I think at this point I'll just pack my Keurig and save myself the trouble of wondering about the coffee dilemna. :thumbsup2

I don't like the molten lava-hot charcoal for $6 a cup they sell at Kona.

I tend to agree.. But if you get the coffee at 6 am it has not had time to burn. Just don't drink it if you are there at 7:30a I really don't think they make fresh every hour like our precious waa waa, 7-eleven or Starbucks! I stand at kona with a really sad puppy dog eyed face before they open and they usually GIVE me a fresh cup of coffee. (probably so that they dont have to look at me anymore). Just to let you know if you would like to try a really great cup of Kona coffee, order a press pot from room service.. Every year the day of our departure we order this huuuuge breakfast from room service. I can tell you we have never been disappointed with any aspect. they even bring you a toaster for your bread! :worship:

Hi'all,...I am staying GV CL in October at the POLY....very much looking forward to it :goodvibes My question is, right now I have a request in for a 1 or 3 floor room....which is better noise wise??? in a first floor room, would I hear alot of walking about above us??? I would prefer a quieter location
Thanks for the help!

We got a 1st floor room in Hawaii and after the first sleepless night thanks to loud neighbors above us, I got us switched to a 3rd floor room. I recommend the 3rd floor, obviously! :)

I am with you on that, I even bought the smallest one that Keurig sells to take on our last trip. Still it is almost 10lbs to the suit case.

TaraPA!!! ~ You're back!!!! How was the trip??? :goodvibes

Welcome back......how was it????? popcorn::

It was WONDERFUL! I can see why Poly has such a huge fan base. We got off the bus & just started taking pictures like a bunch of tourists! Another guest walks by & says "it never gets old, does it?"

Check in was smooth around 1pm but the room wasn't ready til about 4:30, so we did a lot of meandering around the resort. We were in room #1941 at the end of Tokelau near GCH. This was the absolute best location for us, soooo close to everything, that I'd request this exact location again. It was only a few steps to the left to the TTC, a few steps straight out to the resort buses, a few steps off the patio (we were 1st floor) right into the quiet pool, and a few steps to the right to the GCH & Captain Cooks. LOVED IT!

The room was HUGE and immaculate. No complaints at all. Ok, well, the AC unit was loud. I mean LOUD like a plane was taking off in the room. This actually became a positive, as my friend got a nasty 24-hour stomach bug around midnight that 1st night - and with that on, I didn't hear a thing! She spent the whole 2 days & nights at the resort - she never left. She said she had a great time (other than being sick) just relaxing in the room for 24 hours, then venturing out to walk around. She said there's no other resort she'd be happier being sick at than Poly!

Captain Cooks was always crowded, and I'm not overly impressed with the food there, but it did the job. I had eaten there a few times in the past & thought the same thing. But they do have my beloved Tonga Toast, which I had both mornings for breakfast! For a resort CS, it's just fine. Better than most other resort CS locations. We didn't get a chance to do 'Ohana or Kona since my friend was sick. We've done Kona many times before for breakfast, but we had wanted to try it for lunch this time. Next time!

For anyone interested, the bathroom at the quiet pool is very large (and was also immaculate. I went to MK for about 4 hours in the am, then got my bags from Bell Services, took them to the quiet pool, changed into my suit & swam for about an hour before catching ME. The bathroom there was perfect for a changing room.

The Monorail was closed every day we were there for a period of time. Sometimes randomly we'd see it running during the day, so not sure if they opened it up when the construction stopped for a break, or if it was a test run. Being so close to the TTC it didn't make a difference to me.

The pool slide was closed both days we were there.

The Bounceback was 35% off deluxe for specific dates through 2012 (I think, don't quote me on that. Might have only been through October, didn't look at it too closely).

The coffee maker was a Cuisinart pod style - Carl not sure on the model but I might have it in a picture I can post later. There were several pods provided (in the drawer below the wet bar area). I love black coffee & liked the ones I used in the pods. I'ma ssuming they're Cuisinart brand pods, but I didn't really look. I happened to see a room in Tuvalu and they had the exact same Cuisinart pod style machine.

The 1st half of the trip at BCV was also wonderful. Loved everything about BC too! So Mousemommy1 you have a GREAT reverse trip to look forward to!

Pardon the interruption, could someone tell me whether the walkway between GF and Polynesian is open during construction?

I am so glad to hear that you had fabulous trip!!!! :yay: I saw some of your pics on the Poly pics thread - nice!!! I can't wait until our trip ~ only 128 more days to go!!! :scared1:

:thumbsup2 That is the first thing that goes into the van when we pack. We picked up the small, one cup model for $99 and we just keep it packed for our trips. :thumbsup2

Heres our little buddy at the contemp.

TARA FROM PA
Your trip sounds lovely! I am going to Poly in June for first time and am doing the POLY and BC CL on split stay. I am a die hard BC/YC lover and am nervous for my Poly gig! Silly huh? could you equate the two pools for me - volcano vs. sab in terms of crowds etc? I got a PIN for 35% off Poly so I am trying it for the first time. Also, I am outside of Pgh, PA - saw you were from PA too..thanks Melissa

Great to hear you got a PIN. I have a trip booked for TPV CL at the Poly in October, and am hoping to get a PIN. I have priced trips, ordered a map, and ordered the 2012 planning DVD, but still no PIN. Any advice on getting a PIN?:confused3

I call it a PIN but it really wasn't. I had the room booked at 20% spring discount and 35% at BC CL. Ic alled to ask CM if she could make it all BC CL b/c deal was better. She offered me pixie dust and gave me Poly at 35% off. She was awesome!! HEnce my keeping the poly..,

Tara thanks for the review! 149 days for us!!!

Keep on counting down Dani, keep on counting down!!!

I could NOT stop taking pics at Poly!!! It was so lush & tropical - so different from any other Disney resort I've stayed at.

Wow a 3rd person doing the BC CL/Poly stay! Hello Pgh! I'm so glad I got to try both resorts. I love them both! It's hard for me to compare the pools since SAB is under construction right now (I posted pics on the BC/YC thread earlier today) - it's very chopped up & ugly. SAB was still crowded though. The Volcano pool is much smaller than SAB, and was also quite full. Since there were no kids on this trip, we made use of all the quiet pools (and hot tubs at BC) - we LOVED the quiet pool/hot tubs at both BC and BCV - they were empty all day & night. We did use the quiet pool at Poly & it was 75% full, so that will mar my opinion of it! Had it not been so full I would have absolutely loved it even more.

Ok I just talked in circles & didn't help you at all!

If you will please give us the name and midl # of the one in your room I will find a pic and specs and post it.

This is the only pic I took of it & it's hard to see:

I could not find it on the Cuisinart website.

Wow that IS a new coffee pot with the plastic pod things!! All this time I was thinking that everybody was getting the coffee sealed in a filter with an actual plastic pod single serve! So this pic has actually put a lot of confusion to rest! They must have replaced or in the process of replacing the old two serving coffee pots with actual pod single serve since our last trip in June!

Thank you so much for your undying devotion to us fanatical Poly planners!:worship:
PS. Your Poly review was great! But did you have to tell everyone about my quiet and private morning retreat? (the quiet pool bathrooms) it is soo great when you have a room full of people and need uhhhm a place to read.:rolleyes1

Thanks for sharing Tara! Your Poly trip sounds like it was great except for your friend's illness. I plan on requesting Tokelau on our trip so I'm glad to hear you liked that location. I'm debating on whether or not I want to request a ground floor room. I think it will be helpful if my son does decide to take a nap.

The coffee situation is a dilemma. I was excited to hear that the new Cuisinart machines were in the rooms, but now there are reports of that coffee being no good. I'm a Keurig girl so I may have to buy the smaller model and pack it for our trip. It will depend on what airline we end up booking and what the baggage fees are if any.

From what I gather from people's descriptions of the coffeemakers it must be similar to this one:
http://www.everythingkitchens.com/cuisinart-coffee-maker-2-cup-WCM11.html

However, in reading the questions on that page they state that the exact model at Disney is a newer model that is not yet available.

ETA: Those machines above (which look similar to the ones in Poly pics) use these:
cuisinart-1-cup-pod-reg_popup.jpg

They are single servings of coffee contained within a filter. Cusinart refers to them as pods but they are not the same as or compatible with K-cups.

Umm we had the same thing in our room as in the pic, and below the coffee maker in the cabinet there was pouches with coffee in them. No pods. There was small filters also you have to drop in to each before putting the coffee in.

I believe this is the specs on the machine that was posted by taraPA
