes The lower levels you see Aotearoa, the walkways and the garden side of Tuvalu.

Thank you! That was all very helpful!! The first time we went to Disneyworld in April of 2004, we walked around after dinner and I think we ended up on that beach. We found a hammock and the four of us practically had the beach to ourselves for the fireworks! It was wonderful.

I am sooo glad I can order the pancakes as room service! '

I am so excited, May can't come fast enough!

Does the Polynesian have a bakery where you would be able to have a cake delivered to your room? My in-laws will be there in February and we'd like to have a cake sent. Thanks!

Okay...this might be a silly question!

How do you make a room request? Do you just call the main Disney number or do you call the Poly directly?

I am not POSITIVE, but I believe the cake would come from the GF. Poly doesn't have a bakery to do their own . This is going from what i have read and process of elimination.

Hi lissiesmum :wave2: and all my Poly friends :cutie: :cutie:

Yes, the docking stations charge your iPod AND allow you to play your music thru its speakers. You could even set the alarm to wake you up to your favorite Disney music thru your iPod :wizard:

katiebelle21 - call Disney Reservations and add your room request to your reservation.

I have been reading through all of the threads, so I thought I should post something. We are traveling to Disney in a few weeks and so excited to be staying at the Polynesian. My dh and both stayed there when we were little, but now we are taking our girls. We visit Disney at least once a year, but with the DVC points we always stay at OKW or BCV. This time we decided to splurge (with the 4/3 deal it was a pretty easy decision) and stay somewhere we have always wanted to stay. This is actually my graduation present because after many long years I just graduated in December with a degree in Elementary Education.

Traveling with me (Angie) is my dh, my dd (11), and my dd (9). The girls know we are going to Disney but they have no idea that we are staying at the Polynesian. I can’t wait to drive up (we are driving from PA) and they get all excited. The night before we are staying on Hotel Blvd. by Downtown Disney so I told my dh that we should drive into OKW and then turn around.:rotfl2:

This is also our first time using the DDP, so I have been researching everything having to do with the best snacks and counter service for the money.

We also just volunteered with the GAD program. Since we have a package that includes tickets we are thinking of using the FP option. However, we have one extra day that we can go into the parks so we might change our mind and get the ticket. I think we are going to wait and see how we feel when we get there.

I know this has been a long post, but I also see a lot of talk about which longhouse to request. I just put in that we did not want first floor (long story, but had problem with 1st floor at BCV). We keep going back and forth on whether to request something more specific. I think I might leave it up to chance and see what happens. I just don’t want to look at the parking lot.
