Can anyone please explain all the excitement surrounding Trader Sams? Isn't it just a bar?

I can try to explain! Not just a bar, but a TIKI BAR, which I believe to be far superior and way more fun. There is a Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel, and it's just such a fun place. Trader Sam's is one of my favorite spots at DL, so the fact that it's coming to WDW and specifically to Poly is very exciting. The Trader Sam's at DL is quite small, but it looks like the Poly version will have lots of outside seating - wonderful!

Although I'm sure it won't be that great, and with no personal interest in decreasing crowd levels for our visit, I highly recommend that everyone stay away on Friday, March 27. :)

LOL!!! :p Thanks, I guess I'll have to experience it to get it. *insert pineapple drink with umbrella emote that we don't have*

Just booked our first stay at Polynesian. It's one of 4 resorts that we have yet to try! Is a standard view a garden view? I just booked a standard view but when I just looked at the first page explaining all of the longhouses, I only see garden listed.

YEs, standard view includes what used to be gardenview as well as parking lot and monorail

Please let us know how not great it is, so I can be sure to check it out for myself come mid-August. :)

So just because I have a "standard" view, I could possibly have a garden view. It's not like a standard view at say beach club, where I am looking at a roof, dumpster or parking lot. What's everyone's favorite longhouse for standard view? We will be there during the quiet pool construction so I think that I would like to be away from that side of the resort.

Of the longhouses that remain (non DVC) we had a great room in Samoa, theme pool side third floor. It's a bit noisy on that side though due to the pool but you can actually see the lagoon from the side

Ok so need your help. We are currently booked at the pol for the end of August. but am now thinking of switching our trip to the beginning of may. We are travelling with a newborn and thinking that weather wise in the beginning of May will be more comfortable for him then end of August. We still want to stay at the poly. Realistically what construction will still be going on in may? Will it still be a mess?

there will be lots of construction either time, but it looks like they will be wrapping up some major pieces by April. Construction is likely to be similar May-Aug.

From personal experience at WDW with little ones during both times, I'd choose May without a doubt. August is sweltering and we always get the afternooon downpours. Last year we had whole days rained out end of July, 8-12 hours of constant rain. Still a fun trip, but certainly not the best. May is usually much more pleasant, in terms of weather.

Of course, 3 months older might make a big difference in age/abilities/adaptability of a newborn.

We are going in October staying GV CL since there will be so much construction on and around the east pool what are the chances we won't be directly facing all of this? We will have a 9 year old and an 18 month old, the baby will need midday naps. Should we just forget CL for this trip if we want to stay at the Poly?

I have the same question! You must have gotten a magical deal too?? My daughter will be just under a year and I'm quite curious about whether or not she'll be able to nap, although with an older brother and sister she can sleep through a lot.

We switched to Poly from WL for our first ever WDW vacation! We arrive September 30 and leave October 5. We will be staying CL, and we're so excited for the trip!

I posted about this about a month ago, but I know there are lots of people who probably missed it, and Guitarob has messaged me about people asking about updating the Poly thread. Just so everyone knows, I am working on it. He asked me quite a while ago if I would take over. We have decided that with all of the changes it's time to update the thread even though we're not yet the page count when a thread is close to getting locked (due to capacity) and a new thread started.

I have started working on the information but wanted to wait until the switch to the new board happened because I wasn't sure how things would transfer. Then by that point I realized my family's trip was fast approaching so I might as well wait and get all of the pictures I need while we're there, plus I can get some first hand information on the changes.

So, for those who have been asking Rob, yes, a new thread is coming! My family will be at the Poly from the 13-21 and then I will get working on the new thread as soon as we get back. I appreciate everyone's patience! Mahalo!

Thanks so much for keeping the Aloha going!
