ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

I'm in the same boat as you, my ADR date is about 6 weeks away. Are you staying CL? We are but I havent' received any paperwork or communication from IPO. Am I supposed to have received something from them, or should I initiate contact. I know I am still a few weeks out from the 180 mark, but I hate waiting for the last minute & don't want to scramble to have to get the info together.

Thanks!!

Poly IPO contacted me exactly 10 days prior to my 180 days booking date.

I would go ahead and contact them, you may have just gotten lost in the cracks somewhere along the way ... also if you booked through a TA or through something like Dreams Unlimited, they very well may not have gotten your info.

Gratuitous ticker check :rolleyes1

How is everyone doing? I am so ready for this winter to be over! I just wish my ADR date would come…it would make the waiting a little better. To think? We planned and saved for our first trip for 4 years :scared1: How did I survive???

It will be two years between trips for us and I am sick of watching the days s-l-o-w-l-y go by. :headache:

I am look forward to all the reviews from the spring break visitors popcorn::

I share your pain - those tickers are moving much too slowly!! ADR day can't come soon enough!

Moving slowly over here, but it's better than not going at all......This year is a shorter trip and no Poly ...We are traveling with other family members and they really want a hot tub. They offered to take one of our kids in their room so we could stay in a standard room. But I am questioning our choice....the good news is Poly in 2012.

I just wanted to stop by and thank you so much for this thread. We are headed to the Poly for the first time in a little over a month, and I am so excited I can't stand it. I stop by here every day to look at these amazing pictures and get myself a little more psyched up about it!

:cool1:

As a 40 something mom of a 4 and 6 yr old, I can't wait to be back there! My mom passed away in 2002 and never met my sweet kids. I feel like going back will help me give them not only Disney magic but some of my mom's magic too when we dance on the beach. Yay for Disney! Yay for the Poly ::MinnieMo

I go back to the Poly for the memories too. My parents (both passed) took us there in '73 and I remember doing the hula dance to the Hukilau there. Mom got me a grass skirt to wear for the dance. :goodvibes

I think it's wonderful that you have the chance as an adult to make some memories with your children at the Poly. :)

We have changed our dates again. With our latest plan, it looks like this....

9/9 - room only at Pop Century, attend MNSSHP
9/10 -9/19 - Polynesian garden view with deluxe dining
9/19 -9/22 - POFQ, with a total down day on 9/19, another MNSSHP on 9/20

As you can see, 9 of the 13 nights are at the Poly, and it's only 9 because that's how long I got through a nice special deal from an agency.

You may ask, "Why, you crazy person, are you not doing your MNSSHPs while you're at the Poly, so very very close to the party location?" And the answer would be...so that the parties don't mess with our signature dinner nights. We are parties AND all 9 nights we can get of our deluxe dining. Our transfer day to POFQ will be spent checking out Dowtown Disney, and maybe using up any Deluxe Dining credits (or snack credits) since they'll be good until midnight that night. We may just feed ourselves the rest of our POFQ days on the candy we get from MNSSHP! :rotfl: (not totally kidding...if it's chocolate, I'm going to eat it!)

My Mom's actual birthday is in November, but with the deal we're getting it makes sense for us to go in September. Plus, the crowd calendar looks pretty good for September. I am just thrilled to be going to the Poly! And since we moved the dates, our trip is even sooner!

We booked a few months ago with a 40% off pin. We have GV but want GV CL and it has not been available, when is the best time to check again? Right at 45 days out or 46 days out? I assume that is when the remainder of the trip is due that people will cancel their reservations? or should I call sooner? ANyone have any lucky with this?

This is just me speaking here... but I would try every day, probably multiple times a day, depending on how much it actually meant to me. You never know when a spot might open up. pixiedust:

Has anyone on here rented a cabana yet? If so, how was the experience?

I'm just curious, I have one reserved for a half day in April. :) I think it will be lovely to lounge on one of the chaises and look at the pool. :cloud9:

Last yr the Poly IPO never contacted me, I contacted them. This yr they contacted me about two weeks ago maybe? My 180 mark is the 8th..I guess its hit or miss sometimes.

Has anyone ordered pizza to your room at the Poly before? I saw the ad in our room the last time we were there but we never tried it and I thought it might be a good idea for a quick dinner one of our days on our upcoming trip!

Thanks! Less than a month to go!! :cloud9:

If you order pizza, either order it from Room Service, or from a reputable pizza place (Dominos, Papa Johns, and Flippers all deliver to the Polynesian. All are good, but I recommend Flippers because you can get Dominos or Papa Johns anywhere, but Flippers is unique to Orlando ... and has good pizza). Do NOT order from any flyer that may have been slid under your door.

(For safety reasons, if you order pizza from Dominos/Papa Johns/Flippers, you will have to meet the delivery driver in the lobby of the Great Ceremonial House. They are not allowed to deliver directly to a room)

We ordered the room service pizza!! I would never do it again.. Terrible pizza that is delivered from a central unknown location on Disney property. To top it off it will cost you 2 dining points if you are on the dining plan.
We also ordered from pizza hut!! Yum! So I agree if you want pizza in your room order from an outside vendor.:thumbsup2

So true - DO NOT order from random flyers. I remember reading somewhere along the way that they were fake places on the flyers that were out to just take your credit card # over the phone & that's it. You don't want to be giving that out on vacation & having it compromised.

Quick torch lighting question!

I know this has been asked endless times before, but is the ceremony back to 6PM again? Anyone know?

I hadn't heard that it had changed! I'm curious to know as well, we are planning for March 26th.

I read something about them having to cut it a long time ago (like back in 2008) due to budget cuts, and I never really bothered looking into it again since I've never stayed there.

I assume it still happens then? :rotfl:

Yes it still happens, every night (except Sun & Mon) at 6:00 in the front lobby and outside the front doors. :thumbsup2
