ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

DD 21st Birthday, Me 50 (YIKES!) at the same time as both of you! I am almost packed and picking up tickets today WOOHOO!! 9/16-9/30 I need a vacation so bad....

We'll be arriving the next day! Packing starts this weekend....I feel like I'm so behind.

Just wondered who all was going to have to travel near the coast with Irene coming through ? Im worried for the people living on the coast :( I hope every one will be alright. They said it is the biggest hurricane that we have had in decades .

We're not going until October but I have a friend who was supposed to take the auto train down from VA to FL on Sunday. Well Amtrak canceled all trains Friday - Sunday so he was scrambling yesterday until he finally had to fork over major bucks to get a flight out Saturday afternoon. They added a day in FL and spend a lot of money, but they'll be away from the storm and on vacation in DISNEY pixiedust: so I think it'll be worth it. If they would've waited the storm out, they would've missed at least a day of the trip, if not more depending on the damage. Since we're in the Philly area, we would've had to consider the damage from Philly to FL and they may have wound up flying anyway. I think it's a good call.

Wow, just had a look at your photos - they are amazing!! Out of the 2 cabanas, which one would you recommend? Does 1 have a better view or more space?

Thanks for your help :)

The regular cabanas are the same size, but I personally feel there's a bit more space around Mauna Kea. I did use both & I really liked it better.:wizard:

How exciting! I see there's a bunch of us going around the same time. We should all meet up for a drink or 5. ;):rotfl:

Yes what better place to be during a hurricane but Disney  Im glad I dont live on the coast and have to leave for Disney before Irene comes in because I dont know if I would enjoy it being worried about my home.

Well, I got bad news yesterday - my grandmother passed away :sad1: It makes it all the more meaningful to me to take our family vacations and enjoy each others company. So to everyone - enjoy the time you have now and at the Poly. Cherish every minute and be thankful that we are able to enjoy such wonderful vacations!

So sorry to hear about your grandmother Tinkerbellie. My condolences to you and your family. Your words are so true ... not to take things for granted, but to cherish every minute with our loved ones.

Very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Time is definitely precious!!
I've been thinking alot about our upcoming trip and have been more excited than normal because I'm looking forward to really spending TIME with my husband and children - you know without all the other stuff that gets in the way on a daily basis!

What's going on with the path from the Poly to the GF? :sad1:I read on another forum that you can't walk from one to the other any more. Does anyone have any information on why, etc?

Construction on the new DVC at GF

Seriously? Why can't they leave well enough alone?! The Poly & GF are beautiful resorts just as they are. I can't help but feel between the transportation issues & now this that Disney is killing these two resorts. It's sad.

I have alot of pics of both regular cabanas (My signature picasaweb), with views from cabana towards pool. My kids are 11 & 14 and I was able to watch them extremely well, in all areas of the pool. When I originally booked a month before my visit, all cabanas were open (late July) The day I enjoyed my cabana Sunday July 24, the other two( reg & premium) were already booked. I was able to book another day with a reg cabana three days before use-at that time they were all available, the day of the second cabana use (July 27), only the reg cabana was being used, premium was still available.:wizard: It also makes for a good base for kids to return to after swimming without fear of someone moving your towels or taking your table.

Great photos thanks for sharing ! Your daughter looks just like you :)

It seems everyone is going towards the end of Sept, you should have a Dis get together. I will be going next week, I hope if Irene doesnt mess things up lol

I wish I could focus on Disney but all I can think about is this hurricane making her way up here. :sad2:

Its funny, I have so many people tell me she looks like my Dh! Its nice to hear she favors me. The usual response is --"Awe, your daughter is so pretty she looks just like....Ryan." (hubby)I'm like thx alot!;)

This time next week I will be about an hour and a half away from Orlando!! So excited!

So my DS almost 18 came to me and is waiting until Thurs NIGHT to do his laundry and pack! We are loading up the car Fri night so we can get up and leave by 430 am.. I have a feeling I will be stuck doing the laundry and packing for him, otherwise it wont be done in time..Teens..

Been arguing back in forth with DD almost 15 about wearing sundresses for our dinners.. I did get her to agree to a sundress for ohana and CG.. Wish I could get that child to dress girly!!

Im feeling very very grateful that Irene isnt hitting Charleston, I remember in 89 how we lived without electricity and water for 2 weeks! Not fun! Praying that the rest of the east coast avoids damage and stays safe..
