Almost ready to take the plunge

OK so I think I have it straight but want to be sure - please advise:

1) I can make reservations starting 11 months to the day for my home resort

2) I can make reservations starting 7 months to the day for the other current DVC resorts (HH/VB/BCV/BWV/VWL/OKW) - whether SSR and or Eagle Pines are part of DVC or not is to be determined in the future

3) I should have a Use Year ideally that either matches or is at most 2-3 months prior to the month I intend to vacation

4) I should buy at the resort that I like the best - if it is a close tie and I plan to vacation twice and I can afford it then buy two contracts - one for each resort

5) If I do not plan to vacation at DVC this calendar year and my intended vacation for 2004 is within the 7 or 11 month window then I should go for MB assuming BCV is my #1 choice as per 4) above

6) OK HERE IS THE BIG ONE - should I tell DW in advance or after the fact as a surprise - I know this is a subjective question but al answers appreciated

I think you've got it, except that use year is really not that big of a deal unless you forsee cancelling more than rarely.

On your last point, I think you should both be aware of the purchase and in total agreement, as it is a pretty big investment, and you can both take credit for your excellent decision making Plus, it's fun to make the call and celebrate together!

hmm.... well if my dbf bought DVC and surprised me, i'd be pretty happy.
except i'm the bigger Disney freak, and i'd already know about DVC and know that i thought it was a good idea.

if i bought DVC and surprised my dbf, he'd be kind of annoyed that i didn't include him in the final decision.

this is a big ticket item! so if your DW normally likes to know ahead of time about big purchases, then tell her before you do it.

as for everything else, you've practically quoted a bunch of things from the official Product Understanding Checklist so looks like you understand everything pretty well!

It is because of this board and helpful people like yourself disneyberry that I was able to pull together my "key point checklist" before plunging into this.

When I called MS and gave the member name who referred me originally sometime ago, they said they like to have the same guide who dealt with them deal with me - the name (and excuse my spelling) is Byron Egleson - does this ring a bell with anyone? I have not spoken to him yet as he was on tour - awaiting my call back.

I vote to tell in advance. On My first purchase it was a surprise and boy what a big blowout surprise to me. Therefore on the addon it was our decision.

All is Disney Heaven now but the first few months (until we went home) was not.
