Aloha! ***Welcome to the NEW Poly FAQ***

This sounds cool. If Mickey and Minnie are hanging around at the Poly when I get there tomorrow (don't you just love being able to say that?) that would be a treat.

Lucky you, do keep us up to date and let us know if they are there to greet you :goodvibes

He also mentioned a Aloha Mickey and Minnie character greet in the lobby some evenings?? Has anyone seen this or have pictures? It sounds wonderful! I hope it is something they continue to do.

Just FYI- this was a temporary holiday enhancement that has concluded. Most deluxe resorts including the Polynesian had some characters in the lobby for meet and greets on several select days of the month of December, and this has been true for a number of years, at least the past two that I can remember. Characters in the meet and greet switch off on each of the days, Mickey and Minnie or Lilo and Stitch. The night before Christmas, Santa is in the hotel lobby.

Moderate resorts have similar meet and greets, for a lesser duration (two days).

Character meet and greets are not a normal feature or something offered at Disney Resorts.

My mom and new hubby are taking my family (4), my sis's family (2), and my bro's family (6) to Dis this Oct 2nd thru 9th. I believe she has her heart set on the Poly. I am a fairly experience Dis guy, already read unofficial guide cover to cover, been multiple times, frequent mousesavers, etc. With no Oct deals out now, and having just signed us all up for vaca planning kits (in hopes of getting some type of pin code discounts), how else can I go about being a good steward of mom's gift to us. She kinda put me in charge of the planning (which I love to do anyway). Help!

I just booked a 4 night stay in april (with 40% off pin) for our "honeymoon" we never had one because we were building our house so this year we are taking a "honeymoon" lol I called yesterday and got poly 4 nights, ddp and fl res tickets for a total of 1600.00 thats alot but this trip is importent for us...he asked me to marry him on the beach at the poly while watching the fireworks after eating at ohana! We always said we would stay there one day (we like AKL) AND never got around to it...we are going to AKL CL for a week at christmas so we chose to go ahead and give it a try....:cool1:

You could always book something so you know you will have the resort of your choice, etc. Then if a deal comes out-book that & cancel the 1st. We never get any pins/codes-but as you read here there are alot of people that do! We waited & we were able to get 40% off for our upcoming trip. Just the deals Disney had out there...sometimes it's worth the wait-but if you know for sure Disney trip is going to take place-I wouldn't wait-but definitely keep a check on deals throughout the year!

my son could sit up yes! he was 5 (44inches tall)

Thanks, my ds5 is about 47in. tall right now. I'm not sure how much more he can grow before next October!! He is growing like a weed now! He really likes the looks of the volcano pool, but is worried about being able to sit up and it being too dark inside the tunnel! He seems brave enough to me..Splash Mountain is his favorite ride at Disney!:yay:

Zippa - I might be too late but have a great trip!

Nope, not too late. We drop the kids off at school at 7:20 Friday morning and then are off from there to the airport. All packed; dogs are boarded; now it's just tick....tick....tick....tick. :surfweb:

Thanks for the good wishes

Thats a shame, would be really cool if each resort had a character greet (relating to that resort) as guests checked in.

very exited, I got a pin code for 40% of Deluxe...Poly has always been my dream resort since I saw it as a kid!
Money is tight, so Poly has always been a pipe dream, we always go during free dining/value season because this all we can afford.
when I got the pin code I crunched the numbers and figured out that we could somewhat afford 4 nights, it will cost about a 1,000. more but I will just have to pinch a few more pennys.

I am so exited! To say this is my dream resort in an understatement. I got some bad news(health related) and later that day I got the Pin code(Disney magic never fails me) and I completely lost focus on the fear but embraced the magic.

I have visions of the Luaa, the water pageant, wishes by the pool, hula lessons...

Now I am a crazy obsessive planner and already had my Aug. vacation mapped out.
Here is the crazy part, I planned a pretend vacation at the POLY on the chance we got a pin code:laughing: down to the ADR's I would pick.

and it came true! We are keeping this trip a surprise for my 3 DD's.

Me and DH will be doing a split stay POR then POLY we are going to pretend the last day at POR is our last vacation day too:rotfl:

My kids know I loooooooooove the POLY because whenever we go to eat there, I tell them how much I wish we could stay there, but we could never afford the cost. They will be shocked!
Lastly, because FD bounceback started earlier this year we will actually be there on my oldest DD's real birthday-
On our Honeymoon in Hawaii we decided to change plans and have a child sooner and we even have pics of me with towel under my shirt marking our decision- so family lore is in Hawaii we chose to have her and that Hawaii is her special birthplace in a way. Plus the same DD's first Diseny Movie was Lilo and Stich and me and her cried when stich became family:rolleyes: (we are softys)
So since we never could afford to bring them to hawaii and because of all the above reasons. This will be very special for our family and especially my oldest DD.
I get misty surprising her with the Lilo and Stitch character breakfast and then checking in to the POLY.:cloud9::wizard::wizard::wizard:

So thanks for this wonderful thread I am on page 14 and will work my way up!
Then my question shall begin:laughing:

Hi everyone, Happy Friday!

I'm sorry to ask again, but my question was overlooked and I wanted to come up with a plan B if they don't...

I had read last year that you can request a turndown if you're not in concierge level, and I just wanted to confirm this? If they don't anymore, I'm going to go to the candy shop before we leave and get some choco coins and do it myself for my DD...it was one of her favorite surprises of the day :goodvibes

I don't know if it's changed, but we've always been able to get a turndown on request. Our most recent trip was in May '09.

You sure can :thumbsup2 My only suggestion is that is you want it daily, you should call every day and request it. I have heard that it is spotty otherwise.

When I have stayed non CL I have just requested it on the days that we were going to be out later in the evening. It is such a simple but nice treat! :wizard:

We've never asked for it & never got it. Last trip we stayed CL & had it every night even though we didn't ask for it. I have heard many others can request it-not always guaranteed though-won't hurt to ask! :goodvibes

CL rooms are supposed to have turn down every night. You do not need to ask. Other rooms you have to request it. Like someone else said, if you want it every night, then call every day to make sure it happens.

We are staying at POFQ 4/21 - 4/27 on the military offer; me, dh, DS4 & DS9. I was happy with this resort, it is small, has a good pool/slide, etc. Well today the thought of changing to the Poly popped into my head (aaahhhh ). Me an DH stayed there for three nights in Sept and I LOVED it! It was so nice to be on the monorail.

Now I'm thinking of changing back to the Poly and I'm trying to justify the extra money. We are only going to MK (2x), EP and AK (4 day tickets), so being on the monorail would be so convenient of not having to rely on buses, which means we could sleep in a little later........... They have a cool pool which the kids would enjoy........... the kids could play on the beach (sand, not the nasty water)............... If Disney does't offer military deals after this year, we may not get a chance to stay there as there is no way I would pay rack rate (I'm telling myself better do it while I can with the kids ). Our trip in Sept was so relaxing and the Poly just makes me think that this trip will also me more relaxing............

Give me some more reasons why we should change................. has anyone stayed at both and likes POFQ better than the Poly?? (is that even possible? he he)

I'll give you 1 big one. Iger announced in Dec (check news section) that this will be the last year for deep discounts. This is why last year we got MKR view with 4/3 deal and are going back on 40pect off deal this year saving us 2300!!!! It has been a real stretch for us to go to WDW as we hadn't taken a vaca in 4 years and WDW in 15 but we asked ourselvs could we ever come up with an addtional 2300??!!!! Answer was not in the forseeable future so it is now or maybe never.$700 gift card just doesn't cut it for family or 5.You live life once if you have scrimpted most of your life this is the time to slurge. If you have been able to live it up a little well here is a chance to do it again!!!Our kids LOVED the Poly and being near the TTC made a big difference on the 4 days we spent at Epcot and MK. Less stress getting out the door is a vacation in itself for us mom's.

That was one thing I had overlooked with the CL. We had never had it so I didn't even consider it-when we walked back into our room I was startled a bit & then I realized...it is a nice service-something else to tip for too. (well, we do)
