ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Hey Poly peeps!

Finally here live for a few days and just getting to reporting online. You can always follow my Flickr feed (my profile is my DIS name) for the pics I post from my iPhone as I roam the World.

I got my room request in Tuvalu (and yes I checked in online). The cool thing this time around was when ME pulled up to the Poly there was a CM waiting with a clipboard in hand who personally walked us into the Poly and assisted us with check-in. We have a 1st floor room and it is heaven here. The walls need a little bit of touch-up paint but nothing else looked worn.

My main gripe (which in no way has affected my vacation) is how disorganized housekeeping seems to be. Maybe it's because it's the 4th of July week I don't know but one day my request for early housekeeping wasn't done (they did send someone down about 30 minutes later) and the turndown service I requested was never done.

So far we've dined at Captain Cook's and Kona Cafe (no Lapu Lapu for me yet though) and everything has been very tasty. Our servers have been awesome (good to see so many familiar faces). cmac609, no way, no pineapples?!?!? I had one with my breakfast (the fruit plate) yesterday morning.

DD11 is off at the Neverland Club so I've got some time to just chill out, relax and enjoy my lagoon view. Here is a pic of the 4th of July fireworks from my lagoon view room:

I'll be online for a few hours (ordering room service and I've got wireless broadband) so I can answer some questions.

Hi MsStinkerbelle - I'm glad to hear you're having a good vaca. You're at the Poly so why wouldn't you be :rotfl2: Did you happen to notice if there is any new Poly merchandise at Boutikki? Thanks, and enjoy room service.

My experience is to never underestimate how much rest little ones need. My opinion would be to stay closer to home for that first night. Another option would be to make an ADR but not set your heart on it. If things are already kind of chancy, then just cancel and go to Capt Cook's.

And remember -- in case of a melt-down (adult or juvenile), a taxi home can be your best friend. :)

thanks for the live post and pictures- getting very excited for our Aug trip and really thinking about the cabana

I am soo excited to be at the Poly! DD11 and I have started to find some 'tikis' hiding around the resort. I think I've seen some new merchandise in BoutTiki. Will take some pics tomorrow. I know I tried to find the beach towel but couldn't.

Oooooooooh I'm so jealous! What a great view!

Thanks! It really is an awesome view. I love how this longhouse doesn't have a beach in front so its like you're 'floating'.

On another note, the 3G coverage at the Poly is AMAZING! Love it! Both my iPhone and my wireless broadband card are chugging along perfectly.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking but was hoping you were going to say that the ride from the Poly wasn't too bad. I guess we won't chance it and will stick with 1900 Park Fare.

Just arrived, and everything is wonderful. castmembers are very attentive and especially sweet to my girls. Our room in the Hawaii bldg. is spotless. Buttons were left for my girls and we had a birthday call waiting from Mickey. Dh just took the girls to the lounge while I unpack. Incredibly spoiled and we have only been here 1/2 hour!

Yippee, another live report! I'm so relieved to hear that thus far your room is clean and the CMs attentive. Where's dinner tonight?

Did you take the golf cart? What room view do you have? I'll be in the Hawaii bldg. 3 weeks from tomorrow, so I would love to continue to hear about the lounge, service, mousekeeping, etc...

Thanks so much for checking-in with us on your vacation:goodvibes

Barbie checked us in to! She went out of her way to match us to the correct room (we had 3 rooms, staying with extended family, and I asked to NOT have a connecting room. A little bit of togetherness goes a long way lol). She made several phone calls trying to find someone who knew which of the 3 rooms had connecting doors, then walked us up herself to check out all 3 rooms. She even made my kids swear not to tell Grandma that I asked to move out of the connecting room lol.

Oh. My. Do you happen to be related to my MIL?! Your story reminds me *exactly* of what happened when we went to stay at a hotel with my MIL. When checking in, I asked on the sly to not be put next to each other. So, the front desk took us literally and gave us rooms at opposite ends of the hotel. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

The MIL was mad and brought it up several times during the trip and afterward, mentioning how she thought it was a conspiracy. She guessed right! ;)
