ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

I am now single digit dancing!:banana: 9 Days until we leave! We are heading to Sarasota first for a couple of days to see a friend but I can still single digit dance! :cool1: I will be at Disney in 11 days! YAYAYAYAYAY!!! :yay::yay:

Ok.... Just a quick question... since we are staying CL would it be stupid to upgrade to Deluxe Dining? I am kinda thinking so but would like the thoughts of anyone who has done this? Or anyone else? :confused3 TIA~!

We have done both the regular dining plan and deluxe with Club level. The Deluxe IS a lot of food ... but we have growing teenagers who love to eat. When we did the deluxe we did a lot more 2TS signature meals so that was nice. We also enjoyed having 2 snacks a day ... we used some for water at the parks if we were there for a while b/c one bottle carried from the room often didn't last the entire time at the parks. And there's nothing like a nice cold bottle of water in the heat!

Overall, we enjoyed the freedom of the deluxe b/c we didn't have to worry about running out of credits or using them to the extreme to get our money's worth ... it was nice to let the kids go over to captain cooks and order a burger and not worry about running out of credits.

Here's our view on this. We stay CL each time we go.. And we have done deluxe dining.. So here goes.. We do not rely on club level food as part of our dining experience. We eat a banana or cereal in the morning.. And maybe a dessert or cocktail in the evening. I don't understand the reliance on CL level offerings as part of the meal supplements.

Deluxe dining is a whole lot of food..keep that in mind. Three table service meals and two snacks per person per day equals a whole lot of food!
If you like to eat and not worry about how much you have to budget (you already payed) then that is the right plan for you. But going back to the resort because they are serving food in CL is not ideal.

Who is going to be there next week? We get in the 10th... Im trying not to look at the weather forecast!!

Very true about the club level food ... it's way too hard to plan your day around the food in the lounge.

We're staying club level for the convenience of knowing which building we will be in -- the Hawaii building is perfectly located -- and the ease of check-in.

Also, we do enjoy a light breakfast ... so the oatmeal and other items are nice for a quick breakfast. We also like having the lounge to go to while others in the room are taking a shower or napping ... it's like extra space to hang out and enjoy.

We also enjoy coming back at night to watch the fireworks from the lounge, play a family game at the tables, and enjoy a glass of wine or other after-dinner drinks.

We've been going since 2000 and it's like going 'home' every summer.:cloud9:

Oh no... I wouldn't rely on the food in the lounge but we are going to spend a little time at the Poly so it would mostly be while we were there, I don't think we would leave a park to go to the lounge.

The deluxe is 3 meals a day either TS or CS correct? We have two TS ressies that require 2TS credits and the rest are just 1TS credit. Trying to decide if its worth all the extra since its like an additional $24 pp per day. I am thinking it might be! I have 9 days to decide and you guys have helped so thank you!

Yes, it is 3 meals a day and you can use them for either TS or CS. The plan is very flexible ... and I think it is worth the extra dollars per day ... and you do get an extra snack .... and a refillable mug too!

We have also arrived at 7:00 a.m. for check-in at CL with luggage in tow. Surprisingly, on both occasions our room was ready for us. We weren't expecting that, but dropped the luggage in the room and headed for an 8:00 a.m. EMH at MK on one of the occasions.

At a bare minimum, bell services can take your luggage and store it while you head to AK.

I have never tried to deliver the luggage prior to check-in at a resort, but since folks do ship boxes and luggage these days--it shouldn't be a problem. :confused3 Why not check with bell services while you are at CSR and see if it is a problem to do the night before drop off of luggage. Wouldn't you still have some items at CSR overnight that would need to be stored somewhere? What will you be doing with those necessities?

Thank you!
If we drop our luggage the night before I would just keep a few items in an overnight bag. We will have a car but after our day at AK we are allowing our friends to keep it with them until they check in to the Poly a few days later. I would just stash the overnight bag in the car and then grab it before we took a bus over to the Poly after our day at AK. (we are all riding to AK together, but they have dining reservations that night at AKL so we didn't want them to have to drive us to the resort)
I wake up super early with the baby anyways, so I'll probably just drive over and check in in the mooring. Good excuse to grab a coffee from Kona!
Thanks again!

Just have to drag myself through the next three days... I'll be pulling up to the Poly bright and early Friday morning. :cool1:
Hope you have a wonderful trip :wizard: ... we still have 17 days until we arrive - make sure you leave some Lapu Lapu's for us! :rolleyes1

Hello gang!

Arrived at POP on Thursday morning (29), transferred to the Poly on the Friday (30). POP said our luggages would be transferred directly to our Poly room. At 11pm, Poly finally said we had to be IN the room, AND REQUEST THEM, to receive our luggages!

We saw at least 15 people working on the quiet pool today. They looked like they were cleaning up. But didn't see more because even though we had requested Tokelau, the CM insisted we would be better in Samoa, Volcano pool side, third floor... So since we were at MK today, and took the boat and the resort monorail (we have a wheelchair), we don't go on the quiet pool side.

The three cabanas were rented today.

We're very tired. It's a lot of work with DD11, but it's worth it!

So glad to hear you arrived safe & sound and all is well. Also happy to hear they are working on the quiet pool. Maybe it will be ready by the 19th?
I hope everything is as wonderful you dreamed it would be for all those years.

Thank you for checking-in with us:). The cabanas seem popular if 3 of the 4 were rented. I'm sorry about your luggage confusion. I'm sure it made a long day seem even longer, but I hope you and your family got some much needed rest last night. Have a great day at WDW and the Poly:goodvibes

I think there are only 3 cabanas, the 1 big one and the 2 others, so they must really be popular!!

Well... for the good night sleep... DD11 had "croup" last night! But she didn't panic, I gave her my "puffer" (emergency measure) and she is still sleeping very hard right now. So, here goes our "early morning at the park"! But, she'll be O.K.

Gives me time to surf the board.

As I'm on my third floor balcony right now, listening to the Poly music, not really seeing the volcano pool (too many trees, but just in front of the volcano itself), trying to relax, I don't think there is a fourth Cabana.

BTW, I'm on free Internet access right now. Don't tell anyone, shhhhh (I couldn't use the cable last night, so I tried wireless, and it works.....) a Magical bonus!

The weather is WONDERFUL! and as I write, the pool is filling, so I don't hear the music anymore...

O.K., enough of teasing you all guys....

As soon as I can, I'll report on the quiet pool,

:tinker:Poussière de fée!

I'm going over my packing list this morning and will start packing things that won't wrinkle! 15 days, 21 hours, 49 minutes as we speak!! I'm getting SO excited!!!!!!!! I can't believe it's almost here!

I am DYING of Poly/WDW envy today!! One of my students in there, too, and I'm fighting my jealousy of a six year old! Listened to DTunes Live on the way to work this morning, and it didn't help.
