ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Hello all. I am like some of the newbies to this thread. I was upgraded due to the Royal Rooms at POR not being ready. My wife and I are really excited about this. When we were given a choice for which deluxe resort we would like we jumped at the chance to be in one of the original resort at Disney.

I am sure this has already been asked but we are overwhelmed with info. We have been moved into a GV room. Which building should we request and what is the best way to make our request?

Thanks in advance.

congrats on your upgrade!
Which building you request really depends on what is important to you:
If you want to be close to the GCH & pools request Samoa. One side (and you can request which side!) faces the volcano pool and GF, the other side faces the quiet pool.
This is the view on the volcano pool side:

Figi faces either the marina, so you have a partial water view (and potentially a view of the CR, but not MK) or the other side faces a beach and the luau area. Figi is also close to the GCH.
This link shows both views; the first picture is the luau side, the others are the marina side.

If you prefer to be close to the TTC then request Tahiti. Being one of the newer longhouses the bathrooms in Tahiti also have double sinks.

I'm sure there are others that have great advice on some of the other buildings too. For tons of info on the resort in general check out the first couple of pages of this thread.

Room requests are generally made by calling the central reservation number. Not all of us have connections like Venonhatch ;)

I let my DS pick the resort for our August trip and without hesitation he picked Poly CL! Looks like we will be there twice within 2 months.

We were at the Poly for this NYE. The WiFi is there but when DH was doing his web cam (Hawaii Bldg MK view) it was clutchy. He used our own MiFi card then finally decided to call for the hard wired cable which cost $ but it worked perfect. For surfing the internet the WiFi worked great. Poly was in perfect shape! Weather, well, not so much. The last two days of our stay it was cold, the humid windy 40's for high cold, but that is FL for you this time of the year. The day before we were sitting by the pool bar in swimsuits and it was perfect. *Something I have never seen before, yesterday, the check out day, the boat that came from the GF hotel was the larger enclosed boat that is normally used for Wilderness Lodge. It was that cold yesterday morning. Today is much better. Kathy

we are leaving Sunday morning I guess I should start packing but as luck would have it I've a sore throat and it feels like a gravel pit .yuck:sad2:I'm hoping it will start to feel better soon because now I just don't feel like doing a darn thing.I've planned all year and the was definitely not in my plans .Well enough moaning I'll tell all when we return but we have never had a bad experience anytime there so I don't think it would start now .Aloha for now:goodvibes

Hi there,

I'm another POR transplant that is expecting to make the change to the Poly, and I'm really excited! We stayed here for the land portion of our land/sea honeymoon in 2005. I loved the resort itself, but I wasn't too impressed with our room, it seemed a little dingy and run down. Looking at the map, if I remember correctly, we stayed in Aotearoa, but I'm not 100% positive. I've read that they did go through renovations though, so I'm hoping that this stay will be better. We went through a TA for this trip, so I was proactive, and told her that I wanted either Samoa or Fiji based off the recommendations on this board :thumbsup2 She hadn't heard anything about the room changes & resort upgrades, so she probably thinks I'm this crazy lady who is stalking her with random rumors. Hopefully I hear back soon, I'm going nuts over here!

Were you a garden view? If so the Fiji and Samoa Buildings are good suggestions. The Fiji one can get a great view of the marina even though it is classified as a garden view. Check out http://www.tikimanpages.com and you can learn a lot about the Poly there, just like our counterpart the www.PortOrleans.org, you can learn a lot and potentially try for a certain room and back up room choices.

Yes, we were a garden view. We wanted something close to the GCH, and the pools. I'll check out that tikiman site...

Id recommend the Fiji building, 3rd floor, its a garden view and short walk to both pool and GCH.

Also does anyone have a room map of just one room furniture placement etc in the Tuvalu building?

Hi all -- we will be at poly at end of January. I went on Tikiman site and based on his description of what room to pick for a garden view, I asked for Tokelua. It seems like on this thread Samoa and Fiji are being recommended more. What i would really like is a room that has been recently renovated and is fairly centrally located. Based on that --- which is the best longhouse to pick? Which longhouse was most recently redone? Thanks.

Lauren

If you look at the room pictures on the first page of this thread they show the layout of the furniture in all the rooms (the layout is the same in all of the longhouses except for the Tonga suites).

According to Tikiman's site all of those longhouses had room rehabs in 2010 - I'm not sure if that is accurate.

We loved Tokelau and would highly recommend it. The rooms were some of the biggest ones in WDW, nicely renovated, and the location is ideal...by the quiet pool and an easy walk to TTC and GCH. We even got a glimpse of the castle in our GV room! I'd suggest requesting a third floor room looking out on the pool for that view. We would be requesting the same for our visit in 3 weeks but we took the plunge and did CL. :woohoo: Maybe we'll see you there!

While a marina view in Fiji would be amazing or a lagoon view in Tahiti as well - I am just not wanting to set myself up for disappointment, so my only request -a room on the 3rd floor in ANY building!!! I just don't want to hear people (little crazy excited kidlets mostly) running around on the floor above us....... Am I nuts for being so non-nonchalant about it?

That last part was funny, nice!

I don't care about the view AT ALL - just the ability to sleep. Because really now, let's face it.....how much time do we REALLY spend in our room staring out the window when we're in DISNEY WORLD?!?!?!?!?!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

People are always told to list their requests in the order of importance, that way the room assigners know what your priority is when they are giving you your room. You could always request "third floor, Figi or Tahiti." That way they know the third floor is your priority. You can always request a different room at check in if you don't get the third floor (if one is available).

Really though it's not that common to hear someone complain about their room assignment. Our first trip we requested Tahiti and ended up in Tuvalu. While initially disappointed that we didn't get the longhouse we requested (though we did get third floor/connecting which we had also asked for) we soon realized that Tuvalu was great. I think most of the longhouses have positives! It helps though that you are being non-chalant about it. Sometimes I think people get so wrapped up in what their idea of a "perfect" room is that they let it put a damper on their holiday if they don't get it.

I have requested Tokelau 3rd floor. My DS and I first time at the Poly so anything will be great!

:woohoo:

My sentiments exactly! My DD, my parents and I are all going there together in April and I can not wait! It'll be my DD's first time at DW and all of our first time at the Poly! :thumbsup2

We were on the first floor and it was incredibly loud with stomping etc above us. 3rd floor seems like a good idea!!
