Alligators?

Here's a great question from my 18yo DS..... How often do they spot or have to remove an Alligator from WDW canals/lakes/waterways? Any ideas?

I think he's thinking that a good push in the one of canals would be a great prank to play on his brother

HOWEVER I told him that there is the possibility that there could be an alligator in one of them. He doesn't believe it! He said he wouldn't want to have his brother get eaten, just wet.

Oh teenagers are sooo fun!

I know they are everywhere But the Bigger thing is the bacteria that is in the water Thats why they don't let you swim in the waterways.

Tell him to come to South Florida...it's alligator mating season right now and we've been seeing "captures" on the news almost everyday. A friend of mine went to Naples this weekend and said they saw a lot of them on the side of the highway (not sure if they were dead or alive)....

Speaking of gators....There was a big alligator spotted in the neighborhood right next to ours the day before yesterday. (BTW-We're a little over an hour away from WDW-South/East of there). Anyway, All of the lakes near us are connected....so I wouldn't be surprised if he made his way over to the lake in our back yard through the pipes one of these days. (From what I've heard from others it Has happened before!) My dd's Love(d) (Notice Past tense!) to play out by "our lake". I am totally freaked out about this sighting cause those gators can be MEAN! I can't imagine walking out into our back yard & an alligator being right there!

Not sure of how often but they can't or won't remove them from property until they reach 5 feet.

They then move then to their wildlife reserve in cental FL.

I have the one living between Fronteirtown and Tom Sawyer island on video somewhere.

Got a chance to see the gator at CSR. He was caught and moved while we are here.

The pictures should be all I need to convince him of the fact that there ARE alligators in WDW.

I think he's of the mind, as many people are, that nothing bad ever happens at WDW. While I wish it was true, the logical part of me know's it's not.

I wish I could see the whole world through Disney glasses, the magic would never end!

If the gator is larger than 6 feet they are destroyed. They have the ability to find their way home. So they may say they have relocated since that sounds nicer.

Just before our last trip to Florida, a twelve year old boy died from swimming in a Florida lake and being infected with meningitis from an amoeba that got to his brain through his nasal passages. That is why there is no swimming in the lake between The Swan and Dolphin, and why it's a bad idea to push a sibling into a drainage ditch. The warm weather makes the water just right for all kinds of nasty things to live in it. Can't your son just shortsheet a bed or tap on the back of his brother's doom buggy on the Haunted Mansion?

Alligators are in a lot of places in Orlando. like NYC has rats, Orlando has alligators lol. my fiance told me about one time their flight was even delayed because there was an alligator on the runway. so tell him not to push him in! he might get eaten! and you don't want that to happen on your vacation!

Thanks to all who've responded to the 'alligator' question!

I truly don't think that my son would actually push his brother in the canel, if any of you have teenage boys, much of the time what they say is for 'shock' value and to see if they can get a rise out of Mom.

The boys are 18 and 16 and truly are good kids, it's just sometimes (esp. the 18 yr old), they are way too naive regarding the world.

They both are as excited about our WDW trip as me (well maybe not quite as excited, they'd probably be more excited if they were sure to meet girls there ).

I have seen small aligators in the lake at Coronado Springs on two different trips. I have also seen a very large alligator in the pond outside the railroad track between Space Mountain and the Main Street Railroad Station. After that I don't even dangle my feet in the water.

When we go, we are always looking to "spot gators"... On the ride from the airport we usually see one or two... We usually look around the waterways. Most times we find them sunning themselves...

We've seen them "sunning themselves" in Downtown Disney at the exit.. Also floating around in the swamp area between the boardwalk and back entrance to Epcot.
