I am glad to hear that the pools at this time of year are not crazy, wall to wall crowded. We plan on using them every afternoon for a break.

I will post a report when we get back:yay:

Every cloud does have a silver lining! pixiedust: I bet this is a blessing in disguise

well we had to cancel our poly vacation due to family issues. we were supose to leave on sunday and arrive monday only a week away, but you gotta do what you gotta do.well hopefully everything gets straightend out and we can go during christmas.

Sorry to hear about the change of plans. Sure am believing with you that your family issues will be resolved quickly and with little disruption. Your vacation will be waiting for you and will be perfectly timed. :goodvibes All the best to your and your family. :flower3:

We just returned home after 10 days in Orlando. The first week off site at a 2 bedroom condo and then three days at the Poly. This was my first stay at the Poly since I was a kid in the early 70's when my parents took us there.

We had a tremendous 3 days. DD13, DD11 & DS8 loved the volcano pool and the entire Poly atmosphere (as did DW & I).

When we checked in we were initially assigned a GV 2 floor non balcony room. I inquired about the possibility of a balcony as with 5 of us and children going to bed earlier than DW & I a balcony would be a good place to relax for an hour or two before going to bed ourselves. Without any difficulty we were switched to FIJI 3302.:cool1: This room faces the Grand Floridan and it was a beautiful view.

The weather Saturday was hot, humid and sunny. The pool was busy but not overwhelmingly so. We were able to get a table on the upper patio a very short distance from the pool without any great difficulty. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Saturday night we went to HDDR and returned just in time to watch the fireworks from the beach. Again, there were people around but it didn't seem overly crowded. We sat on the sand directly in front of the pool.

On Sunday we went to HS first thing. It was a planned short stay. We rode Toy Story, RocknRoll, TT, StarTours watched the 11:30 HSM3 show and left. Again it was hot, humid and the place was packed.

We had lunch at Capt Cooks. It was good, quick service with no waiting, although timing is everything. Just after we sat down with our food a very large group of 20 or so people seemed to be in line. I'm assuming they had all arrived on one of the buses from a Park.

Unfortunately intermittent thunder (with very little rain) interrupted our use of the pools. So after lunch and briefly wandering around the resort & the arcade room we headed to Downtown Disney for a couple of hours.

A quick dip in the pool on our return rejuvenated us enough for our final night dinner at O'hana's. This was our first dinner there, although we've been to the character breakfast in the past.

The food was good & servicewas good and i have no real complaints about it. For our family though it was probably not worth the $$. I knew going in it was family dining (we experienced that at the character breakfast). It wasn't until i saw the quantity of food being delivered to our table and how little of it our family was able to actually eat (especially DS8 & DD 10) that I realized this probably wasn't the best choice for our family. I liked the food, I liked the atmosphere and DS8 LOVED the audience participation entertainment. Having said all of that I'll wait until the kids a much older (with bigger appetites) before we'll go back to Ohanas for dinner.

All in all we loved the Poly and can't wait to go back. If I can figure out how to download pictures I'll post a view from Fiji3302

Thanks so much for the update!!! I'm glad you had a great stay :)

Hi All,
I just thought of another question for you, LOL. How big is the in-room safe at the Poly? I was thinking about bringing my DSLR camera but we won't be taking it to the parks most days (I just want it for pictures around the resort). But I read on another thread that the safes are pretty small. Does anyone have a picture of one, or know if the DSLR camera will fit?
Thanks so much!!

Thx so much for the wonderful report of your recent stay at the Polynesian! My family will be staying there our first time in a little over two weeks! Thx for all your info, I would love to purchase one of those pictures as well.. :wizard:

An SLR camera will fit. I would say the safes are 15-18 wide and 6 inches high

Thanks so much!!! After seeing all the beautiful pictures of the Poly, I really want to try to get some good ones for myself with the DSLR. But I will probably only use it in the parks on the day we go to AK for the Wildlife Discovery Tour so I feel better knowing I can keep it in the safe in the room when it isn't being used.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything is ok with your family.

Unfortunately intermittent thunder (with very little rain) interrupted our use of the pools.

I've been to the Poly twice and GASP  I've never encountered thunder while I was there! (I've been there in late April/early May). So do they close the pools or did you opt not to use them?

:cool1:I am so excited! We check into the Poly tomorrow and I can't wait. :cool1:

I will post a report when we get back:yay:

Have fun and I can't wait to hear about your trip!

{{{{hugs}}}} I'm so sorry that you had to cancel this trip. But I will keep my finger's crossed that everything works out great for your Christmas trip. We visit DLR every year during the Christmas season and it is so magical!!!

I'm like "Get a GRIP people! This is the POLY for crying out loud!!!!!"
I tell people that this is MY vacation and I am going to the Poly. If that is out of their price range, they can stay somewhere else. I don't want to be 'guilted' into staying somewhere that I'm just not happy with so I know what you mean!

Every pool around WDW will close if thunder is heard. Lifeguards will clear everybody out. I can't remember at what point they allow everybody back in and I don't know if anybody comes out to clear out the pool if the thunder is heard after the lifeguards have gone off duty for the night or before they start in the morning.

I'm so excited. I just booked my first stay at the Polynesian. We were originally booked at POFQ for our whole 11 nights but we just upgraded our last 3 nights to a Poly GV CL room. :woohoo::cool1::banana:

I'm really enjoying reading about Poly. It's my dream resort so I can't wait to try it out!!

So sad! :sad2: We may have to cancel our September Poly CL trip. DH is just getting too busy with his job. It makes me sad but mad too because I could've booked for a different time. I should've known being a navy wife this long that it would probably not happen. I just hoped we could take advanatage of the military discount again. We'll find out next week, which is cutting it short to purchase the military tickets but we'll have to wait. I'm really annoyed also that we can't purchase the military tickets after July 30th. I mean we can use them until the end of September but have to buy them now. Oh well.

That's a compromise?:scared1:

I might compromise for the WL (which I did for Dear Old Dad) or Carribean Beach (still tropical!) Oh well, at least you are staying in WDW!

Just booked our room for March!

I am eagerly awaiting the rates for next year now. Also praying that there is a discount like there was last year. We got the 40% off and it was the only way that it made our vacation affordable.

I also have decided not to do the dining plan this time. Simply too much food. We never really want to order dessert and you are kind of forced to on the plan. I wish they offered a plan where you could choose to have an appetizer or dessert. THAT i could get down with.

Ever so slightly OT, but you might be surprised about the DSLR. Our trip last month was my first taking it, and I thought I wouldn't use it that much, but the pics were so awesome that I decidedto try it a few park days. I got a really cute sherpani bag that just fit it, put my poncho at the bottom of the bag to cushion it, and I really didn't notice it when I wan't using it. Never felt to heavy or in the way. I'm definitely a convert to taking it with me, I'll never again do a trip without it- of course, ymmv. I did take my bags on all the rides with me, incl ToT, EE, SM, etc. it really didn't cause as much bother as I thought it would.

Sorry, back to the regularly scheduled thread.:rolleyes1

Have fun and I can't wait to hear about your trip!

We have been several times during stormy weather--they do close the pool when lightning is within 10 miles--we asked at the water parks last year, and they said they monitor this. We heard thunder many times before they eventually closed the pool/s. Just this past Sunday (11th) we heard thunder for a good 20-30 minutes before the lifeguards closed the pool. Fortunately, we had to get out anyway and get dressed for the plane ride home:guilty:

I always say I don't want to take my DSLR with me every day, but I always do. I just know I'd regret not having it on the one day I left it behind. I did, however, leave the large zoom lens in the safe this whole trip. The safe had plenty of room.
