Alligator dragged 2 year old into 7 seas lagoon

Were there witnesses to this, it just sounds so strange to me. I know there are alligators, but the story just sounds odd...the skeptical side of me says theres more to this story.

I'm the same way. I'm trying to comprehend how this happened with proper supervision. I've seen plenty a gator in my life, they don't move too quickly on the land.

Alligators on land do not have much stamina, but depending on the size, they are capable of short bursts up to 25 MPH.

Larger ones, more like 8-10 MPH.

It appears they move faster than a 2 year old. I really doubt, and I certainly won't automatically assume, that lack of supervision played a part. I'd much rather wait to hear all the facts.

I'm just making that assumption off the "there were no eye witnesses to the child being drug in the water by an alligator".

I would assume if you were watching your child, you would be an eye witness.

I raised my daughter by myself for the first 6 years of her life. I know how quickly you can lose sight of your child. But I also know that when you're in situations like theme parks and zoos, you pay extra close attention to your child.

It didn’t say there were no eye witnesses. It said that no eye witnesses "were available for comment Tuesday night."

Yeah, but if the father was fighting a gator it would be reasonable to assume noise and attract much attention.
Either way the truth will come out.

I've been up to my knees in that water while staying at the Polynesian Village. Never dreamed there could be gators. I know swimming is forbidden but I thought that was because the lagoon water is contaminated.

Us too, after dark while waiting for Wishes to start, many a times my kids have been ankle deep splashing around.

How said the gater had to come on land? Kid could have easily been splashing in the water, I know mine have before(and never will again)

That poor child, those poor parents, my heart just breaks for them, nothing is worse than loosing a child but one so young in such a terrifying manner must be excruciating

If there were no witnesses then we'd have no idea that an alligator did this.

I've found the opposite true. When I was working at a popular tourist attraction, parents often let their guard down and didn't supervise their kids well. In fact we literally called it "Disney syndrome". Parents would assume that because there were so many staff around the park, surely nothing bad would happen to their kids. I once had to get security because a mother parked her infant in a stroller in front of our stage while she left to get lunch with her other child, as if all of us on stage in character were capable of babysitting.

If this was a Disney-sanctioned movie event as I've been reading, I can see how the parents might let their guard down, but I have very little information on this incident.

This is what I was hinting at, in a bit backwards sarcastic way.

In the short 1 week I stayed at Disney, I saw parents leave their children at these movie nights like it was some kind of baby sitting service numerous times.

I've never understood it.

There was just a short press conference. The father and child were wading in the water. The gator attacked. Dad tried unsuccessfully to rescue his son. They have 2 other kids and are from Nebraska. They were staying at the GF. Police will keep searching until they find something. Plans to capture the gator as well. Disney fully cooperating.

Following this, I'll admit I was wrong. I'm just an ****** that always looks at things in a jaded way.

Never been to WDW, DL is my home park, but since it's FL I always associate it with gators, bugs and humidity. I definitely would be following all rules of staying clear of the water (I read there are signs stating do not enter the water). 9:30pm at night, with a toddler near a body of water on a beach with signs saying stay out of water...smh. Poor baby.
So tragic. Prayers to the family.
