ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Which longhouses are the newer ones? Are they any different than the others?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Tokelau, Rapa Nui, and Tahiti are the newer longhouses. The rooms are larger than the other longhouses. Each floor has either a patio or balcony. These rooms also have an extra padded chair for your comfort;) Some of the rooms have double sinks(again--just some--NOT all) and these longhouses are closer to the TTC. HTH:goodvibes

Thanks for the info! If I decide on the Poly I'm leaning towards a room in Tokelau. Does this longhouse have balconies on both the 2nd and 3rd floor? I know most don't have balconies on the second.

Yes, Tokelau has balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors and patios on the first floor. It's my favorite longhouse (but then again, it's because I've stayed there 3x :))

The newer buildings have two chairs?? No fair!!

I read something about them having to cut it a long time ago (like back in 2008) due to budget cuts, and I never really bothered looking into it again since I've never stayed there.

I assume it still happens then? :rotfl:

Oh, yes, we saw it in 2009. 6 pm. It's such a great, free thing, really gets us in the Polynesian mood, so we're doing it our first night (non park day) before hopping the monorail to CM's for dinner.

from tomorrow, we'll be checking in! DH started packing today :cool1:

I am so excited I can't stand it--how on earth am I going to be worth anything at work this week?

I'm planning on making the Poly itself a big part of this vacation, rather than just being our hotel. I've made ADRs for each restaurant at the Poly for one night, (still have several off site meals too) the kids are spending one evening at Neverland, we're doing the Luau on our last night.

I've been reading this thread and tikiman's site. We will definitely catch the torch lighting on Tuesday and be in the pool every afternoon, see the fireworks from our room, etc. What I'm wondering though, is what little things do I need to look for/do that will make it just that more of a Poly adventure? What have you done that you've loved? We have two 6 year old girls.

Thanks!

Oh Yeah! Love it! SSSOOOooo nice having 2 comfy padded chairs for chillin in the room. one for me, one for DH and the girls playing here and there around the room. When we eat bfst in the room, one DD sits on the sofa, one in the desk chair with the rolling table in between. Dh and I take the comfy chairs and share the ottoman as our "table". It's awesome:thumbsup2

Something fun to do is go tiki hunting. We had a lot of fun walking around the resort grounds looking for various tikis hidden in the bushes and checking out the carvings on the signs. The kids wanted pictures with quite a few of the tiki's sometimes mimicking poses, sometimes just pointing at them.

Mine are also huge into hidden mickeys, so they are constantly on the lookout for them. Make sure to look at rugs, walls, the painting in your room ;), and the various carvings and rocks along the walkways. Just a warning though, the hidden mickey hunt might become an obsession. Mine still find them in their cereal bowls, puddles on the ground, misc rocks, etc... Guess it's our way of keeping a little bit of Disney magic around at home. :thumbsup2

You guys are making it hard not to change my AKL/BC split stay to a Poly/BC stay or even just a Poly stay!! :rotfl: Oh my! I hate decisions.:upsidedow

I have a great price on a BC CL room though and it would be silly to give that up I think.

yayy. I'm planning on booking Poly for or fall disney trip. So excited! Hope to book this week.

A snowy day here in Pittsburgh has me Poly dreaming! I'm so ready for spring (ESPECIALLY May 19th!!!)

can someone post a pic of the fridge in the Poly? I am trying to figure out food I can order.

I booked the Poly today for Oct 4th - 9th! I have spent the last two hours reading this thread = and I am only on page 21. Lots of notes!

Its basically the size of a camper fridge, not really that big..Has two small shelf, and some room in the door.. By the way just a tip but keep the cabinet door open or the fridge over heats..

can 1/2 gallon milk fit in it? where can I buy milk on site? I am trying to figure out if I want the dining package or just eat b/f in the room everyday.

:welcome: Congrats on your first trip to the poly.. judging by where you have stayed In the past, you are In for a great treat! Transportation is a breeze atmosphere is awesome and the people are great! Let's not forget captain cooks it is open 24 hours (limited late night) pixiedust:

Thanks so much!!! I am ridiculously excited. We've never taken much advantage of resort amenities before because we spend so much time in the parks, but I feel like we are really going to enjoy spending time at the Poly this go round. Can't wait also for Tonga Toast, Dole Whips, and Lapu Lapus...so much to look forward to! :)

I have a question that I hesitate to ask because I really do like the Poly but on our last two stays the conditions of the room were a little rough. However, the time before that was ok. What I mean by rough is that the halls and rooms had a bit of damage. Water stains, wood that was chipped, the shower head was really low, tile looked like it needed a good cleaning and things were dusty and needed really wiped down (wall woodwork, switches, door knobs, counters, etc..) It was all minor repair stuff IMO and maybe just some better housekeeping and a bit of repairs. So my question is what were your rooms like on your last stay and which Longhouse were you in? Would we have better luck in one over the other? Can I call the resort and tell them about our past experience and would that help in anyway?

I honestly love the grounds, the pool, the ability to see the fireworks, the beach, the daybeds/room size and just the general feel of the resort but the room conditions are what I fear.
