ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

But Hawaii is the club level building isn't it? If I was reading the other poster she has a TPV not a club level. I have the same level booked and am curious as well which longhouse has the best view of the castle and MK, if the lower floors have less of a view than 3rd floor, etc, etc

Thanks!

plazajane asked about all of the TPV longhouses including Hawaii. I simply gave her my preference of those about which she inquired. Of the non-CL TPV longhouses, I prefer Tahiti, 3rd floor. Everyone will have their own favorites for a variety of reasons. :thumbsup2

We are planning an upcoming trip to the Poly in June and I was wondering how far of a walk is it to TTC (for a trip to Epcot) or is it better to take the monorail there? How long is the path? Our children are 7 so they should be able to walk a little but may be tired later on in the day.

Also has anyone stayed at Tahiti or Rapa Nui? Do all the rooms have balconies in these longhouses? how far is the distance to the boat launch? walk to TTC from there? Are they too far from pool and ceremonial house?

Thanks.

The TTC is located right next to the Poly, but it all depends on which longhouse you get as far a distance goes. The monorail is a strange duck as far as traveling to Epcot from the Poly. There is one line that goes only from the TTC to Epcot. one line that just goes from MK to TTC back and forth and one line that does the resort loop. so with that said, if you take the resort monorail to get to the TTC you will have to travel around the entire resort area, stopping at GF then MK then CR and finally you are back at TTC, then get off and catch the other train for Epcot. not bad if you are just too tired to just walk back from the TTC to your room. but in my opinion walking back from the TTC is so relaxing and beautiful that we dont notice the distance. :love:The other way is uhhhm hectic especially if the monorail is full and your standing with your little ones.

boat launch.. there is two boat launches. one big one that leaves from the TTC and another at the Poly. so really no matter where your longhouse is, the walk to a boat launch is nothing.

I do not have an answer to the balcony question. I know that someone here does!!:thumbsup2

Rapa Nui and Tahiti both have balconies or patios on all floors. The walk from either to TTC is not far at all. Both are also fairly close to the bus stop and a short walk to the GCH as well. The quiet pool will be closer than the volcano pool, but neither is a ridiculously long walk AND the walk is gorgeous!

The Polynesian property is not sprawling like some of the other resorts. You are never very far from anything at any of the longhouses. Tahiti and Rapa Nui are quiet and feel removed from the activity, but they truly are not. :yay:

I am having one of those blah winter days and just had to post to see my countdown. Now I am going to read back a few pages to see some of those great pictures that have been posted lately!

Just had to come here and.....

:woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay::cheer2::cheer2:

....happy dance! Because I am booked for Oct 1st-9th 2011 in Garden View Club Level :cloud9:

I'm happy now, but this reservation took wayyy too much agrivation and time spent on the phone with Disney reservations centre!! (I received a special offer email with no PIN for up tp 40% off and was accused of lying because the email had no PIN. I eventually found the solution myself [look under an old address] but it was a frustrating experience).

Congratulations on finally getting the discount! We are there at the same time, but won't be at the Polynesian. During F&W, we prefer the EPCOT resorts area so it is easier to waddle home. :rotfl:

At which venue is the wedding for which you are serving as MoH? We saw so many weddings around EPCOT last year during F&W. Then again, I've seen my fair share while staying at the Polynesian and the GF as well .

The venue is the Wedding Pavilion, and I believe she wants to hold her reception at the Grand Floridian. She is officially booking in Feb :goodvibes as she is doing the Escape wedding and can only book 8 months out. I am so excited to not only be attending, but to be involved in a DFTW!

I haven't seen this anywhere and need to ask before hauling my double stroller up a few flights of steps!

I assume they do but CBR does not have them. Thanks!

Yes for Samoa, and I think most other longhouses but I'm sure someone else can confirm. And nearly as great as elevators for strollers - the automatic sliding doors!! Love them! :)

And for those who asked about location, here's our take: With kids, it's easier for us to be near GCH than TTC. Now, we used TTC plenty because we like the direct monorail to Epcot and have most of our dinners there. And we don't think TTC is far from any Poly longhouse - just a nice leisurely walk. But it was nice to be near GCH so that everything there was close - especially when one of us would stay back at the room and the other would run out to get something. Having Captain Cook's for refill mug coffee or soda, a late night snack, airline check-in on departure day, etc. was really nice. And because the volcano pool was so close, we were the crazy people out there at 6am before our flight left earlier this month!

I tend to be a "glass half full" person, so if I got a longhouse near TTC next time, I would probably be telling you why that is great. So I don't think there is a bad location, but I really liked being close to GCH for this last trip.

Just purchased airfare today. So dreaming of our LV room in July because of all the dreary cold weather...

Yes all longhouses have elevators. But it's not hard to get a first floor room.:thumbsup2

Hi everyone... we're back from our Poly CL stay and it was wonderful as expected for the most part.

First I've read several asking about the quiet pool rehab that was supposed to be under way as of now and so far nothing is going on. People were swimming and it was fully set up, no signs of construction or even work being done.

We stayed GV CL, put in a request for 1st or 3rd floor (same routine as last time) and this time ended up on the 1st floor, room 1502. We quickly realized this room wasn't the ideal location for us as we were the complete opposite end of the lounge and we like to spend a lot of time there, lesson learned. We also realize that 2nd or 3rd floor (even giving up that extra patio/balcony space) is much more suited to us, we didn't like walking past the main lobby area to get back to to the room. As for the room itself, this one was definitely in need of work, there was ripped wallpaper as soon as you walked in, the toilet ran unless you jiggled and lifted the handle, and when they replaced the shower heads the new caps for the part that meets the wall doesn't cover the big hole where the pipe goes into the wall so it just looks like shoddy workmanship. We also noticed that the sheets weren't changed on the daybed when we opened it and there was a muddy shoe print on the bed, quickly resolved by a call to mouse keeping but was kind of icing on the cake in our realization we weren't as excited about the room this time. Mousekeeping and turndown were much earlier this time for us though usually done by 11 & 6 where when we were 3rd floor near the lounge were always very late (3:30ish and 7:30-8). Overall mousekeeping was great but one day dropped the hairdryer and left it running !! all day and one day left the toilet running, frustrating, but not deal breakers, and they always replaced our soaps, toiletries and left extra towels etc so overall did a decent job in the room.

Ok frustrations out of the way :thumbsup2 the lounge service was fantastic. The menu was the same as it has been but we spent quite a bit of time chatting with people there and found out that Kim will be rolling out a new menu starting on Feb 8th. The other chef will be on leave for 16 days so during that time the staff will be training on the new items (lounge and concierge staff will start sampling them on 02/02). She has a few new salads planned (I recall an asparagus star salad which sounded delish), and some hand rolled meatballs in a homemade sauce, she was running through a bunch of things that just sounded like a great refresh to the CL evening food offerings. I didn't ask about an update to the mornings since she is only there from 2:00 on, and this time they had white cheddar popcorn out along with the standard afternoon fare (popcorn was never there in Aug).

We also finally got to see the torch lighting ceremony, that was fantastic and left my kids awestruck (and us with the speech that your not supposed to eat or play with fire, its dangerous :lmao: ). Ohana was closed for most of our stay but because of this Lilo and Stitch did character meet & greets each morning from 8-11 outside in that area. We loved stopping by each day and saying hello, playing games, etc because no one was in GCH until 8:45ish, so you had unlimited character interaction, lots of fun!

Monorail and ferry service were perfect, no delays, and just before opening each day it seemed like monorails were coming back to back. On Weds we literally watched 3 different ones come in the span of 6 minutes while making coffee at Kona and we finally got on the 3rd one (no one was left to get on at the GF stop at 8:50 :lmao: ). The kids were disappointed there are no more monorail/transportation cards but did get the scoop it was because they are being revamped and the new monorail color (we had fun speculating the whole trip) is being added to the batch and once the new monorail comes out the next set of cards will too.

Park crowds were what we expected for Jan, and following TGM sticking with green parks each day we had fairly light crowds.

Overall it was a great trip and outside of a few minor room issues we had a great time. The Poly was beautiful and as relaxing as always, to the point we were arguing with 2 of my kids to stay in the parks because all they wanted to do is go back to the resort. They love it there as much as we do!

Dizneechic...sounds wonderful! Can't wait for our trip in two weeks. How was the weather? Looking forward to the Torch Lighting too! Where is it held?

What happens at the torch lighting exactly?

Well if you ask the ladies... They gather in the front of the GCH and a story of the traditional lighting of the torch is told. It is a loud and joyous drum beating affair. Then this young Hawaiian stud comes out clad in nothing but his grass skirt and with his Bataan of fire, twirling away.. And then he lights the tiki torches in front of the GCH.. Magically all torches on property are lit! :cool1::thumbsup2:yay:

The weather was fab for the most part, 75ish, hit 80 on our last day. :lovestruc We did have one day at 64 and torrential rain in which we attempted to do WS in Epcot and there was no one around and nothing going on... it left the shops and buildings wide open for easy browsing! ;)

What happens at the torch lighting exactly?

Carl answered perfectly above for that. :thumbsup2 Just wanted to add it starts in the GCH right in front of the fountain with an announcement of whats about to happen and then the hot young stud leads you out to the sidewalk outside and does his schtick. Along with the fire twirling he put the fire in his mouth and lights the other end of his torch with it (the part my kids were awestruck over and led to our conversation).

Lucky Duck! I thought I was going to be able to slip in a quick trip at the end of June because Delta dropped the fares to $128 p/p. Of course, when you over-think it, the offer can be changed--sadly, it was.

I had it all lined up with a stay at Swan for the four of us and we couldn't decide how long to stay and then were worried our soon to be graduating college student might have other things going, yadayadayada. By the time we got back to booking--phhhtttttt. . .airfare was back up again. :headache: Guess someone is trying to tell me something about a June trip. :lmao:
