ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I'll come here and muse (and see my ticker)...

It's funny how -- even though we've never stayed at Poly (or anywhere at Disney for my hubby and daughter) -- I'm already feeling Poly-indoctrinated due to you Poly-fanatics. ;) I did get a slight twinge of "What if I don't like it? what if THEY don't like IT?!" earlier but I'm sure it's due to the vacation getting nearer. I'm getting this strange feeling like I'm going to forget something; it's TWO weeks away. Yikes.

Anyway, Happy Friday Poly Freaks -- and I say that with the nicest of intentions! ;)

Also, Happy Labor Day (our lovely 3-Day Weekend) to the Americans in the thread. :goodvibes

For anyone that has returned recently, did you happen to notice the prices for a beer or a bottle of rum in the 2nd floor gift shop?

I can't remember from our last trip. I've decided I'm not going to do a grocery delivery but we still want some libations to take back to the room and hopefully pay a little less than the bar prices :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I didn't notice the beer or rum, but I did purchase a bottle of Magicale (awesome) from there. I had a glass at the bar for $11 (bar price for the whole bottle was $49). But in the gift shop, the same bottle was $21.50.

does polynesian offer free upgrade to better rooms?

All the rooms other than the suites are all the same (except a few with double sinks or some with a little more square footage).

It is the location or concierge access that would be the "better room"~

...and yes, it does happen occasionally

Have an awesome first trip, I'm so excited for you, just slow down and enjoy all of your surroundings throughout your trip, every corner of WDW is to be cherished!

Dh and I sitting watching lady and the tramp we got the rescuers and aristocats today from the library to watch in anticipation of arriving at Wdw next weekend! I find it adorable that he loves Disney as much as I do!

There are all these threads going around about checking the beds for bedbugs. Call me naive, but I had never heard of bedbugs until a few weeks ago. Has anyone here checked their beds for bedbugs at the Poly? Were you able to unhook that huge headboard, check behind it, and place it back in place?

Thanks!

A 500ml bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum was approx $13.00 when we there in July. I believe that Bacardi was the same price.

When we get there, I'll take a look. Regardless of where a person is staying, it looks as though a little proactive detective work is in order, just to be on the safe side.

OMGoodness! Windy and 55 tonight in Michigan. I do LOVE hoodie weather and it sure is adding to the anticipation. 4 more days!! :upsidedow

Pulled out my Poly hoodie last weekend!!

Also, just met our new neighbors, and they're also Samoan!! She came over and said "I'm so glad to see another Poly!!!" :rotfl: Made my day!!! Thought you guys might appreciate that. ;)

Hi All :goodvibes I am so embarrassed to admit this.....but I am re-thinking my resort choice AGAIN. I am currently booked at Beach Club Lagoon View Club Level room from Feb 5-10. I was pricing things out again, and with the current discount, could get a room at the POLY club level/GV for $200.00 cheaper! There are many plusses I see to the POLY: monorail, fireworks from the cl lounge/beach, VOLCANO pool, tiki-lit paths, great CS options etc....
I am at a standstill....thinking perhaps we should change our reservation to the POLY. It is just my son and I going on this trip (he's 14).....I think the things he really cares about are a good arcade, and a good pool! :rotfl:
oh, and a good Club level lounge....a teen boy has a never-ending pit for a stomach!
I think the Beach Club has a great pool in SAB....but the POLY also has a fun pool with the Volcano slide (most important thing: AWESOME SLIDE!) and more of a tropical/fun theme .... so the choice is NOT hinging on just the pool....
I could use some of your input Poly Lovers....do you think the POLY would offer us a relaxing, fun, unforgettable stay???
:goodvibes

When comparing the Polynesian to the Beach Club I personally think they have a better theme, plus another factor would be having access to the Resort Monorail and the walkway to the TTC.

I am no help. :rotfl: Those are my two favorite resorts!! I love the atmosphere of BC, but I also feel so serene at the Poly! I would just stay where you didn't stay last time (if it was either of these resorts). If you stayed elsewhere, uhhhh...flip a coin. :thumbsup2 Of course, this year, everything's coming up Poly!!! ;) At least for us. :)

The decision may have been taken out of my hands......I read Tikiman's site and it looks like the Volcano Pool may be out of commission during my stay in FEB....the pool is the most important consideration, there HAS to be one, :lmao: ..... if this is the case, BC will be our best bet!
I wouldn't want to stay at the POLY and not be able to experience the amazing Volcano Pool!!!

ETA: WHEW!! I must have mis-read....it's the EAST pool that's slated to be closed, not the VOLCANO pool, this makes the POLY still in the running !! LOL.....off to read more!

There's also the sea raycers ... you will get a discount coupon with your travel documents if you book a package and I think DS may be able to drive one himself? Someone else can probably verify that.

Well, we just switched our ressie last night from WL to the Poly!! I'm so excited. We've never stayed there so I'm really looking forward to it! I have to go back and read this thread but just wanted to say hi!! :yay:
