ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Reading thru this thread makes me sooooo excited to be finally staying at the Poly! Only 37 more days til check-in. I will probably cry once we get there. We have been to Disney so many times and this is the one resort I've dreamed of staying in but never have.
I'm debating whether to call and put a request in for Tokelau or if I should wait and see where they decide to put me. Would it be a big ordeal for the castmember at check-in to try to move my room if I asked politely? I know it can get busy and I don't want to hold up the line.

When we stayed at the Poly last Sept we turned the knob in our fridge all the way to 1 (coldest setting) because it wasn't cold when we arrived. After 2 days, our large bottles of juice and milk had turned into slushies! It can freeze lol, trust me :lmao:

We always end up with a few beer slushies after a couple of days in the fridge. The items in the rear tend to freeze when the fridge is full.

Yeah we had frozen yogurt-- solid-- after our first night. As the fridge emptied, no more froyo.

On another note: Mmmmm... beer slushies... [/homerjsimpson]

Thanks for the replies! I can't wait to see what slushie creations are in store for me and my little fridge! :)

When we were there in July the knob on our refrigerator was missing (you could see that it looked like someone pulled the knob off and you could no longer change the temperature), we called maintenance about it and they told us all the refrigerators are like that because they don't want people changing the temperature. :confused3

I tried for nearly 10 days to get water bottles to freeze and they never did, things were cold, but certainly not frozen or anywhere near frozen. I think we got a bad refrigerator, because I've never known them to take knobs off so you can't change the temp before.

It didn't really matter as long as nothing spoiled and everything was cold we were fine, but so many people had frozen water bottles in the parks I was wondering how they got them to freeze!

Add to packing list: 1 Pair, Needle Nose Pliers... Check! :rotfl:

Let me say that I am a CLEAN freak and I like things shiny and new. So it always BOGGLES me when people say that the Poly looks outdated, old, or not taken care of. I have not found that to be the case. The decor to me SCREAMS Polynesian, not slick city hotel but it is clean, fun, and wonderfully themed. And it certainly is cleaner than Tahiti where they have dirt floors in the grocery stores with bugs roaming around (ok, I like Hawaii much better than Tahiti - I'm talking the REAL Hawaii and Tahiti by the way!). What am I missing here???? I can't for the life of me figure out why people say this. I've traveled to 30 countries and have seen OUTDATED hotels but not the Poly :confused3

Ok, enough of that!

They assign the rooms a few days in advance so yes, I would call and make a room request. There are not always rooms to move you into if you don't like the one you are at so just be aware of that!

We arrive in 37 days too! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Just guessing here, but for some I believe it is the colors that give off the "outdated" vibe. That's not my view--I say in keeping with the theme, but others have a differing view. :confused3

Those of you that get a packnplay or crib while at the poly, where is the best place in the room to put it where it's not going to get in the way?

Hello strangers! :goodvibes Even though we're staying at the AKL our next trip, we're planning a night for dinner at 'Ohana and EWP/fireworks from the beach. We also wanted to catch the torchlighting cermony...can someone confirm if memory serves correctly that he is out Tues-Sat at 6:00pm? Thanks, and I hope everyone is well!

Right in front of the door to the adjoining room. Between the wall and desk. Perfect spot :)

Anyone have a copy of the movies being shown in September? What time are movies usually played? will the same movies be shown in October? Thanks!

I have stayed at plenty of WDW resorts, but the POLY is the only one that brings tears to my eyes when i get there-i think it's because i am already sad to leave it!!!!:sad2:

For anyone that has returned recently, did you happen to notice the prices for a beer or a bottle of rum in the 2nd floor gift shop?

I can't remember from our last trip. I've decided I'm not going to do a grocery delivery but we still want some libations to take back to the room and hopefully pay a little less than the bar prices :thumbsup2

Thanks!

IIRC a BIG can of Heineken was about $6.00. That was from Captain Cooks I think. :goodvibes

I know that's really no help, but I feel like I'm going through post withdrawal, the posts that I subscribe to have been dead the past couple of days :confused3... So, since I had beer related information, I figured what the heck

Thanks!

At BC last fall it was $36 for six-16 oz Bud Lights. :scared1: You may want to rethink the grocery delivery. I wouldn't want to guess the price of liquor.
