ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

I apologize if this has been asked already. I haven't made it all the way through this thread yet.

Do the rooms still have the bedspread and not the down comforter that all the other resorts seem to have now? Just curious! Thank you!!

Debating a club level stay at Poly. Never stayed here before.

Surprised nobody picked up on the thread about the lagoon being drained, or dredged, or whatever it is that is happening.

Any advice on buildings to avoid during all the GF construction? Or does it matter? If we stay concierge level, will the views from Hawaii be affected at all, do you think? Is the noise likely to be far enough away that the Poly won't be much affected?

Yes, they still have the polyester bedspread:sad2:. The only MK area resort that doesn't is the CR which has the down comforter with the duvet.

The pathway and the construction are so far away it will not be an issue.

Here now and spoke with a cm, the construction at the gf will be a gf themed dvc to open in about 18 mos.

Okay, here's a question for y'all. Of the many times I've made a building request, I think I've gotten it maybe twice, and this is at relatively low occupancy times. Maybe I'm just unlucky on that count, but I was thinking this time I would make zero requests and finally leave it up to the tiki gods. What has been your experience with this? Am I gonna end up in Rapa Nui or in the giant shrubbery view room? Does a mid-week check-in make a difference? Mahalo in advance.

Ha!! My request now is always Rapa Nui and havent't gotten it since i started requesting it!

We checked into the Poly today!!! We were upgraded to TPV. We are in Tuvalu and our view is amazing. I've already had my first dole whip :-).

Congratulations on the Pixie Dust!!!! Some day...maybe we will get an upgrade, but always happy just to be there. Can't wait to see the photos....

Also, I must shamelessly say.....I HAVE NEVER HAD A DOLE WHIP!!!:scared1:

Just never appealling to me....(no flames please).popcorn::

By the way has anyone ever seen someone out in the day to day world and seen a Mickey antenna bobber and sped up a little to see if they are a DISer....or see someone at grocery store and they are wearing a Disney shirt and you just want to ask...are you a DISer....just so you will have someone to talk about WDW with and all of your insanity. A lot of my co-workers already know I am a dedicated WDW fan and luckily I work with a wonderful DISer ;) so when we do run into each other it's two maniacs in a corridor have record speed conversations about the WDW....

By the way Breezy...we still need to get together for lunch!!! We have decided not to do MNSSHP because for our whole party to go it would be $500...I hope we won't regret this....Oh and I will be paying your department a visit soon so trying to plan on a day that you are there!!!:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::eek:

We check-in at the Poly 8 weeks from tomorrow. :cool1:

As far as room requests ---- I always request "3rd Floor with Balcony" and we've always gotten that request. As far as getting our requested longhouse that's been hit or miss for us.

We're livin' on the edge this year and have decided not to request a specific longhouse.....wonder what we'll get??? :crazy2:

I just got back from 12 days at the poly
We requested Tokelau and got it...Check out my trip report in my siggie! :cool1:

We never request any particular building ....we let it be a surprise :thumbsup2

On one of our trips they upgraded us to the CL....we always get the all inclusive dining package with 3 meals a day so we really didn't use the lounge for food or drinks...but it was nice of them anyways :)....loved the location!

Years ago the package we used was called the Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card package...included all tips...:worship:

It hasn't changed much! :thumbsup2 I can't tell you what is different but I can tell you it is very similar!

Quick question..Are you suppose to tip guy who brings your bags to the room and from the room to your car? I thought last yr I had read you werent but the guy who brought luggage to our room held his hand out and waited?

Needed to make sure we have the cash..

No flames at all! I actually had never heard of one until AFTER we stayed at the Poly the first time. But I am a pineapple FREAK so I had to try it. I liked it but my favorite is the vanilla/pineapple swirl - that is heavenly for me :cloud9:

Tipping is always optional but these people are generally tipped - we certainly do. I can never remember the rules on tipping for the boards so i would recommend searching this subject on the internet and they will list the standard tips in case you are wondering what is appropriate.

I love the vanilla/pineapple too! :lovestruc I find the pure pineapple a little overwhelming.

I think from what I've read anyone who handles your baggage should be tipped, eg. the ME bus driver (ONLY if you have your luggage with you & he loads it on & off the bus), anyone from bell services who delivers your stuff to your room etc.

I know that one night they had mini corndogs and another night there were wings from Kona and potstickers that were REALLY yummy, but I couldn't tell you which nights those were.

sorry a head of time if i asked this, but I am going to try your atience once agin:sad2:, Capt cooks CS,i thought I read where Its open 24 hrsIs this true?, if not what time do they open In the morining for breakfast?

Yes, they are open 24/7. They close the grill (not sure when), but still serve flatbread to order. They open the hot breakfast line at 6:30AM. Hope this helps!

Hey Blue, I tip both!

Bellman – $2 per bag, coming and going. It doesn’t matter if you had the same bellman upon arrival and departure, the process of lifting bags deserves gratuity.
Car Valet – $5 is a safe bet. Upon check-in, it’s not necessary to tip the valet if a bellman is taking your bags. Just an idea of what we tip, sometimes more. ;)

Unfortunately for me, I bring alot of bags and there heavy, so my bellman gets a workout!:scared1: But also rewarded for his service.
