ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Good morning Poly lovers! Still a gorgeous blue sky looking at the Volcano pool.

They were filling the quiet pool yesterday. Concierge said it was going to be open on the 6th. Cannot wait.

For the movies, we've seen movie screens both at the GF on Monday night and at the Poly beach on Monday and Tuesday night. Yesterday, walking from 1900 Parkfare back to Poly, we were surprise to see another screen on the beach between GF and, the Poly. We never checked if there was one at GF yesterday, but we were surprised to see 2 of them: between and Poly. Hope it helps!

I'm still on free wireless Internet access this morning. Works very well. Last night, it was a hit and miss, this is why I couldn't report. But hey, we could call DH on "MagicJack" free of charge anyway.

We are going to Blizzard Beach today. DD11 slept better last night. BB will help with the humidity level (as if she needed more humidity...) :confused3

Have a nice day wherever you are in the world,

:tinker:Poussière de fée!

Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The quiet pool will be done and all will be right with the world for our visit in T-minus 10 days.

YAY!! So happy that the quiet pool is going to be finished when we get there (on the 7th!!). I want my parents first impression of my happy place to be a great one (and construction sites just aren't high on my list of beautiful things)!!

And, that you for the info on the movies as well!:)

Just popping in to say that post-Poly depression is setting in big time! We have been home about a month from our first Poly stay, and I have been on a cloud of happy memories ever since. But now I am coming down and I am hating it! So glad I have this thread so that I can look at the beautiful pictures and live vicariously through other people who are there!

You all did not overstate the hold the Poly can have on you! We were thinking about skipping 2012 and booking a longer stay for 2013, but I just don't know if I can stay away that long! :)

I am not a doctor but I can see the symptoms you are suffering from is PPD. You do not need a doctor just lots of POLY thread hugs:grouphug:

Post Poly Depression is a terrible thing.. I feel for you!

Just checkin in with all my Poly Peeps! The last two weeks have been rough with family issues and Im missing the Poly something fierce! I would give almost anything to be there right now!

Everyone going this week or there now have a great trip!

Awww, poor tigeramy :hug: ! You won't make it until 2013. Once bitten, you find a way to get back yearly. Trust me, I am an expert on Post Poly Depression!

Suffering from PPD here, too!! We came home a month ago Monday and it hasn't stopped raining since (well, almost).

Looks like we'll be back in March 2012.

Hmmmm .... I thought the deluxe plan was $78.99 per day, while the regular dining plan is either $45.99 or $47.99 based on whether it's peak time or not?

SEE... that is what I thought but the CM I talked to this morning said it was going to cost me $612 to upgrade!:scared1: She told me the price for Deluxe is now $83.99 pp and the regular dining is $42.99. Didn't sound right to me either but she was in a hurry to get me off the phone for some reason. I think she was full of it. :rotfl2: I checked online pricing just by booking a generic reservation for the same week and the upgrade would only cost me $462!! I am ok with this! So... I am going to try again and see what happens! :goodvibes

I'm think of doing our 1st ever Poly trip next year. Reading this thread, I just don't know if I'll be able to wait that long! Thanks for the info!

I am very jealous of everyone who are going to stay at the Poly. In order to keep my sanity, I have to keep reminding myself that even though I am staying at Pop in Sept, I am lucky enough to go back to WDW. We were on our family trip at the Poly this past Dec.

For those who are going, please have a drink for me. I was at Bojangles today and saw the sporks and thought of my Poly friends.

There's nothing wrong with Pop ... when we first started going to Florida for our annual October vacation in 2003, we would always stay off-site. We were adamant that we'd never stay "on-site" as we could always get a better deal staying at an off-site hotel. We did this every October until January 2007.

In January 2007 ... after putting up with snow and being in the deep freeze for a few months ... we decided to plan another trip to Orlando for May 2007. But in order for us to do this trip, plus our October trip, we'd definitely have to watch our budget. When I started my research on hotel prices, I surprisingly found that we would stay at one of Disney's value resorts for almost $40/night less using our annual pass discount than what we would have to pay at our regular off-site hotel. Hmmm ...

Thus, began our love affair with staying on-site at Disney. We now fully understand about "the magic" so many people talk about - from the cast members saying "Welcome Home" each time you return to the resort, to finding a personalized birthday card from Mickey and Minnie waiting for you in your room after a day in the parks.

We continued to stay at Pop for both our May and October vacations until October of last year. I had finally received one of those illusive PIN offers people had talked about and decided that at 40% off, we could afford to try our favorite resort - the Poly - for our anniversary. DH then decided if we were going to do Poly, why not go all out and try CL. And thus began our love affair with CL at the Poly.

In all honesty, if Disney did away with all their discounts, we'd go back to Pop in a heartbeat!

I love the POP! Although my first choice is Poly I have stayed at the POP many times in the last several years! Sometimes money isn't always great so we opt to save a bit and we always get good service there! It is my favorite value resort and my 4th fav resort on property! :thumbsup2When you finally get there it really won't make much of a difference.... you are still at Disney! :goodvibes

I would much rather stay at the POP than not come at all! The Poly is like a guilty pleasure! :cloud9: The POP is someplace to stay so you can enjoy the Disney magic!

Anyway found a way to avoid the PPD???? I leave in just 2 days now!!! :cool1:But that means I have to leave the Poly in 8... :scared: Hoping we finally have some really nice weather in the northeast after coming home so that it will lessen the blow.

But enough thoughts about leaving WDW - I only have 2 days left !!!!!!:banana::banana:

Just have to pack clothes for myself, clean my house, and get a mani/pedi and I will be ready to leave. All this planning - and I have such butterflies I am so excited!

Have a great day everyone!

BTW- so happy to hear about the quiet pool being opened for my trip! Now if only I could find a way to get Lightning McQueen to come back out a few days early... hmmm

There's nothing wrong with Pop ...

Please don't get me wrong. I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with Pop. I have always stayed at the Poly and nowhere else. So I will be out of my comfort zone. Also, I know I will miss all the transportation options the Poly has to offer. My friend and I are looking at this as a new adventure.

In the end that is exactly how I feel.

Thanks to both for the encouragement.

We love Pop just as much as Poly! :lovestruc I agree with PPs. Staying at Pop is better than staying home. :thumbsup2 No matter what resort you stay at, you're still in Disney and that's what really matters.:upsidedow

I know exactly how you feel.. I would be expressing my dissapointment if I stayed at the beautiful Polynesian then found that I had to stay at any other resort. The Poly most definatley sucks you in, to the point that anything else is a compromise.:thumbsup2
I dont think that you were slamming the POP you were just expessing your dissapointment and frustration that you are staying at POP instead of your preferred resort the Poly.

I have no idea how to ward off PPD, as I am suffering an acute case of it myself right now!!! Just enjoy every minute that you are there...it will go so quickly! I find that looking at pictures and pulling up calendars to plan for our next trip (whenever that may be!) helps a little too. :woohoo:

My way of dealing with it is to buy lots of souvenirs, have them bagged and wrapped, then I don't open them up until 2 weeks after we get home. I space out the opening of course: 1 bag every week for a month. That way I have a little happiness to comfort me with! It has worked so far!
