ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Just got back from buying some laminate paper for my daughter's name tag to wear whilst there. I'm still contemplating whether to do the autograph thing with her. She's 4. She loved getting her pictures taken with them last year but not sure she'd understand the meaning behind getting them to sign a book for her. :confused3 Don't want to be a pushy mom making her do something she's not interested in, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm just eking out the little bits I need to do before the trip.
My advice is to postpone the autographing thing until later. It can be a hassle when they bring it up everytime there's a character around. She has her whole life to get autographs. Save something for the next trip.

Having severe PPD again. Need to look at pics and share.

I sure miss "my" Poly!!

Live report from poly. We had dinner at Ohanas last night and they had NO pinapples for the lupa lupas. What a disaster.

Waited all year and none for us.
:confused3

Today marks 99 days until our vacation - wahoo!!! This being our first time Poly stay and longest trip yet (10days) I've been planning non-stop. It's just my DH and me this trip  We're celebrating our 7yr wedding anniversary and both of our birthdays so I really want it special.

But...

I feel like I've preplanned and booked the life out of this trip. I really want to be able to enjoy our down time and fall in love with the Poly. So, I cancelled some of our ADRs and made some "free" days available. I have a few questions:

- Can you eat/drink on the beach? I thought it would be nice to grab our lunch and book and go relax on the beach for awhile.

- Are there any "romantic" must sees/do at the Poly?

- We're booked for a cabana for one day :woohoo: but for the other days ... is the "quiet" pool really quiet? Are there often kids screaming splashing?

- We booked a Haunted Carriage Ride for one of the nights we're there. What is the best way to get to Fort Wilderness from the Poly?

Yay - I've been lurking on this thread since we booked but have rarely chimed in... I'd better get to it!

-Theresa

Yes. You can eat and drink on the beach.

Romantic? Hhmmmm..... I like taking a walk along the beach and going and sitting out at the tip on the hill. It isn't a very traveled place so it makes for a quiet time! Maybe for the fireworks or just for the sunset? There are alot of things you could create romantically at the poly!

The quiet pool.... well, it depends on the time of year. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. It is definitely more quiet in the middle of the week, at least from my experience. BUT... it is more quiet than the main pool! :thumbsup2

Best way to FW would be to take the boat or monorail over to MK then catch the boat to FW/WL!

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Yes, I brought food/drink down from CL and enjoyed them whilst playing volleyball on beach and relaxing on hammack.

Luau, sunset at the beach, the fireworks, also my hubby mentioned the boat ride to Magic kingdom in evening and the hammack with my man, strolling arond the property and beach!

- We're booked for a cabana for one day :woohoo: but for the other days ... is the "quiet" pool really quiet? Are there often kids screaming splashing?

One morning, we woke up about 9:00am, and no one at quiet pool so we enjoyed it for about two hrs with no one else there and this was July!

Glad you spoke!:wizard:

I hope I've helped!

WHAT? NO! Guess you will have to try again tomorrow! :thumbsup2

We went to the Tambu Lounge the last night of our trip and the bartender also told us there were no Lapu Lapu's left. When I said "PLEASE don't tell me that. I'm gonna cry!" and DH said "She came 1000 miles for one of those", "Francisco" said he would check "the server's station" and came back with TWO! DH declined and one was all I could handle, but as you can see by the Goofy :goofy: grin on my face, I enjoyed it immensely!!!
Hope tomorrow works out better!

Thanks. I agree. I figure if she sees other kids doing it whilst we're there and starts asking to do the autograph thing (and I'm not able to talk her out of it!), then I'll just buy the book there at the park/wherever. I don't think she'll even notice though, to be honest. She's just stoked to be seeing/hugging the characters and having her picture taken with them.

Oh no! Was the flight change earlier ... or much worse, later than your original?

Well, it's not too bad right now, but it's an hour later. A friend of DH going the same week we are got bumped from a NS to a flight with a stop. He called and got on a NS, but at a completely different time. I'd be REALLY annoyed with that!! We have a 3 yo and the timing is what we liked about this flight! 10:30 AM, NS! We also have park passes for this day, so I really hope they don't keep screwing with the flight times! Hoping this is the end, but won't be surprised if it's not. The good news is SW just dropped their prices DRASTICALLY, so if AT changes again, I'll cancel and go to SW and book the time I originally booked on AT! I KNOW they won't change! :thumbsup2

4 weeks from today we will be arriving at the Poly! I....CAN'T...WAIT!!!!!!!:cloud9:

OH NOOOOO!!!!!!! I'm so sorry for you. Hopefully they will receive a shipment of pineapples today. We will be checking in tomorrow. I hope the pineapples come....

Rented standard cabana for full day Sunday 24th at POLY, I might switch to Premium if still available closer to trip, not sure-- SHHH, its a surprise to family! Knowing my DH, he probably forgot they had cabanas! He one of those DH's who loves the trip and WDW but I'm the planner, packer etc, he's the payer--HAHA, he just goes with the flow, he just asks for at least one or two games of golf! No problemO!:rotfl:

I was shocked at all the cabanas being available so close to trip, 2 weeks & 2 days! WOOT

I *so* look forward to hearing about your trip! Especially how you think they've done this year compared to last. :goodvibes

Thx, I'll take more pics than last yr and another trip report, also I will try my best to keep informed while there!

Remember if anyone needs a POLY fix (11 months ago) pictures are on my photobucket and alot of them of POLY!:thumbsup2 just click link.

Hey Poly peeps!

Finally here live for a few days and just getting to reporting online. You can always follow my Flickr feed (my profile is my DIS name) for the pics I post from my iPhone as I roam the World.

I got my room request in Tuvalu (and yes I checked in online). The cool thing this time around was when ME pulled up to the Poly there was a CM waiting with a clipboard in hand who personally walked us into the Poly and assisted us with check-in. We have a 1st floor room and it is heaven here. The walls need a little bit of touch-up paint but nothing else looked worn.

My main gripe (which in no way has affected my vacation) is how disorganized housekeeping seems to be. Maybe it's because it's the 4th of July week I don't know but one day my request for early housekeeping wasn't done (they did send someone down about 30 minutes later) and the turndown service I requested was never done.

So far we've dined at Captain Cook's and Kona Cafe (no Lapu Lapu for me yet though) and everything has been very tasty. Our servers have been awesome (good to see so many familiar faces). cmac609, no way, no pineapples?!?!? I had one with my breakfast (the fruit plate) yesterday morning.

DD11 is off at the Neverland Club so I've got some time to just chill out, relax and enjoy my lagoon view. Here is a pic of the 4th of July fireworks from my lagoon view room:

I'll be online for a few hours (ordering room service and I've got wireless broadband) so I can answer some questions.

We'll be staying at the Poly next Feb. (first time since I was little and first time with the fam.) and I'm working on dining reservations so that I can make them at the end of next month. How much of a nightmare is it getting to DDD from the Poly? Does it take forever? Are buses really full most of the time? I'm thinking of doing dinner there our first night (or afternoon for late lunch) but will have a very tired 1 and 4 year old with me (and most likely a cranky husband to boot!) from early morning travel. I've not had good experiences getting to DDD from other resorts. Should I stick closer to the Poly or chance venturing out?
