How do you even know it _WAS_ her husband? I mean, after he RAN out, the housekeeper didn't even give any information as to who it was. The original poster had to ask who it was. I have to go back and read, but did the OP mention the housekeeper's reaction? Was she apologetic? Scared? Did you at least get some good towel animals out of the deal


I don't think it is uptight to have cetain boundaries within a room that you are paying for and that contains your personal items.
This is an interesting thread indeed.

Well the big deal is you pay for your room for your use, not to be a break room for the WDW staff. If it had been me, I'd immediately have reported it to the front desk. I don't mind the housekeeper (sorry mousekeeper has always been just a little too cute for me) being in my room to do her job, but when someone else is in there that shouldn't be, I get very uncomfortable.

I think it is crystal clear your hotel room is not to be a WDW staff break room, I'm just saying haven't we all done something a little unauthorized from time to time. It all sounded pretty innocent to me, nothing stolen etc., no harm done. I don't see the point in stringing this couple up. As another poster said, I'm sure they have a very low paying job as it is, so he stopped in to say hi, that is what I don't think is a big deal. It's not like the staff had party day set up in their room.

I have to agree with the posters leaning toward the no harm done side.....Yes they broke the rules...but I know I have once or twice broken a policy at work; probably would have been embarassed if I was caught and wouldn't have been sure how to explain the situation.....

So, if nothing was missing....I think I would have left the maid to tend to her job....I don't see how getting somebody fired would have made you feel any better.....

Yeah, we pay lots for the rooms at WDW but I always look to give the blue collar workers a little more compassion because of the jobs they have tend to be hard work at low pay....usually this just means going out of my way to say Hello or thank you but it could also mean ignoring a awkward situation such as you described...

I'll bet that the fact that they got away with this did one of 2 things: either...

1) they realized the risk they took and never tried that again,

or

2) getting away with it, they did it again and maybe got caught by someone who DID report them.


While at WL for our 25th anniversary, my parents sent a flower arrangement. The CM who delivered it did so while DH and I were sitting out on the balconey, and we all got a bit shaken up when we saw each other. He probably knocked and we didn't hear him, so he assumed the room was empty. I was always bothered by this, considering the variety of circumstances under which we might not hear the door. But not bothered enough to make a big deal about it.

Stuff like this just makes for a good story, if no harm is done.

This is too funny! We had a similar (sort of) event happen to us at the Hard Rock Hotel in September! As the bellperson was opening the door for us I thought that it sounded like the TV was on in the room. When he opened the door there was a man lying on one of the beds watching TV! The bellperson tried to cover for him and said something like, "Oh, I see you're just finishing up in here." The guy looked really embarrased and grabbed a spray bottle and rag and walked out quickly. When we entered the room (and I don't know how to put this pleasantly...) it smelled as if the man had spent some time in the bathroom.

My family has a good sense of humor and we all just started laughing about it and I still think it's a funny story to tell. However, I remember thinking if this had happened after we had checked in and our belongings were in the room we might not have taken it so lightly. But as I saw it, no harm was done. The guy just wanted to take a break and use the bathroom. Who hasn't?

How do you really know that he was her husband? Just because she said so. I think I would of reported the incident. The door should not of been closed. Just my opinion.

This really upsets me. I am heading to AKL in 4 weeks. I am a VERY paranoid person and the fact that he got up and ran out of the room really bugs me. I could not have stayed in the room one more second. I would definatley have reported it and requested a room change. i know it sounds like it was just a married couple catching a quick hello but why was he sitting on the balcony and not talking to his wife? Now every time we leave our room I'm going to be wondering if someone unauthorized is in our room. I guess the saying "Ignorance is Bliss" would fit here!

Hmmm...something doesn't seem right. If I were visiting my dh, I would have been embarrassed that we were "caught" talking (or whatever!) to each other, but I would have been polite to you, apologized for being there and quickly explained that I was the housekeeper's wife and was just chatting with him. I would then say sorry about that, enjoy your stay, laughed and left.

The fact that he ran out makes me wonder what was going on.

On the other hand, I don't want to see anyone get fired either, so I probably would not say anything to AKL about it.

Sorry, I was at the AKL alone with my 2 boys and this situation would have had me freaked, mostly because the man ran out of the room. But, I am not sure how I would have handled it If I would have called my DH he would have called management for me no if's ands or but's.

I am usually very laid back but under this circumstance I would have been less than pleased. DH would have had a fit!!! It would be different if he was standing and helping her but just sitting there lounging in my room would not be appreciated!

I am almost postive he was in an AKL uniform and was wearing a name tag. He left so quickly it was hard to tell. (oh, also, I know I said he "ran" out, but it was more of a very fast walk--I was sort of using a figure of speech, but he certainly did get out of there as fast as he could!) I think one thing that made me feel like it wasn't such a big deal is that the housekeeper kept working on the room. If she had felt at all guilty I think she would have quickly finished up and hurried out herself!! The man was sitting at the table right near the sliding glass door (inside the room, not on the balcony) and one of our back packs was right on the table next to him. I almost wish he had rifled through that bag, because all it contained at that moment was my sons' little toilet seat that fits on top of the big seat! LOL!! Imagine his surprise if he had found that! Anyway, our digital camera and video camera were still there, in our luggage that was unlocked (since the in-room safe was only big enough for a wallet, and a small wallet at that---very annoying) so I am pretty sure he was not a thief. If he was, he was a bad one!! The whole thing is kind of amusing in retrospect, but when I first opened that door, I was very shocked and wishing I had my pepper spray (that was also in the luggage--brought it in case I ventured off by myself some night). I don't think anyone who is staying at AKL needs to worry about this--I would hazard a guess that they won't be trying it again anytime soon, and probably spent the day wondering if I was going to report them.

Side note; I was told never to carry pepper spray across state lines because of the differing laws of other states. Some states it is illegal to carry it.
