hi there- first time poly guest, as well.

if create an account on https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/ you can do a pre-check in, which will allow you to request a longhouse and if you'd like a patio or balcony or a few other options.

we have reservations for the spirit of aloha luau. i figure my 8 year old son will love it, but it might be a little too cheezy for a 13 year old girl.
Thank so much! We will be there August 9-14.

We have done the spirit of aloha! Cheesy but fun...lol. And the fire dance is awesome...something for everyone!
I was thinking about doing it again...because last time my now 13 year old was so young she fell asleep.... The cm were so sweet they pulled up another chair so she could lay down...

Staying in August with the Magical Deal. Do I tell my agent to put in a specific request for me? We are travelling with another family and she did put a connecting rooms request when we first booked.

But now I'm wondering if I should request a certain building. We would like a ground floor that lets out onto a grassy area to let kids have a little extra running room while we sit on the patio, lol. Would also like to avoid quiet pool construction views if possible. I though Niue and Samoa facing west looked great, but wondering if its worth it, because I imagine those are popular requests with being so close to the feature pool? I though west side of Fiji looked nice too, with a grassy area and view of that beach etc.

any suggestions? This is our first Poly stay.

We stayed last year at WL and got a first floor exterior room facing the DVC villas. At first we were disappointed, but then we realized how nice it was to have the grassy area for our kids to run out into and burn off some energy.

We'll be there August 8-14 :-) So excited!! We are doing Spirit of Aloha our 1st night. My girls are 12 and 15 and they are really excited to see it!

When it is all done you will be able to walk past the outside of the Outrigger Assembly House to get from the east side to the west side. Also along the beach you will be able to walk from the boat dock over toward Hawaii Longhouse.

For Trader Sam's Grog Grotto and Tiki Terrace you will check in (first come first serve) and get a pager to wait for a seat.

Do you have to have a pager to get in or is that just to get a seat? I was thinking of stopping by one or two nights and just grabbing a drink or two or three.

If its at capacity you won't be able to even walk in unless someone walks out (assuming its like it is in Cali - fire rules are fire rules), but you can order a drink from the patio!

Soft opening starts tomorrow night according to the blog! Official opening in late April when they get the mugs - so exciting!

Question:

Is the Polynesian ever offered for Free Dining or 30% RO discounts? I assume I can make a RO reservation at full rack price and keep shopping for discounts. Can you keep the same reservation?

Yes, you will find both types of discounts for the Poly. Usually RO is a better deal for deluxe resorts (but do the math for your particular group/room type/dates, etc). The Mousesavers website has a chart of when discounts typically drop throughout the year. Also, if you keep an eye on the discounts forum (a sub-forum of this resort forum) discounts are always followed in there.

And yes, you can make a reservation and have a discount applied later if a promotion starts (as long as there is availability for your resort and room type).

So, do you think the mugs are the glass ones you can buy in the Poly gift shop or something different? I'm there next Wednesday/Thursday and am just praying that Trader Sam's is open Wednesday so we can get a drink after our Kona dinner. When I switched our first two nights I was expecting a new pool and a new bar along with the new studios. I already lost the new pool...."soft opening" tells me I might lose the new bar as well. I don't really care about mugs.

They will be different - there is a maitai glass in the pics that is different than the one used at DLR, and the Nautilus at least will have its own custom mug (for the $52 rumored price tag, it better!!!)

There's a 30% discount on now for June-Aug stays at the Poly, excluding DVC.

My 11 yr old daughter liked it. :cutie: My 14 & 16 yr old boys thought...well, you probably know what they thought :confused3
Lol

We are scheduled to arrive 4/18.

I splurged and booked Club Level MK View. I was really excited about this, but am thinking I should cancel (it's a room only rate so I can).
We are a party of 5 and can stay at Caribbean Beach for a fraction of the cost. We love CB and will only be there for 4 days and have rented a car anyhow.

I'm worried that the pool won't be ready and construction will put a damper on the stay. We go to Disney at least 1-2 times a year so I'm thinking it would be best to save our fancy-pants splurge stay for when things are more complete.

What do you guys think?

I think you answered your own question and that's the only vote that counts.

Hmm, that's new for me. I go several times a year and that hasn't happened. Maybe they finally getting better with requests?

Hey poly peeps! I just booked at GF for 8/16-20. Is anyone going to be at poly then? I got Sugar Loaf for the same price as Poly CL with the Orbitz coupon stacking so I am going to give up view for scones this trip. I will still visit poly for meals, shopping, dole whip and Traders!!!

Been absent from the boards due to kitchen remodel. Hope all is well and happy planning!!

ummm... ME! i will be at the poly for my bday 8/19-26!!

i think it depends on what your rate was. if you got a fantastic rate, then i would just go with it. but if you paid regular rack rate, i would probably wait until construction is further along.

Aloha, we just booked our first stay at the Poly from 5-12 September. We are usually a Wilderness Lodge family, but the magical deal at the Poly was so good I just couldn't say no (shhh don't tell the lodge we're cheating on it). This will be our first time at a monorail resort so we're beyond excited. Thanks for all the great info on the board, looking forward to keeping up on all the news and questions.

Same here. We're a WL family too, but am really looking forward to staying on the monorail and trying the Poly.

Since Trader Sam's looks like it will be open when I get to Disney (end of April) how big is the patio? I'm hoping to sit inside, but is the patio a good size just in case?
