Aloha Isle Crisis!!!!

Oh, gotcha. Well I will be there in a couple weeks so if no one reports it's back before then, I'll give an update. :)

I was told Gaston's Tavern had the cinnamon roll now, is that not true?!

The one at MSB was fresh - they had these huge trays of cinnamon rolls and they'd scoop it put right in front of you. They were hot and the icing would melt on top. It tasted like it was made literally 20 minutes go.

The one at Gaston is good but far from the original. It tastes like it was pre-made - it was - and sometimes it tastes a little "stale." The icing doesn't melt on top and it tastes more like a packaged icing (like you'd get with the toaster streudels) than freshly made icing.

So, while they still have the cinnamon roll, nothing compares to the original. The original was fresh and homemade and this one is pre-made and delivered, I believe. I think it's a lot like Dunkin Donuts. They used to make the donuts on-site. You'd go at 8am for coffee and a fresh donut. Now they make them, freeze them, and deliver them to the stores. They heat them up in the store and sell em',

I really hope they bring the swirl back...it's the only way I have ever ordered my Dole Whips since my first trip back in 1985! It's my original favorite Disney treat from my childhood!!

I didn't know anything about this change until we showed up at Aloha Isle today for a pineapple / vanilla swirl float only to be told there was no more vanilla, only pineapple whip. It's not on the menus at all either. I asked the CM why and she said vanilla / swirl was taken off the menu in California so they had to do the same here. Seems odd and obviously it's not what others have been told by Guest Relations but that is what she said. It didn't sound like it was the first time she had been asked about it either. I can confirm that Sunshine Tree Terrace still have vanilla and citrus / vanilla swirl.

Thanks for this info Moosha!

When I go next month I think I'll grab a cup of pineapple juice from Aloha Isle then head over to sunshine tree terrace and ask them to add vanilla soft serve... desperate times call for desperate measures!
I'm pretty sure you can just order the dole whip float at sunshine terrace!

Yes, I contacted Guest Services and they said they had received a number of complaints and would be bringing the swirl back - although she couldn't say when. I asked why they had removed it from the menu and she said it was an attempt to cut down the lines??? Not quite sue what that means.. Does it take longer to make the swirl or is it just to give people fewer choices? I am glad to hear it is available at the POLY!

Cut down the lines to having no lines at all after people walk away. I think the choice is easy. lol.

That (and a few of the other excuses) sounds kind of odd. Someone else said it was because their parent store (outside of Disney) did it???

In March, Sunshine Terrace had no pineapple soft-serve or juice. They had orange, and possibly vanilla. I don't know if they will get the pineapple back, because they are in a smaller location now (old Aloha Isle spot).

That's the classic dole whip isn't it? Vanilla and pineapple?

No. Classic Dole Whip is pineapple only. I don't think they originally had the pineapple juice at WDW either. However, that was when I was a kid, and I'm too old to remember it very well. The Dole Plantation in Hawaii is the original and only has pineapple soft-serve and pineapple juice.

It's weird that they took it off the menu. We went in March, and Aloha Isle, in the new location next to Tiki Room, had both pineapple and vanilla, including swirl and floats with pineapple juice. I remember, because I had to order a swirl abomination for DH:rolleyes2 I like the plain pineapple. I ordered my first float then too. It was awesome. I wouldn't get one for the longest time, because they are so sticky:crazy2: Aloha Isle was packed and really disorganized. I guess due to the move and possibly hiring new CMs. Maybe they removed the vanilla until things calm down.

Pineapple Lanai at Poly had both flavors, swirl, and floats too. Sunshine Terrace only seemed to have orange, no pineapple, and maybe vanilla. I didn't pay very close attention, because I don't like the orange.

I have not had a Dole Whip, but I am very interested in trying it after all of the raving reviews. Question: Dole also makes the pineapple frozen yogurt (dairy free) at Orange Leaf. Is this the same stuff? Is there anyone that has had both that can compare.

You can?? Or was that a joke that just went way over my head?? :duck:

I had a vanilla dole whip float in Feb at Sunshine Terrace (the old spot) and from Moosha's quote just assumed you could still get it there (didn't realize they don't have pineapple juice there anymore)! :earboy2: I'll be in Disney again next weekend so I'll definitely check out what the latest flavors/options are. :-) I'm going to be so disappointed if I can't get my float since I don't have time to go to the Poly.

I don't think Disney releases what is the most popular. I never got the sense that the swirl was the most popular. People seem to generally talk about a Dole Whip not the specific way they order it.

I know everyone I have ever seen order gets the pineapple.

The hyped up item that everyone raves about is the actual float, but it became referred to as just a 'dole whip' despite that being an item on it's own without the juice.
The vanilla soft serve and the pineapple juice combo was the one that was 'popular' and 'must-have'.

I would just go to both Sunshine and Aloha. They are not far from each other. Maybe Aloha will have vanilla back by then.
