ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Ok, I am new to this. This is my 4 yr old twins first visit and their birthday and we are staying @ the Poly for the first time.

I have been trying like mad to get a character dining reserv. at Ohana's for awhile now....my kids only want to see Lilo and Stitch.

Is there some secret? We aren't talking about Cinderella's Table.....just Lilo and Stitch....

Since we are staying at the resort, I would think we would have an opportunity.

Any thoughts?

My head is spinning.....trying to pull this all together. Help

Believe it or not, this ressie does seem to fill up quickly. When are you going? Is the trip coming up soon? You could always try and walk up...be there when the restaurant opens for breakfast:confused3 Keep trying...ya never know. People are always changing ressies.

Good Luck!

O.M.G. I could have written the same thing. I just can't stop second guessing our decision to try BLT this year after years of staying at the Poly CL.

I'm just a phone call away from changing our reservations ... I wake up thinking the Polynesian and it's music .......

I originally booked the YC to try somethong new and agonized over the decision... so worried that I would miss seeing the castle everyday.... Drove the family crazy, and finally called and changed to once again stay at the Poly. My son said its the only place he wants to stay at anyway so I am glad I finally made that call!!!

Last time we were there they did.

Tomorrow is my 180 days & I am turning over full control to IPO :scared1:
They did email me back to confirm they got my requests and I called and gave them my credit card # for the ressies that required it. Now I am hoping and praying that they make them and don't drop the ball.

Send me some Polynesian Pixie Dust my Poly Pals!!!:wizard:

We are well into our 180 days (going in July) and they still have come through for me. I've gotten everything that we asked for. My DH called today to give a cc#, and he was very complimentary of the CM. We've been dealing with Krystle and Amanda :). I feel pretty sure they must think I'm off my rocker because I've changed resorts, dinner plans, etc...but they are completely professional and have done a great job. I wouldn't worry, really. I'm very Type A, and I'm okay with it;).

The trip is coming in 2 weeks. I will definitely take your advice and try it.
Thank you.

Does the Poly have anything special for birthdays?

Has anyone fished from the Poly? I don't mean renting a boat or booking a charter, but fishing from the docks or beach or something.

Dh is determined to fish at Disney. He looked at the charters and they are WAY overpriced, in our opinions. So just wondering if there are any spots where he can fish from the Poly. He'll be bringing his own gear and obviously would be doing catch & release.

Ask in the CL Lounge and see if they have the seasonal Kona brews as well as the regular. I do enjoy the Longboard Lager, but last summer they had a Wahiamai Wheat, (I butchered the spelling of that), that was brewed with I think guava that was WONDERFUL! We can get Kona at the grocery store here, I highly reccomend it.:thumbsup2

They ask you at the podium if you are a resort guest, just say yes and flash your key to the world to prove it.. If you are staying at the Poly they will give you walk up priority. You still will have to wait, possibly a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally long time, but you still won't wait as long as a non-guest. Just grab a spork and a Lapu Lapu and enjoy the wait.

BreezysMom & I are right there with you! This is our first CL stay, so I will be anxiously hitting my email first thing in the morning looking for some confirmation emails! I know they occasionally don't come until later, but I'm hoping they'll all be there - ADR's and a couple of other special treats - so I don't have to keep obsessively checking my email all morning!

In my experience when eating at any table service restaurant at the resorts they never asked if we were staying at that specifc resort. A few years ago when we stayed at the Contemporary and went to Chef Mickey's for dinner without an ADR we still had to wait at least 40 - 50 minutes and they never gave us a walk up priority as guests of the Contemporary.

The only time I ever got asked if I was staying onsite was this past August at Tony's Town Square when I went there for dinner with some friends of mine from Orlando. However we also had an ADR so the fact I was staying onsite didn't matter.

Really? Every time we ate at at resort we were asked where we were staying. I specificly remember being asked both times at Ohana, (breakfast and dinner), and at Cape May at the Beach Club. I take that back, I don't think they asked us at Chef Mickey's or at the California Grill, but I know they did at the others.

Well to be fair it's been a long time since we went to a table service restaurant at the resorts that took ADR's so maybe it's something they recently starting doing as of 2010, because as I said before my friends and I was asked if we were staying onsite when we checked in for our ADR at Tony's Town Square. We have been multiple times to the Kona Island Sushi Bar which doesn't accept ADR's so it's first come first serve and won't ask if we are staying onsite. Anytime before that at 50's Prime Time Cafe, The Plaza or Liberty Tree Tavern we were only asked if we were on the Disney Dining Plan.

I am hoping all of that works because we weren't able to get an ADR for Ohana for our trip in May. Although I keep trying it isn't looking good. So I am hoping since we are staying at the Poly and even moreso staying CL that it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I don't mind waiting. :goodvibes

Usually the Club Level Cast Members can get last minute ADR's for restaurants located at the resort they are working at. I was told when they log onto the ADR system it can see exactly where they are doing it from. Now if worst comes to worst and they still can't you an ADR they would usually call the restaurant directly, tell them they are calling from the Club Level lounge and that usually gets things done.

I would also suggest trying everyday and if all else fails show up the morning of and ask to be a walk in. Also, FYI, there is another Restaurant just outside Ohana's called the Kona Cafe. Many times the characters can be seen coming and going. One year we just hung around outside O'hana's and the characters came up to us while we were waiting to be a walk in. Keep trying on line plus call each day. As someone above said people change their ressies all the time. You will not be sorry staying at the Poly. My kids are now in their 30's and it will always be their favorite.
Happy birthday to your little one. Make sure you tell them at the check in desk about the birthiday. Have a magical time!:dance3:

Awesome. Thanks. I will definitely give this a go when we arrive! :thumbsup2 I figure with only two people it shouldn't be too difficult... so here's hoping! pixiedust:

With just two people you shouldmnot have a problem with walk ups! When my wife and I go alone we get into any table service that we want. Except the ones that require a credit card guarantee.(people tend to show up for their reservations when they will be charged anyway!:lmao:)
I can't remember if you are the one that wanted to see stitch, but in MK future world there is a stage that stitch performs on.

I'm nearly positive that the only way you are allowed to fish at Disney is through one of the excursions. I found this when googling(note the 3rd full paragraph):
http://books.google.com/books?id=c5...ou fish at disney not on an excursion&f=false
