Are there still spots to get a prime view of this during construction (from the beach)? We'll be there in a week,
Will there be construction on Kona Cafe?
Tikiman thought there might be some changes but not sure if disney has announced yet. I have lunch there 8/12 with dd.
It's her favorite Disney meal. Pulled pork tacos! Funny what kids like.![]()
Just my 2 cents...we are also a family of 6 and we are staying at the Poly in December. Only because my aunt won a trip and is staying at the GF with 2 of my dc. So I only need one room. I would prefer to be close to them so we are staying at the Poly for a very good discount. There is no way I'd pay rack rate or close to it for two rooms. And I am a huge Poly fan!
I'd look for a villa. You could stay in a villa for the price of 2 rooms unless you have a great discount.
We are here now, and still enjoying our stay despite the construction. The kids are swimming in the quiet pool, which us rather warm but with the air temps so hot I think it's unavoidable. The bungalows are coming along, there are more of them then I thought there would be.
This is our third visit here and it's nice to see done of the same CM's working in the temporary Captain Cook's. A research cm asked us lots of questions a few days ago about what we thought of everything. He also asked if anyone had told us to swim at the Grand. Interesting.
Anyhow all for now, heading to Kona for dinner!
We've stayed Poly CL a couple of times and love it! It's so nice to have the lounge for extra space and to just be able to wander down and grab a snack, etc.![]()
We arrived today and have a room in Samoa facing the quiet pool. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with the state of the resort. I guess I was expecting the worst but neither myself or DH think it is bad at all. About two months ago I was getting nervous about the resort and contemplated changing; I'm so glad I didn't now. The quiet pool looks nice and is rather empty. There are plenty of available lounge chairs. We are off to Ohana.![]()
Last day for us. I'm glad others have also been pleasantly surprised with the condition of things. For us, the vacation was very relaxing and much like previous years without construction. The biggest loss was the pool as I always thought the Volcano pool was one of the best. I'm happy we got to spend time in it for its last day of operation. Funny enough, it's still in perfect condition as we speak, filled with water (but of course that will change shortly). The mostly empty East pool was a pleasant surprise. Since a few long houses are out of circulation, the resort feels less crowded, which adds to the peacefulness.
I can only speak for us staying at Hawaii, but I can count on one hand the amount of times I heard construction noise from our building. This may change when the pool starts getting worked on but as of now it's been great. Overall, I think they did a nice job covering up most of the construction in the GCH and around the property with walls and pictures. The Hawaii lounge still has that great view of the castle, only with bungalows to the right. The staff is awesome as always.
The Poly is still a very expensive resort, so it's up to each person to decide if it's still worth visiting right now. For me, I wouldn't hesitate staying at Hawaii again during this time. I hope everyone else who is currently here or soon arriving has an absolutely magical stay! I may post some pictures this week as I took tons and if anyone has any questions I'll do my best to help. It never gets easier leaving this place, especially the relaxing Polynesian. Now to look forward to my YC/GF stay in late October![]()
Some people have asked what the current view from Hawaii TPV is. We were just there over the 4th of July. Construction did not impact us at all, but then again the pool was still there. We didn't mind seeing the construction of the bungalows as we're very interested in the progress.

I think we are going to do 2 rooms at POR. We've done the 2 bedroom villas and loved it, but this time they are pricing out at $12K vs. $8500 for two POR rooms.

I thought the same thing, going in three months and just want to see how far along they are.
And here I thought I brought some life back to this thread with my reports![]()
The after-stay resort survey was more detailed than usual as well. They touched on our satisfaction with Blizzard Beach passes, thoughts on construction, East Pool, restaurants, etc...
Gave honest feedback as always - Though being that I'll be at the Grand next I'm not so sure I'd love them allowing pool access now lol ...Not that the couple people who seem to be using pools at the Poly now make much of a difference![]()
One year from today I'll be at the Poly!!!!! Yea!!! Nothing like a 365 day countdown![]()
Just checked into Hawaii building. Got 1505 (our room request). Construction is done for the day so nothing to report. But so far, the only bummer is having to walk around the front of the GCH to get to the little ferry boat to MK. Especially if you're staying in Hawaii, that's a real drag. Overall, thrilled we made it. I've been up since 3:30 a.m.PDT.
